Quite possible but don't let Addick Addict hear you saying that. : - )

Do remind me how much did we pay for Messrs Varney, McCleod, Gray etc etc and how much of a loss did we make on them?
  • 4 wrongs don't make a right!!
  • About £11m spent on fees and wages (if they had stayed throughout their contracts) spent with about £1.5m re-couped on fees for LV and AG.

No argument from me that they were much bigger wastes of money than Dickson.

Dickson was a, relatively, low cost risk but hasn't come off.

Partly that is down to bad luck such as his injury and Pardew not playing him more but also IMHO down to Dickson's lack of ability and unwillingness to learn (hence being sent back by Rovers) as well as his agent giving him a false impression of his worth (he's going to the Priestfield, not the Camp Nou).

Good luck to the guy I say.
  • What about Spring?..... that would suggest anyone wants him

Spring is a Parky signing and consequently there is a difference.

As there is with McKenzie who was such an important signing almost 6 months ago - so much so that he has yet to start a League match for us. But he probably has the right attitude and is happy to sit on the bench, bide his time and take the money.

Edit: McKenzie hasn't actually started a match for us in any competition.
  • u cd argue we only have one out and out defensive midfielder in Spring, although he is second to the other only player in that position being Semedo, whereas Dickson had a lot more in front of him

Shall we make it 8 wrongs and add Burton, Mooney, McKenzie and Akpo Sodje to the list 'cos I'm still not sure what they are currently bringing to the party.
  • Interesting reactions coming out of Gillingham and Dickson on being reunited.

Dickson has told the local paper it feels like ''coming home'' and has set himself two targets - 10 goals before the end of the season and a permanent contract in the summer.

Equally interesting is the Gills claim that Dickson was actually at the Priestfield on deadline day waiting to sign when the deal fell through (which I, for one, didn't know). They're not spelling out why it collapsed, but they are clearly again trying to imply that it was our fault and not theirs...

I thought we agreed a price at £50,000 and then at the last minute Gillingham said they wanted him for free. We said no to that. It seems to me Gillingham were banking on our board saying yes simply to get him off the wage bill. That tactic obviously backfired and we sent him on loan to Bristol as a back up measure.
  • 10 goals before the end of the season, a tad ambitious imho assuming he is not including the 4 he already has.

  • That's the version I've believed for the last six months. What I didn't know was that Dickson was physically present at the Priestfield while all this was going on.

Gills fans say that when they raised the 'free' notion, the club never believed they could get him for free, but they thought we would negotiate and hoped to get him for their original £35k offer, which it is claimed we had rejected back in July.

But who knows? I just thought that it was interesting that the Gills and Dicko were so confident they would swing it that the player was at the ground waiting for the photo call in his new shirt.

[cite]Posted By: Ketman[/cite]Whilst I loathe giving Gillingham anything, if he ends up scoring one goal for them that benefits Charlton then it will be a sound move.

PS Gillingham Messed us around big time over him in the Summer &Said they would offer a fee then said he wanted to play for them not us &they would not pay us anything for him.Think the stance we took with them over this was 100% correct.

Glad I'm not the only one who remembers both sides of this story and not just Scally's version.

Wish him luck and as Ketman says his goals for Gills might just benefit us.

Wasn't there also outstanding money owed for a loan that hadn't been paid? Possibly Josh Wright?
  • And "Gate Money" from a pre-season friendly ?
  • [cite]Posted By: Vinnie V.[/cite]Wasn't there also outstanding money owed for a loan that hadn't been paid? Possibly Josh Wright?
I do remember reading that they hadn't paid what they should have for Wright. Anyone know if that was sorted out?

Surely if we want 50k and they're prepared to pay 35k, you don't start the bidding by offering 0k?!
You'd have thought they'd offer 15-20k and go from there. By them offering nothing, we rightly decided they were taking the piss and told them where to go.

I reckon he'll net 8 between now and the end of the season.

Same amount the rest of our strikers combined will achieve.
  • I'm glad you're up in Hull - always bloody moaning.

As Chris has stated, this is surely the most likely source of events, amazing that with the figures involved that we have spent a few grand becomes such an issue, or was it that the Agent missed out!
As we spent a million and a half on agents fees last season! I guess nought for nought is still nought...... even if as an agent you do nought!

  • He said he felt he was coming home..........as his caravan was towed into the stadium car park.
  • On BBC SE, he said he was paid to be an entertainer, so surely he has succeeded?
  • kinveachyaddick 6 days ago quote# 43
does rather raise the issue of what is the point of Spring?

he must be about the 7th choice midfielder (behind Bailey, Semedo, Racon, JJ, Wagstaff and Sam at least)

We play 5 midfielders at a time, so one injury and a substitution and he's on!
  • Shame Dickos gone. I always liked him and he reminded me a little bit of killer. He obviously wasn't good enough otherwise he would have had more chances/starts. As far as wages are concerned, I remember hearing he was on ridiculously low money compared to others - in the region of £25k PA.

I won't forget his tearing apart WBAs defence during the cup replay. He was unlucky not to get a hattrick there.

    Good luck Chris
  • Every time I've seen Dickson he offers nothing.

Now the strikers we currently have might not be the best but I'd take each one of them over Dickson. If he does of Gillingham good luck to him, he was a gamble by Pardew, an inexpensive one which didn't pay off.

Agree with this. But what I found utterly bizarre was that while these conversations were going on, it seems Dicko was apparently sitting more or less next to the Gills (somewhat inept) negotiator with pen in his hand waiting to sign, while the shirt with his name on for the photo call had presumably already been mocked up (or being cheapskates, they probably got an old one from his last loan out of the dirty laundry...)

Gills were clearly extremely confident that they could pull a fast one - and equally clearly they came unstuck.

    7 to go ;-)
  • I don't want to start another pointless Dickson debate but after watching our strikers give another ineffective performance I have to say, despite the fact he has looked non league in his cafc games, why does he keep going elsewhere and scoring. Guaranteed he will score more than our strikers combined by May and may be our only striker to get double figures from open play.

Regardless, he was turd for us as well.

Strange how he seems to do well down in pikey land but some things happen like that in football. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt.
