I agree in that Parky was unlucky. I mean he took us meekly out of the Championship without any sort of a fight. He should have been fired then and would have been except that Muzza couldn't afford to. I just don't buy all this poor Parky guff. That poor run under Powell only happened cause the players already knew their time was up and they just gave up on it.
I think I had opted out by this stage, but what a nasty orrible place we were all in, indeed some saying only 2nd worst to the selhurst situation, let's hope its all up from here, and well done to the board for seeing the talent in the then untested Powell (as a Manager). I hope he continues to 'grow' and keeps us on the up for many years to come.

This.
However as Curb_it says, lets leave that one as the future is far brighter now than during those dark days.
I'm honestly really surprised at the absence of point scoring that has gone on in relation to some of the vilification that CP was subjected to this time last year. Also how many posters seem to have moved on since then.
We must have all adopted a very grown up attitude....or is it just that the search function is way too painful to go back and dig them out?
Worth remembering that the two managers who have attracted the most psotivity on here are Poyet and Howe.
Both in their first managerial roles.
There is sooo much scrutiny in football now yet the managerial basics remain so simple; can you get your ideas across to the players, can you get your players to play for you, have you a good tactical understanding, and have you and your staff an eye for emerging talent.
You don't have to do the job 20 years to get that right, as proven by the cast number of managers who are successful in their first managerial appointments ! Bullseye! AKFA.
Can I also mention that for both the two greatest Charlton managers in our modern history, Lennie and Curbs, it was their first managerial appointments.
I posted earlier on another thread that appointing managers has a great deal of luck about it. Managers with good track records can bomb just as easily as newbies
Although I am just an outside observer Chrissy seems to have a great deal to commend him.
1. He had a long career and through his own continuous improvement, that culminated in him playing at the highest level despite not playing for one of the top clubs. 2. He seems to have great inter-personal skills 3. He is currently first team coach at a major club who have the former England Manager and one of the most experienced managers in the game as boss 4. He is a total legend at our club and he really knows the history of our club and what pride we all have in what has been achieved together by fans, board, and team pulling together in the same direction
If true and with some luck, he could really be the one to set us on the right course once again.
I have just dug out my post from Jan 2011. I think AFKA and I were pretty much spot on. (We weren't the only ones saying it of course)
Jeeez, I've just looked back over the 'Powell ain't got a clue" thread.
Is there enough humble pie in the whole of London town to supply you all?
So have I. I remember it back at the time and feeling then it was too toxic to read let alone participate in.
Still being a fan is about emotions bad as well as good.
We have moved on. Chris made mistakes last season. Those who wanted him gone were expressing years of frustration, mediocrity and decline and his failure to light a sufficient fire under the arses of Parky's team was seen as continuation of the nightmare.
I am reminded of the old saying
"He who never made a mistake never made anything".
This is true for Chris Powell as well as his former detractors.
Strength comes from acknowledging the mistakes and turning those hard lessons into positive resolve and action.
Nobody, even the most positive of us, could have predicted the record-breaking season we are still having.
For those who wanted him gone, I am sure most will be just as happy to be proved wrong as those of us who wanted him to stay are ecstatic that he has been so successful.
Just looked at that olde thread... My lord we were depressed ... What a differrence a year makes .... It took a bit of cash, mainly funded by jenkinson, and a fricken stone cold , passionate legend who had been guided in the fires of failure to pull us by our heels back to positive territory... We could have been screwed for decades .... And now we really get to see what the board are gonna do ... You know they have got a few quid stashed away .... I cannot wait for the summer I reckon we are gonna get a couple of quality players in ....
I remember powells face in some of the post match interviews and he was holding on by a thread ... Utterly dejected ... For him to then have been given the trust of the board and to go and out and show his brand of football (very tight at the back) and get the wins and 'at times' (powells likes that one in his interviews) play some proper quality attacking play, still struggling to get over wiggins overhead flick to himself to cross in for Hollands ( I think) ...
I'm just rambling on, but man I am so chuffed for him and these years and now this success, well you can take your champ leagues and all the guff of the top 4 or whatever but I bet the feelings we've felt over the last week have topped it ... But who knows ....
Powell has returned this club to one to be proud of in a one season switch ... And I don't think there is another person out there that could have ....
@mascot88, if I understand you correctly, you've said what I have found myself thinking as I sit here reading this thread.
The sheer joy of this past weekend wouldn't be half as sweet if it weren't for what came before it. I always find myself returning to this point when posting on here, but this club and these supporters, are special, and the fact that the club is on a bounceback after the challenges of the past six years is yet another opportunity to recognize that.
As much I enjoyed the chance to see us in the Premiership, I've enjoyed this season far more, seeing our climb from afar and realizing that I cared far more about results in League One than anything that happens in the Premiership anymore. Made me realize that I've made the full leap from plastic to supporter!

Well ... I and I'm sure many others have fought back and blatantly cried several times over the last week ... And I'm not sure that man u fans winning the prem this year will get anywhere near that emotion ...
Always said Powell would be excellent and called for him before Parky was appointed full time....incedentally I remember banging on about what a wonderful player Solly was going to turn out to be too....nice to be proved right (occasionally).

There goes your chance of me asking Morro for a personalised "I love you B" shirt to hand over to you!
Thankfully he did.
No need to go on about parky etc now Large.

That is something I think we can all agree on.
Onwards.

You should know by now that myself and Incorruptible Addick are always right, we're just both too classy to ram it down people's throats.
That would be, well, insufferable i suppose :-)
[...hangs head in shame...]
i mean it done to death
i couldnt care no more we are heading in the right direction
Nice guy or not

Personally, I feel quite smug reading it though...not sure why
