  • WHATEVER happens after today, today feels like the greatest day to be Charlton for a long time.

    Disneyworld football. Brilliant.
  • Really pleased with SCP getting the job. So pleased in fact I'm now going to the Plymouth game.

I hope he gets to choose his backroom staff and that he gets somebody in who can help him become the manager he wants to be and that we want him to be.

  • [cite]Posted By: kevtherev[/cite]Am I the only one underwhelmed by this news, Great as CP was it dont make him are great manager. His wife has more experiance, but I will support the team and CP as I always have.

Probably not Kev but I would be underwhelmed if we had got any other realistic experienced target. At least the mood at the club is higher than it has been for an insufferably long time and who knows what the future will bring.

At least we'll be smiling in the battle to get out of this league now and the atmosphere and support may even return to the good days which in turn could help the team as a 12th man like it did against spurs in the first half where we matched one of the best sides in the country.

Great stuff.... a true legend and gentleman
I've been to one england game in 12 years in this country and this was to see HIS england debut at villa park , I cried then and I'm sure I'll be crying on his valley return

If any man deserves success this fella does

Who knows what the future holds but at this moment in time it just feels right
And I haven't said that for years

    Absolutely beautiful
  • My first chance to post following Sir Chris's appointment, I wouldn't comment until it was on the OS!

Delighted to see the return of a club legend, i actually feel more excited about this appointment than I did of the other potentials mentioned i.e. howe, johnson, etc. and it feels like just about every charlton fan is very happy with this choice, there is no divided opinion, we all seem to be united on this one.

A great man.....chrissy powell's red and white arrrrmmmmmyyyyy!!!!
  • I wonder if he can be loved more then he already is when we reach promotion?

  • Am delighted to have Chris back at the club - its going to create a real buzz back at the Valley and hopefully lift the players as we know it will certainly lift the fans.

Was not overly impressed with any of the other names being mentioned as manager. Reading Chris's comments on OS just shows what the club means to him and if he can pass on that enthusiasm and passion to the players then I can only see good times ahead

Just one note of caution - I hope the board give him time - promotion this season is not going to be easy with Brighton and Southampton already pushing on and strong sides such as Sheff Wed and Huddersfield also in the mix.
  • Absolutely delighted that Chris is back. Haven't seen too many comments from Messrs Slater, Jimenez or Varney though. They seem to be keeping a very low profile.
  • Can only be a good thing that the new board are keeping quiet, we all feared with regard to S & J being 'Hollywood'.
To date they seem to have majority backing on decisions made.
  • IMO very sensible for the Board members to keep a low profile.

By appointing Chris Powell, they've created the buzz needed to lift the club.
    No need to dilute that.
  • Hopeful and pleased with the choice.

    An opinion you have.

Chris may lack certain criteria but not HEART, this team has been crying out for some HEART, some belief, some guidance, the players and staff need galvenising (cant spell) pulling together, would you kevtherev not want to follow his example??
  • It is great to have him back at Charlton. He will get a fantastic reception at the Valley :-)
  • Great interview to read, must be even better to hear. He is spot on about the relationship between the players and the fans. They need to feel pride wearing the shirt and we need to feel proud supporting them. That has been lost the last few seasons but I feel it will soon be on the way back. Welcome home Chris.

You can hear it quite easily. Give me a call and I'll put the phone up against the speakers.
  • Might do that tomorrow jimmy, thanks.

Once again just got in from work and now seen the news (on here) that its official!!!!
What a fantastic end to the working week. I have nothing but admiration for the board, but more especially Mr Chris Powell. He epitomises all thats good in a manager, he cares about prodcucing a successful team, he has a winning attitude, he cares about supporters but, more importantly, he cares about supporters feelings. He will feel every loss as a supporter feels it, he will enjoy the wins as supporters do and he will, I'm sure instill this attitude in the players -
players that may now realise how important this club is to those that turn up and pay good money to watch them (afterall Chrissy as a player always gave 100%) week in week out.
I also predict that if he gets a 'sniff' of any of his squad just being here for the 'dosh' and not much else, they could find themselves out of here pretty sharpish!!
He will be learning as each week unfolds, but one thing I'm sure of - his teams will go out there with passion and pride to wear he CAFC shirt week in week out.
Welcome to the new gaffer..............welcome home CHRIS POWELL - I salute you!!!
  • this feels sooooo right !!!!
  • That interview on Player is definitely something that brings a tear to the eye. I can only agree with everyone who says that it feels like finally we are putting a line under the last few years and starting a new journey. I liked Parky as a person but this is such a lift for everyone at the club.

Hopefully we'll go up twice under Chrissy and be a Premier League team under him at some point, but do you know what, whatever happens I'm just looking forward to the journey. For the last few years that's not something I've been able to say. So excited for Powelly as a person, us as a club, and selfishly just for me and my family as supporters. Time to smile again.

CHRISSY POWELLS' RED AND WHITE ARMY!!
  • Just heard this. Difficult not to get swept up in the fervour of enthusiasm, but dreading the bubble bursting around Easter if it doesn't work out and the memories of Powell as a player are ruined.

    Will be interesting whatever happens.

Just reading some of the comments on here has brought a tear to my eye. Anybody get the feeling that this is probably first time in many years that the fans are no longer divded over the way the club is be managed. This feels so right. Well done to the board.
  • According to gary johnson on soccer am we are going the european route i.e. Chris will be first team coach and 'others'

Well, perhaps Johnson was one of those actually interviewed for the job?

And that was one of the points discussed at the time?
