In the write up of the Powell interview on the OS Michael Slater apparently says 40 people applied. But when i listened to it earlier i'm sure he just said they had a list of 40. They didn't all actually apply though did they?

[cite aria-level=0 aria-posinset=0 aria-setsize=0]Posted By: cafcnorth7[/cite]look's like Robbie gonna have to give back his tunnel celebration back to the rightful owner :D:D:
Powelly said he'd leave it to Robbie
Talking of which.....
Can anyone remember how & when the 1st one came about ?
"It was a special moment singing the national anthem before the Spain game at Villa Park. There is a picture where I am running and nutmeg Guardiola. I am sure he tells Messi and everyone in training at Barcelona that he got nutmegged by Chris Powell. Definitely." - SCP
Cracking article, but boy Chris is ageing well. We wont need to pay him - his pension fund must be massive
''Aged 31 days and 174 years, the left-back made his international debut in Eriksson's first game against Spain in 2001 and will never forget the moment he nutmegged Pep Guardiola.''
Just had to dig up the thread that started this turnaround - from Shrew's post on towards the bottom of page 2. I was one of the first to see the rumour - exciting enough at the time, even more so now!!

makes very interesting reading. Very happy with what I posted at the time.
I skimmed through it. It was good. But I reckon there are a few horrors to be read from this time last year. I remember someone slating me as I said i didnt want to go to a game as I would get upset at the abuse Powell would get if we lost again.
Then the whole Bromley Addicks report was another grim read.
i couldnt believe that i never posted on it at the time , but those that were trying to say it is not his team they cant do anything until the summer
Ketman and Smudge trying to let people in on the mass exodus that was going to happen were getting shot down
still people slating him and going on about relegation
Unreal
just read that thread mate, shocking.. been closed so cant bump it back up the list as is a great read, few people on here and even an admin tut tut saying he is poor and should be given the boot ;-)

What a difference a season makes. Thank God.
I remember you at the end of last season standing up for Chris on here CI, and I loved you for it....you have always been aware that Chris is a decent human being, and deserved a chance....and you have been proved right.
Well someone had to! All we can be grateful for is that the Board gave him the time. A poster on her whispered to me that he was told he was going to get the boot - you know who you are.
Just read the above mentioned thread. Horrible.
I hope old @WSS on his day down at the training ground slips over at Powell's feet and tells him he was wrong to be a doubter.
I too remember a few of us getting some pretty odious comments. I didn't give a hoot, I'd have been much more worried if the type of people who seemed to take a peverse delight in having a go had been keen to support us! Chrissy's answered all his critics in the only way that really matters and now we are all happy. I'll take that any day and long may it continue.

I don't think I was nasty in my comments, I didn't call for his head and I don't think I said anywhere that he was a bad manager (I'm not going to read through all of the thread) but I do stand by what I said. That period was the worst we have ever been in my lifetime, we picked up one point in seven games which is worse than anything Parky mustered up. I also still believe that Parkinson was treated unfairly and should've stayed to the end of the season considering what he achieved with what he had.
I'm as pleased as anyone that Powell was backed by the board and given the time and funds to turn the club around but at that particular time it was awful beyond anyone's imagination, to deny it would be foolish.
I met Chris at the training ground after we had lost four on the trot last year and it was obvious he had to rebuild with the atmosphere around Sparrows Lane and he's done it. Kudos to him.

Pep "Ola"
Chris "Hi Pep, it's Chris Powell, wondered if you've got any players I could borrow"
Pep "Sorry, who is this?"
Chris "It's me, Chris Powell, I nutmegged you on my England debut"
Pep puts phone down.
Chris "Pep, Pep? you still there? So no chance of a pre-season friendly then?

Its in the Sun, it must be true
What a job he has done, and done it with style and humility too.
And who edited the title of the thread - not even got to page 25 yet...
I signed it but don't remember receiving any feedback. It might even still be going.
*formatting's ballsed up*
Never going to happen at "Charlton who?"
Nailed on after he has become the England manager and won the bluddy World Cup.
