Like everyone else, I'm so pleased with this and just want it confirmed so that I can sleep sound. Likeable, talented and a Charlton legend. Can't think of anyone else better for the post.
As for the question about who does the tunnel jump though, it's got to be Robbie every time. The manager needs to remain (a bit) aloof - he certainly can't be seen to be pinching someone else's glory moment. That said, I do think CP always did it with more gusto than Robbie. On that subject I wonder how many different celebrations CP has done. We all know about the tunnel jump, but I used to watch him regularly when he played for Southend and he used to do a Roger Milla style corner flag dance to the tune of "Wiggle It" which was in the charts at the time. I wonder if he's got other celebrations that he was associated with at other clubs. Anyone know?
Bloody hell!, I left for work a 2.30 this afternoon and knew nothing about this.....just got in at 00.30 logged on to here and seen this, how fanbloodytastic!!! I am just purely elated, this is without doubt the best feeling I've had about CAFC since the play-offs and of course returning back to the Valley. As I've said on the Why Charlton thread things arnt going to well for me at the moment, but if at all possible I'm going to try and get a ticket for the game against Plymouth so I can be there!!!
Well done MS, TJ, RM and PV..........what a brave decision and one I believe will bear fruit....I'm just gobsmacked, happy and 'kin over the moon. Onwards and upwards addicks...onwards and upwards!!!
Chrisy Powells Red and White army are up and marching....no plastics please!!!
[cite]Posted By: Valiantphil[/cite]I am excited by the news, and it's a while since i've said that about Charlton.
Has my 100% support from day one !
And that, folks, is the point! Along with the qualities of the man himself. For once, I actually feel confident and I'm prepared to give him plenty of time.
I will be tuning in to listen to every word he says...
Coem on guys this could be the one... this could be the building from the ground up we are so famous for ... and Every now and then, just every now and then a jump out the tunnel from the big man himself...

I told my girl today and she just went.... wwwwwwwwwwwwwwooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhh!!!!!
It's all been said. I echo most of the sentiments on here and am so pleased with this. This really is the one move which will bring back that Charlton identity which has been lacking for me for some time. Just sad it'll be some time before I can see a Chrissy Powell team play.
btw.... I think that Millwall game in '88 was one of my rare outings up from the south coast to watch us play (was 11 and a 'wall supporter took me up there)
Just want to note my admiration and praise for the new owners in taking such a brave decision in the appointment of Chris Powell. I had a feeling that this takeover was more of a "re-posession".
The return of Kavanagh and Varney was a good omen as was the appointment of Sir Keith into the caretaker role.
I had a feeling in my waters about Lord Curbs who I still hope will play an advisory role to complete the "dream team".
Charlton Athletic has returned to its roots after too many years in the wilderness and going to the Valley will be pleasure again whatever the results on the pitch.
Congratulations to Chris Powell and lets just be realistic with our expectations and give him lots of time to ease himself into the job. We will get there in the end if we stick to our principles and don't join the treasure hunters club where money is all that matters.
We have our club back again and that is down to the new owners so thank you to them.
Confirmed on BBC Southeast and in Daily Mail this morning, I have just driven all the way to work with a big silly grin on my face. Well done to the new owners who seem to be understanding what Charlton Athletic are all about. How big will the attendance be for the next home game ?
Gotta say its been worth waiting for, nothing can dampen my spirits today, not even this rubbish weather or rubbish job I'm in !!!
Sir Chris you have time on your side, dont pressure yourself into wanting immediate success or think that we expect it, we are loyal and educated fans who know the team isnt quite good enough at the moment, so take your time and build for next season if need be - we just wanna see the ball played around rather than lumped up the pitch to noone. Wishing you all the very best - I'm guessing every single Charlton fan is 100% behind you, like me - good luck Legend. Chrissy Powells red and white army.....
It happens to be my birthday today and this is probably the best present i could have hoped for. I was excited last night when i heard this and i still haven't calmed down..TOP BANANA
Its a massive punt IMO but no doubt myself and every other Charlton fan will get behind him more than any other Charlton manager for the last 10 years.
Who knows, The Valley might finally become the fortress it should be in this pony league and maybe we can start getting 20k+ like Southampton.
According to SSN Chris will be only the 2nd black manager in English (top-tier) football. We've certainly come a long way (thankfully) from the 70s when I can remember Phil Walker (?) scoring at Leicester and being roundly booooed & jeered. Thank god for that.
I guess the 1st was Keith Alexander, but I'm sure I remember Viv Anderson having a spell in charge somewhere.

Jean Tigana at Fulham. Chris Kamara at Bradford. John Barnes at Tranmere. The total number of black managers is ridiculously low in comparison to the number of successful black players, but certainly more than 2.

Chris Hughton.........summed up, the journalist could only think of 2 whilst writing and couldn't be arsed to research it. It could also be said that Powelly is also a Green manager. ;-)
When Keegan was unveiled as manager at Newcastle , another returning legend thousands of people flocked to SJP. I know it is different as they are based in city centre but it would be nice if there was some fan presence at the Valley today to welcome him home
