  • Anyone know what time they're likely to be formally announcing Sir Chris' appointment? My internet usage at work this week has been ridiculous - can't afford yet another day of checking for developments every 5 minutes!
  • I had doubts over new owners- but this appointment will dispel all these. This is an appointment for the long term and the now the 'if we do not get promoted we go into administration' fear has been lifted, we can sensibly put into place a three and five year plan to take the club forward.
Can't wait to see him come out on the pitch for his first game.
  • [cite]Posted By: Red_Pete[/cite]According to SSN Chris will be only the 2nd black manager in English (top-tier) football. We've certainly come a long way (thankfully) from the 70s when I can remember Phil Walker (?) scoring at Leicester and being roundly booooed & jeered. Thank god for that.

I guess the 1st was Keith Alexander, but I'm sure I remember Viv Anderson having a spell in charge somewhere.

    Paul Ince?

  • Just got back from being away this week, to this news, Please, Please let this happen.

I sent a text LilSis as soon as I heard, hoping that it was already a done deal, but obviously like the rest of us I'm still waiting for official news.

As much as I understand the sentiment over not wanting Chris to be subject to the level of impatient drivel or the spouting of personal abuse that has infected a section of our support when things go wrong.

I still see this as a no brainer.

I echo the posts that have stated the fact that Sir Chris would inject a level of 'feel good' like no other appointment, (even the return of Curbs), but I do not see this as a risk because in all honesty, what the F***K have we got to lose right now? We are languishing in the lower end of the play off zone of the third division for christ sake!!

The very fact that Leicester have been desperate to keep hold of Chris and have rejected an approach from Newcastle for his services is surely testemant to his abilities and if we were prepared to pin our hopes on a relatively novice manager with his heart elsewhere, then why shouldn't we pin our hopes on a novice manager with his heart firmly placed here?
  • What time will they announce Chris Powell as our Manager?.
  • Ruud Guilt
  • Has everyone forgotten about Paul Ince?

  • Can't actually wait. Going to Lakeside today with the missus...going to annoy her by constantly checking the OS on my phone.
  • Rude Guilt? Well it depends on how broad minded you are.
  • keith alexander

    oh and paul ince
  • john barnes aswell!!!
  • There are a good few concerns with CP taking over.
    * Its his first role at this level---but all Managers(even in the real World) have to start somewhere.
*Who will be the number two
*What does it tell us re the new owners? At least the liars rubbish can be thrown out.
*Do we have the funds and will CP have the knowledge in thetransfer lottery? time will tell.

One thing that isnt a concern either positive or negative is his skin pigmentation, highlighting he is the 2nd-- 22 or 202nd black manager means what ?

What ever happens nothing can take away the feeling of pride when i saw a CAFC player in an England shirt---something i never thought i would see.
In the same frame we should never ever forget the Evening Gooners headline "Chris who?"----------every dog has his day and one day we will stufff those words down their sports editors gob.

just asked and they say deal is OFF. Powell said he had to do the jump but Robbie has it in his contract that he does it. Seems petty to me but there you go.
  • [cite]Posted By: DickTydeman[/cite]This is a disaster. Do the owners think we are fools? Probably yes, and I suspect the majority of the fans will love this appointment. But it is foolish.

Welcome to the site Mark. Interesting first post which will I'm sure instigate some full and frank debate.

I think starting the bad decision thread was a bad decision. All proper Charlton know this is going to be great
  • i just want it signed sealed and delivered we have been through enough. i really hope people realise this and get on with it now
  • [cite]Posted By: Swisdom[/cite]my old man had £5 on 4-1 and chrissy for last goal!
    Cha ching

Haha! I won 80 quid from a 5er thanks to Chrissy getting the fourth. And I didn't even have him down as last goalscorer. Your dad must've raked it in!!

PS. Really like Chrissy, really worried about having him as manager. You lot would eventually destroy his soul.

No chance, went down the Valley this morning. All the big wigs lying around sniffing coke off the stomachs of Filipino dancers while arguing about what to do with the all the old pictures and frames they have taken down from the Board Room.

Managed to get a nice head and shoulder shot of the last Fans' Director for a Ton. Well happy.

Some time next week they said, if they can be bothered.
  • i knew about the coke and dancers cos i supplied them but i did it on the proviso that powell was in charge by midday.

If this dont happen i will take it that i am knocked and i will send the boys round.

They even gave me the 2 Busts of some old managers of ours, from outside a board room or something i didnt know who they were so i melted them down

For a ton, I would have snapped you with a pair of dancers ! ...... and you could have had a nice 'artistic portrait' with a variety of cardigans!
  • He's arrived at the Valley according to a tweet.
