[cite]Posted By: paulsturgess[/cite]When the bloody hell are the official website gonna announce it?! its been on bbc london news ffs
Because its not finalised yet.
Matt Wright said yesterday the current policy is to only announce events on the OS once paperwork is completed. At the moment it isn't.
Hypothetically if someone has been offered a job, and that person has verbally accepted the job, then that's pretty much it. But there is still the issue of agreeing compensation with that other person's current employers, a contract to be drawn up, that person's lawyer not finding something they don't think is right in the contract, and that person to actually sign a contract before something is properly concluded.
I can't see any of those issues being a problem personally, but it won't be confirmed on the OS until those things are.
The Valley is going to be a fortress next home match with Powelly at the helm, one of the nicest men to wear the Charlton shirt. Just pray to God no-one boos him, as I'm sure if it all goes tits up which I'm sure it won't, he'd do the decent thing.. he loves the club still at heart I'm sure, and we love him more!
Brilliant appointment if/when it goes through. Not worried about the inexperience - half the teams promoted from league 1 in the last 5 years have been in their first jobs.
[cite]Posted By: thenewbie[/cite]Very good points AFKA but can't they make an exception this once? Pleeeaassssee?
No they can't, because until those things have been completed there is nothing to announce except he's been offered the job and has verbally accepted, which we know.
Chris Powell isn't our manager yet. As soon as he is, it'll be on the OS.
Fair enough! And in all fairness I think that's the best approach for them to take- after all, it's not official til its on the O/S and its not on the O/S until its official!
He's not inexperienced - has at least as much if not more that Howe, Poyet, Curbs and many more when they started out. He's 41 with a long and fab career behind him. A great player, highly regarded by all. Former Chairman of the PFA so popular with players which should help in the transfer market. Good experience as a coach and, looking at Leicester Forums, they already regard him as a legend.
Its a great decision and we need to support him fully - even if we don't get out of League 1 this season!!!
It's great to see all of the positivity on here and a feelgood factor starting to appear around the club again - a lot of people, including myself, are feeling quite emotional tonight.
To all those pointing out that he is inexperienced etc. - I understand your concerns, but what we need to do is give the guy a chance. There is no reason to expect him to do better or worse than any of the other names linked with us...but if he is to succeed, he needs our support. Even if he doesn't get us promoted this season (which is a big ask IMO) I am confident that with him at the helm we can start to regain the love and respect for our club that has been damaged so much in recent years....the future is bright.
Curbs had no experience as a manager before us and left us a hero, why not give Powell the same opportunity. Personally I think he loves the club enough to do the right thing and walk if he isn't up to it. However I think he IS up to it, not only has he played football as previously stated at every level but has many contacts and advisories in the game. He is also a very clever man, I have had a few conversations with him over the years and he comes across as intelligent too. He also lead the country into it's 'kick it out' campaign which was widely successful and that speaks volumes for his determination and his ability to stand up and be noticed.

And that most probably would be tomorrow now.
Playing devils advocate, didnt they announce Ecclestone's loan before the paperwork was completed?
I've been busy all day as we're leaving early tomorrow for Hillsborough via Harrogate & can't believe I've missed all the excitement ! What a fantastic day in the history of our Club , to paraphrase Keithy P when he spoke about the takeover.I have a great pic of Lord Powell of Charlton when he was our guest in Bexley a few years ago. Great man indeed.
So it would appear that our new owners have been true to their word. With the undoubted support of Richard Murray and Peter Varney, " the Charlton way" has seemingly struck a vital chord with them. I believe "we" owe them a huge apology for the doubts that were expressed so fervently on here only a week or so ago. They should know that they have our respect. To all concerned, we salute you.
Wonder what the gate will be for the Plymouth match next weekend ?
I have a signed chris powell shirt in a frame in which will be hung in my hallway by 3pm. Welcome home Chris let's hope our players play with the pride and passion in which you did. Can't wait for the moment you are introduced to your followers at the first home match it will only then will both Chris and the players how much he is respected by the fans

I know #cafc were getting fed up with experienced bosses, whose CV's were hardly spotless, demanding huge sums of money.
I hope that is indicative of business acumen and a determination not to be taken for a ride, rather than indicative of the fact that we may not have enough wedge as we thought. Though obviously clearing out the entire managerial team, compensating LCFC and paying Eccleston's wages isn't a drop in the ocean.

There is of course a difference between having money and spending it. For all we know the prospective managers DO know how much is behind the owners and wanted to try for as much as they could, because they could. Or it could all be bollocks of course....
First time in a while that I've thought about my five-year season ticket with some positivity - at times over the last few months, it certainly hasn't felt like my wisest investment!
It says a lot that my best memory of the last few seasons was that goal in his last game for us.
But my heart says one thing, my head another - just really hope it doesn't all end in tears.
And hopefully he will also have free reign to choose his own backroom team, and not have any assistance (or assistants) foisted upon him.
I'm SOOO chuffed at this, as soon as i've written this i'm off to bed to have a lefty celebration.
My initial choice would have been someone with experience but this actually tops Poyet or Howe for me. I didn't want either of them tbh (as i said in the thread i started). If we're gonna go down the route of inexperience, then why not with one of our own? I really hope this works out, not only for us but for him too. He deserves to be a success and i'm sure he will be. If i dare be negative and this all goes wrong, i just hope our fans don't turn on him and still keep him in the lagends catagory of the club. One thing we can guarentee with Chris is that he'll be giving his all every game. Now i just want to see us appoint an experienced assistant to help him out.
Right, now where did i put those tissues?........................................

I'M WITH YOU CHRIS!

Robbie mostly, Chrissy on very special occasions, i.e. promotion, beating palace and his birthday!!
I don't think so.
