  • I think it's Eleven or Twelve games since our last defeat. We got another three points, we moved to joint second in the table closing the gap to Leeds to 3 points, We played poorly & won. Those are the Facts.

Reading some of the comments on here is quite deflating, think everyone would be much happier if we were near the bottom fighting relegation. Seems lately no-one has got anything positive to say about the team which is a shame. You can all go back to moaning now.
  • Mooney can't jump Large,is this the same mooney that outjumped the brissie rovers keeper for our 3rd goal,or was i imagining it.
  • I've got to agree with Ketman. I thought we did really well last night to secure 3 points from a game that we could so easily have lost. The expectations of our crowd and of most of the people on here are just SO inflated and unrealistic. I really enjoyed the match and I will happily praise ALL of our players for winning the game. I can't believe the angst and hair-pulling when we are talking about players who have won 54 points so far this season and who are totally involved in a 3 way fight for 2 promotion places. Can't anybody just enjoy the game any more? We are fast becoming a bunch of moaning minnies and it really upsets me.

lol i agree with both of you! i didnt really point out too many negatives in my one, we could on another day have battered them! but we didn't and still got the 3 points thats all that matters.........i dont think the leeds fans were complaining about their lucky wins this season
  • [cite]Posted By: WSS[/cite]I'm actually dreading it if we go up next year. People will be expecting play-offs at least.
That's true, which is a shame. If we go up, mid table would be a good season, anything more a huge bonus. Going to take time to build up the club and team to compete any higher than that.

Does seem the way it is for a few too many fans. We're over halfway into the season, lost 2 league games all season and are 3 points off 1st place. It's going to plan and in fact we're doing better than most expected.

Scoham has called it dead right.
  • no he hasn't - we're doing much better than everyone expected.

PS for all the complaints about strikers, only Norwich have scored more than us.

Yeah fair point, but there are always a few nutters that think we'll win the league only losing a couple of games ;-)

We could do with another striker, even if it's just another option, but at least we have a good spread of goals in the team. Bailey, Shelvey and Wagstaff are goalscoring midfielders, Sam will get the odd one, as will the defenders. One I'm disappointed in is Racon, although he's never going to score many, I had hoped he'd get a few over the seasons.

Is interesting the way we've basically swapped Dickson for McLeod, is Dickson now happy to come off from the bench, fight for his place and be patient for his chance? He didn't play for long, but I don't see an improved player there, but if he's improved his attitude he's probably worth keeping for now. More composed in front of goal than McLeod and generally a more confident player.

Dickson is a decent finisher, I suppose.

It's the rest of his team game that seems to be missing.
  • Last night there was no one and i mean no one except Waggy who deserved more than a 6, we were not at the races at all we looked nervy and tense,

    daily continually fouled their CF

Llera was being targeted all night as the weak link and showed why his postional sense is poor his judgment at times is even worse the foul for the penalty was ridiculous and anyone who has even played school footie must no that you never let a player come across you like that and if it does happen you dont dive in.

Basey is no full back and yes he got a great cross in for the goal a real pearler but imo he is too big for a full back and no way near quick enough

jonjo tried far to hard to be the player to kick it on but last night as i said to Unc it was not happening for him and IMO he deservedly come off that is not slating him just that he is a big enough boy to know it was not working for him.

Bailey was way off the pace big style no tackles till 72 mins and the diving was stupid.

    deon had a poor game

    sam was very poor imo

richardson looked ok but not sharp

robbie i love i really am glad we have him in the sticks but i gewt the feeling that he has confidence issues when being called on to make the decision to come or go and that needs sorting.

so 8 players off their game with semedo and mooney doing ok but not much else and we win was not a classic but hartlepool were stifling the game we couldnt get fluid fast movement when we do we look good when we dont we can gtrind it out i am a happy fan right now

    Mr Positive! :o)
  • Streaker wasn't just funny...he was hilarious. Once every 30 years is acceptable for me (he's the first one I've seen).

Really hard to break down a team that doesn't even want to cross the halfway line (don't blame them at all by the way...it's up to them how they play) and although it looked laboured at times, there was still some good passing. There were also two top quality crosses (one from Sam that Shelvey nutted over and Basey's for the Mooney goal) and the finish from Wagstaff was brilliant. I like him as a sub and in cameo form (and on the right) he's developing nicely. He'll get his chance to play a game on the right at some point and he'll need to show he can do it from the start but what a good goals to game ratio he has at the moment eh?! Llera's Llera...mixture of terrible defensive headers/sliced clearances and brilliant last ditch clearances from inside his own box. Yes he causes concern...but what a heart! An appalling sliced clearance with his stronger foot when he should have headed....but held his hands up and cracked on. Gave the penalty away but didn't hide. We have better players but none better in terms of attitude....and when you're skint, attitude counts for a great deal! Dickson is trying his best. Like Llera, he isn't the best (although he possibly thinks he's up there!) and as long as he continues to do his best, he'll make a good contribution.

I hope and believe the Orient match will be a bit more open and despite their position, I can't see them coming just to defend like Hartlepool.
  • Damn, I seem to have missed the match that people keep going on about on here.

Me, I went to a third division match between two third division teams. One team was clearly better than the other and the better had more of the game and the better chances, etc and - funnilly enough - that better team won 2-1.

Wasn 't the best "entertainment" though and that better team would never give the 70's Brazil side much of a run out mind you, so let's pick holes in those third division players and make ourselves feel better.

    Idiots!

Haha top response to all those moaners!
  • We won another of those apparently 'vital, must win' games and we're still in with a real chance of promotion. Like everyone else, I'd feel more comfortable if we had an in form striker, I'd like to see a convincing win, I'd like to see more entertaining football, but most of all, I'd like to hear the fans helping the team on. We want the players to pull out all the stops, so reckon we should expect to do the same.
  • Great reading all of the above and as poster 139 I can hardly believe the seemingly endless different ways people see a game of football. As for my view. We were poor overall and although three points is three points that cannot hide the fact that had we been playing one of our serious promotion rivals the performance would not have been good enough. That said. We weren`t playing a good team so we got three points off the back of playing badly. Not all doom and gloom like some are hinting. Only two losses, equal second and three points behind leaders is far better than anyone expected. On track and I think that although automatic promotion is far from certain I would be astounded if we do not make the playoffs. Would have taken that before the season started and I suspect most of us would have too.
  • Bottom line is that the team won the two last games while not playing particularly well and with the extra pressure of knowing dropping more points would seriously dent our automatic promotion hopes. In both games they recovered from setbacks and showed the fighting 'never say die attitude' that has been evident in so many of our games this season (how different to recent seasons). It is this more than pure individual skill that will see us through at the end of the day.

Forget the navel gazing and get behind each and every player with a Charlton shirt on his back!
  • We won with two key players missing (Sodje & Youga) and two players just coming back to fitness (Richardson & Mooney).

We're not going to play well every week.

The points tallies of Leeds & Norwich are bringing additional pressure.

We've averaged over 2 points a game and are bankers for at least playoffs - more than most expected.

Therefore, I am happy with Parky and the team and anticipate 6 points from the next 2 games to set us up for 3 tricky away games after that.

Cheers, MoGGY for digging out these links - and sometimes I actually read them .....!

Well I did read this one. Anyone else see what the Pools manager said about Lloyd Sam?
" ..........Steve Haslam as well. It's his first game in two-and-a-half months and he's marking the quickest man in the division (Lloyd Sam) who could probably run in the Olympics, the pace he's got!"

    Made me smile!

    ;o)
  • Think people need to realise the difference between moaning and observational opinions. If you think someone has had a good/bad game, then this thread is the place to talk about it. If your comments are structured and arent just in bad taste then i dont see a problem. After all they are just views.

Cant stand all this ''oh we won, stop moaning'' crap. Its post game and as MOG stated on another thread, support the team for 90 minutes, after the game talk about the players performance in greater detail.

Thats my opinion on the matter!

Accept what you say totally VG but some people do take the disecting a bit too far. We all have our favourites and those we are less keen on but it really is hard to critcise the current squad for effort and commitment. Things like analysing how many times Nicky Bailey rolls over when he is tackled. I mean.........

Yeah agree Chazz completely, sometimes people do go over the top. I just hope peoples opinions arent going to get shouted down, simply because they are negative against a player. I was negative against Sam after the Wycombe game and myself and others had a very mature debate with Oggy and co. Perhaps there is a very fine line in peoples perceptions of constructive criticism and moaning.
  • The Bailey thing is just something more of us are noticing. I never worry he has a serious injury now and every time he gets back up and plays like it never happened. I don't know if he's doing on purpose or not, and if he does why but it is something he's done several times now. Not that it really matters.
  • Just seen in the Statbank thread, Charlton had 15 shots in the game, to Hartlepools 3, one of which was a penalty.
  • That's probably the worse we've played all season apart from Col U, but a couple of great goals got us through. That's the difference between the top and bottom though. We can score a goal out of nothing and 9 times outta 10 we take our chances. Hartlepool were very weak I thought.

Dailly and Llera looked really uncomfortable all game, Semedo and Ginger bollocks didnt get hold of the midfield until the last 20mins and we lacked a bit of width on the left. Feck knows who was supposed to be playing there?

Also, Jonjo's constant moaning at other players got on my wick a little bit, especially as he was equally as bad. Unlucky when he hit the post though...
  • Without checking I think thats 11 unbeaten, 7 Wins & 4 Draws ?
    25 points from 33.
    And yet people still moaning............

We didn't play a bottom half side.

Even after a really poor run of results, something like only 2 wins in their last 8 - and despite losing to us on Tuesday,
Hartlepool are still a top half side (just).

They even dicked Millwall 3-0 last month.
Which was a darn site more impressive than we managed.
