I think it's time to accept that Dickson, very likely wont play for us again. Parky is quoted as saying that he hopes that he plays well for Rovers, so they want to buy him. It's certainly a good deal for them, getting a million pounds for Lambert , and spending probably a third of that on his replacement. Perhaps we should get a sell on clause written into the deal. I must admit I'm sorry to see him leave without getting a decent run in the team like Varney or Gray. I still think he will do well . Strange that at Rovers and Gillingham, he goes straight into the team. No ten or fifteen minutes at the end of a game trying maybe too hard to impress. Why would he want to come back to us when he's not considered good enough to even get on our bench. Good luck to the kid.

a third ?? He's out of contract in June. I expect us to get something around 75k/100k and a sell-on clause.
[cite]Posted By: Rothko[/cite]I'm not prepared to lose one of the midfield 5 to accommodate Dickson
Don't think you'll find one person who is saying we should change the formation but at some stage, maybe sooner rather than later, we'll need a plan B.
Players will get injured and suspended and, especially at home, teams will put ten men behind the ball and defend deep so we will need to look at other formations.
We've got McLeod who's looked fairly sharp when coming on a sub but McKenzie is a bit of unknown and Tuna is young.
DIckson would give us a bit of the 'x' factor that will nick you last minute winners and equalisers...
Someone should have told Lennie at his book signing that it's all a flash in the pan with Dicko. He has a bad attitude, cannot or will not pass, and he is not a team player. Anything to sabatage the deal!
I have this nagging thought at the back of my mind that he will come back and haunt us by signing for Rovers and getting the goals that pip us to automatic promotion.
Not a fan of Dickson, but just watched that video of the brentford game .... wow! But countering that he has not done that for us, hoping that parkies strategy is to get him firing and understand team play in the changing room and we can absorb that scoring talent, with wider skills
So how come The Jills and Scally insisted they did come back in for Dicko and we said they didn't. Well we all knew they were lying. See below.
BTW I reckon their proposed deal for Fry was ;- Can we have him on a permanent loan and can you pay all his wages? :-)
Gillingham unable to add to squad
Stimson took his side back into League One with promotion last season
Gillingham have revealed they cannot afford to bring in any more players until next January at the earliest.
The Gills have been forced to end their interest in loaning West Ham defender Matt Fry due to a lack of funds.
Boss Mark Stimson says he has been told there is no money left in the playing budget and he cannot see that changing.
"I haven't got the money at the moment, and we haven't got any players to go out on loan because the squad isn't the biggest," Stimson told BBC Radio Kent.
"With the couple of injuries we've got, we can't allow anybody else to go out on loan who's really going to make that much difference to the money situation.
"The boy from West Ham [Fry] - we had to try and do a deal but at the moment we can't bring any players in so unfortunately he's staying there."

Interesting, so far as this thread is concerned part of Parky's recent interview about our feud with the Gills and Scally in particular:
“But equally we have a player who is constantly throughout the summer being spoken to by Gillingham through his agent about going there and affecting his mindset around the building.
“It has made him disgruntled because he knew he could go to Gillingham and they promised him he could play.
“We’ve had that problem and it has caused us problems but Chris Dickson is a good lad.
“He is a decent boy but I just feel for us to be called unprofessional is something I imagine most supporters would be reading and just having a chuckle to themselves because I think it is quite clear where the unprofessionalism has taken place.
Now, that would tend contradict the previous assertion from some that Dicko is trouble. The issue seems to lie with the fact that Dicko was "sounded out" in the Summer by Gillingham through his agent and promised a starting place in their line up. He's then been left out of a pre-season friendly by Parky and perceived this to mean that he's not wanted by us.
Disgruntled is not trouble and with the right man management can be dealt with. I'd like to believe that the above comments by Parky is his olive branch to Dicko.
Saw a day or so ago that Parky said Gillingham still haven't paid us for taking Josh Wright on loan, so no surprise we wouldn't want to loan them another player.
[cite]Posted By: Salad[/cite]perhaps the main issue was that he handed in a transfer request when he wasn't in the first psf xi.
This is the key to the whole Dickson situation IMHO. Parky has made it clear that he ONLY wants players at the club who are totally committed to playing for Charlton. By asking for a transfer, after being unsettled by the Gillingham approaches, Dickson has made it clear that he ISN'T committed to the club. Parky therefore had no option but to move him out. If Dickson comes back from Bristol Rovers with a clear commitment to us then I'm sure Parky would welcome him back. I just can't see this happening though. I blame Gillingham for the whole situation. Dickson has just been very naive and not very bright.
I dont think it is a lack of commitment. Having just read his interview in South London Press, it seems to be based on frustration from continually not being selected despite proving himself in pre season....

Dickson has started a mere six times for us in 2 1/2 years in mainly poor Charlton sides, two of those games he played up front on his own, not his forte, yet people are writing him off as no good, despite evidence to the contrary. What he does offer is the excitement you pay your money for every Saturday. I am not convinced by 4-5-1 and am sure our side would pass the ball equally well with 4-4-2.
After sitting on the bench for so long while a procession of strikers are tried in front of him, he now finds he's not in the 18 and doesn't even have reserve games to get a run out. No wonder when other clubs are publicly asking for his services he might ask Parky why he's not in his plans - but he's hardly done a Scott Parker toybox.

"After being the top scorer for the third pre-season in a row and still not getting a chance, I feel it has reached boiling point. If it isn’t going to happen for me here then I need it to happen somewhere else."
That might be true, but it's clear to everyone watching Shelvey and Burton offer a lot more, and it's not just about goals. And even then, look at the goals and assists between Shelvey and Burton this season, very good records in 9 games.
It's fair enough though, he wants to start every game, so let him go out on loan. He can score goals at this level, but so can Shelvey and Burton, who apart from pace can offer pretty much everything Dickson can and more.
"That might be true, but it's clear to everyone watching Shelvey and Burton offer a lot more, and it's not just about goals."
Burton and Shelvey offered absolutely nothing this evening at Colchester. I'm not a fan of Dickson, but I've only see him play for us. We must be doing something wrong if he moves elsewhere and suddenly starts scoring regularly - and for a promotion rival team, too.
best news of night to see Dickson score again and against Pardew! maybe Pardew is thinking what if he gave Dickson a chance rather than keeping faith with the non scoring strikers last season
Not good news to see Bristol Rovers win again. They are a big threat to us this season, Southampton are not. But it was funny to see Pardew lose again! If we want to have any chance of going up this year we are going to have to play 4-4-2 at some stage. So either we recall Dicko or Fleets, or we buy another striker.

I'd disagree there. Shelvey sure, but as was obvious from the start a 17 year old cannot and should not be expected to play every game pretty much through to the end. I think we've got a bit of duty of care to the lad, and if we keep going the way we're going he'll go the same way as a lot of potential: so those that demand we keep playing him need to consider if it's worth trashing his long term career for.
Burton's exceeded all expectations, but if plan B is Burton and McLeod, then there's a big flaw in it. Again, there's a massive reliance on a player, this time a vet who's had a few injury problems. Despite what poor quality pundits say, football management is about seasons not your last game. People that have got stuck into the belief that we'll be OK haven't factored that an unchanging formation will get sussed by better managers/teams, and that people will get injured.
But then, as people do remind us on here, it's not just about scoring goals it's about winning games:
Points gained by Rovers whilst on loan: 7/9
Points gained by Charlton whilst on loan: 4/9
Gap between the teams prior to loan: 4
Gap now: 1
Effectively, Parky's succeeded in making Rovers an even bigger promotion rival.
There is every likelihood that Dicko will now choose to go in January to a Club where the Management (which happens to include the legend that is Lennie) make him feel a part of things.
And what might we get out of this? £200K maybe - will that buy us a 20 - 25 goal a season striker?
Do people honestly think that Dickson would have fared any better last night? We were awful all over the pitch, I don't think Sir Dicko of Godliness would have made an iota of difference.
There is no doubt he is a goalscorer and good luck to him, and who knows? Burton might break his leg at Leeds and we have to call him back? He may roll his socks up and grab an opportunity at Charlton with both hands and fire us to promotion.

Dickson said himself that he needed to get out of London and stop all the nightclubbing and take his football more seriously.

Even once the 4-5-1 approach gets found out and we need something new?
RoyDick o' the Rovers.

Did Dickson score after he got subbed? Apparently he's that good.

We'll see.
are the doubters still going to claim he's not good and doesn't offer anything different to what we've got
Is it time for a complete overhaul of our system? Not yet - but in time it may be.
