Dickson will be sold in January, the question is to who. If BR don't buy him then Gillingham will, that frees up some money to buy Sodje.

Shouldn't we actualy see Sodje play before we talk about signing him?
  • A fair point, but we'll have to get some cover in - Burton we know is struggling, McKenzie not fully fit, Tuna too young, Dickson/Fleetwood on their way out, Mooney might return to Reading anytime and that leaves McLeod...

I'd rather we got someone in permanently before we have to either make a panic loan or try one of Tuna/McLeod/Mckenzie.

Gillingham offering zip will not free up money for Sodje :-)
  • From the OS today.

One Addicks man currently out on loan is Chris Dickson, who will not be able to play for Bristol Rovers against Charlton next Tuesday night under the terms of his switch.

Dickson has scored three times during his spell with the Pirates, and with his deal set to end in mid-December, there have been discussions with Rovers about a permanent switch.

"I've had one or two chats with their director of football, Lennie Lawrence, and they're weighing things up, which they're entitled to do," stated Parkinson. "He's our player, and he's contracted here until the end of the season, but if they want to buy him, they've got to make us an offer."

No surprise with any of that.

Not even the fact that they've got the number of goals he's scored wrong.
  • On the bench last night.

Replaced the goalscorer Duffy on 80 mins.

    Rovers won 1 - 0
  • they don't want him then
  • I understand that once his present loan runs out (max 93 days?) he'd still have to return to Charlton for the Christmas period.

He can then be sold or loaned out again from January 1st, of course.

some Rovers fans have seen an improvement and thought he played well last Saturday albit coming on when BRFC were 3 - 0 up.

    Others still not sure.
  • I would still have him back here, as an impact sub he could be handy and imo if we lose Sodje or Mooney, Dickson could possibly do well with Burtons intelligence and hold up play alongside him. Anything over selling him to Gills! Also I would much rather him than McLeod!
  • it all depends on whether we can hold onto Mooney and Sodje (or one of them at least)

can someone remind me what the latest is with their loans?

    cheers

As it stands, Akpo is here until 9th January. The situation at Sheff Weds uncertain until they sort their management.

Mooney, extended until beginning of Jan, plus most probably an extension if we want it.
  • on what little i've seen of apko he's looked pretty poor , obviously time will tell, mooney looks a better bet despite all those misses on saturday
  • Hmm yes poor player akpo 3bad games and 2or3 good ones to go with 2 or 3 goals...
  • 2 goals in no starts, and a handful of sub appearances.

Maybe his 1st touch is not quite international quality, but he is big, strong and powerful with a great attitude.
To get the best out of him, we have to provide the type of service he can thrive on.
  • Akpo has a 24/48 hour recall and it wouldn't surprise if Sheff Weds new manager, when appointed, recalled him as surely he'd want to assess his squad as a whole before the window opens in Jan.

He's not fully fit hence he's starting matches on the bench, but I like what I've seen of him - the goal against Yeovil got us a point and was a quality strike. However saying that he isn't an international with 20/30 caps under his belt and a Champion's League winners medal or two so another poor signing.

On the other hand they might just be happy to get rid of him to free up wages for their own players. Most managers like to bring their own players in from previous clubs.

What I've seen of Akpo I've mostly liked. Not started any games this season so a bit rusty but is a different type of player and already got a couple of goals. Not a world beater but decent enough at this level when fit IMHO

He is unlike any other striker at Charlton. Big and strong which I feel is an essential for a manager to have at his disposal in division three.
  • We learnt at the start of the season the need for Plan B and how a bit of variety is vital. Burton although he has been great cannot do it all and needs some support, Mooney has come in and provided that, but Akpo from what I have seen is a different type of striker and has a genuine threat. He may not be the best ever or have a great touch but he causes havoc and looks like he knows where the goal is- certainly judging by the fact whenever he has come on, he has usually got in a goalscoring position or two.

Therefore, Akpo imho would be a valuable addition to the squad, although I would like to see him start a game!
  • None of you know just how much I've been missing this thread.......
  • One swallow...

But fair play, he did well today and if he can carry on then he will be a valuable addition for the rest of the season.

And i've been missing you on this thread since Dicko stopped playing for BR Addick Addict...
  • Was impressed by Dickson today, I would like to see how he plays alongside Deon. Personally I reckon he would thrive alongside Burton's intelligence, hold up play and all round game.

Would have been nice to see Dickson score though, help his confidence no end
  • Spoke to a Rovers fans yesterday, Dickson had a set to with one of thier centre halfs during training. Happens at every club, however Dickson wanted to carry it on and even after a game v MK dons.
