I am currently working towards doing the bluewater 10k on Sunday morning (and nursing a slightly sore calf from a time trial last week - 5 1/2mile in about 38 mins).
After that it will be an easy week and then hard into the 1/2 marathon stuff.
Also as people will have been training for a few weeks now you may get the odd niggle here and there. My recommendation is lots of stretching after runs, and if you need a physio I recommend physio in the city (they have a few clinics in the city) sorted out a problem I had earlier in the year.
1/2 marathon upate, set off this morning just before seven! planned a run using mapmyrun to try to use a route with flat roads, so it was down to the common, up to shootershill nick, down to the sun in the sands, onto the heath and the princess of wales pub, was feeling good so went across the heath to greenwich park gates, thorough the park to the cutty sark! still feeling strong!! so it was along towards blackwall lane, starting to puff and pant a bit so I set a target of the Valley, reached the Valley (my mid week run route) so I extended my target to john wilson street, now I`m blowing like a cheap tart on a saturday night, but determined to push on, so its along to burrage rd and up to plumstead station, after dodging the vomit and the dropped kebabs past plumstead nick and to wickham lane, up wickham lane to kings highway reaching the car dealers and looking up the hill I could do no more, gone, finished, kerput, absolutely fecked!!! but knowing in my mind I must have beat my 6.5 mile route I had carefully planned over the weekend, a 2 mile walk home, passing the young`uns on winns common just starting their runs with those "give it up Grandad you`ll kill yourself grins" feeling inwardly satisfied that with luck I would have cracked 7 miles, some 1 month ago I couldn`t run a bath, let alone run 7, so after a long soak its out with the laptop, was it 7 miles, was it feck, it was !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
10.9 miles, had I have known I`d have kicked on a bit ;-)
you guys have helped and encouraged, for that I thank you, with a very sore thigh (I tweaked my the muscle, just above my knee) I will get some treatment somewhere, and continue my personal ambition of completing this run.
Good luck to you, go out for a 6 mile run during the week, without pushing it and see how good you feel afterwards. You will wonder what all the fuss was about.
joined 2500 others this morning for a 10k round bluewater, 48mins, a bit slower than intended but took it easy as my calf was playing up. A week of my feet and some prodding to break down scar tissue will help and then it is into the 1/2 mara programme. It is good to hear how you are all getting on, it is surprising how quickly you go from struggling through a couple of miles to being able to trot round 6-8 miles. Keep it up.

10k in 48 minutes there was always going to be someone pi55 on my parade, Lol ;-)
So TCE you have managed to run 10 miles in just one months of practice? I'm amazed by that if you were totally unfit before.
I havent even started road running yet, nothing like a stint in the cardiac ward of the QE to give you the total heebie jeebies to any exercise. I have been given the all clear and hope to start exercising this week... but whether im brave enough to do this i dont know now. I need to get back on the saddle this week so to speak and make my mind up soon.

If I have got the gist of your comments you have been unwell, I hope you are recovering well. As to your opening line you appear to question the fact that did indeed run this distance, is that correct?
Life as we have seen recently, can be taken from those so young for varying reasons, And for these reasons choose to support this messageboards attempts to raise funds for such worthy causes as Demelza. Personally I always wanted to run a marathon (a half marathon will do as a start) as I always wanted to play at The Valley (Well I did try to play) as to how unfit I am, I`m over 50, weighed in 14 half stone at the start of this, it was there for all to see at this time last year , all I have done since then is play golf a maximum of 4 times a month, and drink myself stupid afterwards. And as to the ten miles thats how "map your run" worked out the milage and I know what roads I ran! I have tried to get involved, by inviting others to join me on my jog`s, or joining others to match (not compete) what/how you younger/fitter guys or girls are doing on your runs, but to no avail so I go out on my own 3 times a week, 2 runs of 5ish miles with the sunday run being the run where I push myself to my limits!! albeit running the flattish roads, "I will compete this run" why, "because I want too" and if it earns a few quid along the way thats even better,
As to actually, did I do the run? I know I did :-)
Coincidentally when i got home i got dragged out for my first road run. Its interesting that i train at a gym on average 5 times a week and feel at my most fittest ever (apart from the last two weeks) but this i found a different ball game.
AFKA we ran round Eltham Park South. The perimeter is exactly one mile so its a good indicator of how far you are running and how much further you have to run! I know its going round the same area but I plan to do this for a few weeks before i start running the riverfront.
I only managed 3 miles but it was my first run and did it in 32 mins, legs ache a little today. I held Tavern back tho i think, he pissed it.
I went to the gym last night, ran for 2 mins, and stopped. Curb_it, can I come to the park with you one night? I have my gym stuff tonight!!!! where is this park?
[cite]Posted By: AFKABartram[/cite]lol, well done TCE, i don't think anyone has ever taken a message of praise in quite the wrong way !!!
Tell me about it, After I read it 3 or 4 times I still managed to misunderstand and get it totally the wrong way, now I think I owe the lady a drink by way of an apology, am I forgiven Curb-it?

[cite]Posted By: Curb_It[/cite]Perhaps my fault for not putting a "well done" in front of " that's amazing". that would have come across better.
As a married man of some 27 plus years, I have had plenty of experience of misunderstanding women, and as for a "Well Done" its never been said before ;-) but thanks and Sorry once again for getting it so wrong. I`ll be out again tonight.
TCE Let me know how you get on! my legs are still killing me from a tiddle 3 mile. Im going to do a swim tonight instead.
Glass - yes following right round the edge, dont cut across the middle, start on footpath entrance on Glenesk road and round. Its just over a mile i think according to map my run.

top stuff going to give it a go, Mrs GHE is in training for some 5K thingy so trying to train her too. Finding that very hard though, not that i'm fit and having to slow down its just that she is 5foot in running shoes and im having to pigeon step my way round )

Will do Curb-it, I found doing a shorter distance but pushing myself really hard to get back up the hill which I do tuesdays and thursdays has really helped my endurance but if I run the hill at the start then forget it, on sundays I just push it that bit further and continue to run until I`m no longer comfortable. the twinge I had in my thigh seems have eased, we`ll see how I do to tonight :-)

Just got back, according to my official timekeeper (The Wife) and the calibrated stopwatch (The kitchen clock) 58 minutes and 35 seconds door to door, so a quick calculation, I make that 7 and bit minutes outside Roger Bannister`s 4 minute mile world record ;-) I was going to go on but started to tire on the common, not sure if sunday had taken its toll, does anyone else find the worse bit is the first bit, I could quite easy pack up in the first half mile and go home, but after that its almost fun, I said ALMOST ;-(
I Take it everyone who entered got their Run to the Beat E-Mail, it even had a breakdown of the voting thus far for the type of music they intend to play around the course. All 10,000 places filled within six weeks as well.
108 Days to go peeps think it's time a few more started pounding the Streets :-)

NO that is not correct at all. My question was had you only been running for one month.
And if only practicing one month i was just stating how amazing that was. in no way was i questioning whether you were telling the truth.
Please accept my humble apology`s :-(
...stands in corner muttering.............. "never question a lady, your old enough to know better"

im still amazed you've done so well in a month.
is that following the path around Curb_it

Thanks for that G.A. but I looked at that when I first got the phone, but a calender seems more appropriate at the speed I run.
