was out with the mrs last night, did 2 miles with her in 30 mins. (very slow, but i wouldn't dare tell her that!!) and then did the same 2 miles again on my own in just under 18 mins.
LOL Shag, no what I am training for is to not get passed by somebody wearing one of these or something of similar ilk, how embarrassing is that gonna be. It's gonna be bad enough having women motoring past you without someone wearing something like that pass you as if you are treading water!
If anyone is seriously considering pulling out, are the entry places transferable as I really would love to get involved in this...especially as I do nothing but running nearly every night of the week now.
if you look at the FAQ's on the front page of the website it says that entry is non transferable.
you can still enter but you have to raise money for another charity.
done 3 miles yesterday okay yesterday. Just done 3 miles today and it was very very hard. Did two days on trot as missed monday night. god knows how im going to add another 10! very concerned as to what i've left myself in for!

In my experience they are not transferrable, but as long as you are happy with a bit of subterfuge the likelihood is nobody will notice.
I dont know what I'm going to do yet - is it morally incorrect to get a place from elsewhere, pay them the £200-300 what they expect in sponsorship out of my own pocket and then use my place to get sponsorship for the Charlton Life effort?
Not the ideal solution I guess - would rather pay the £200 out of my own pocket to Demelza House... but then they dont actually have any places...
UPDATE............ After sundays appalling performance, and Tuesdays struggle to complete my twice weekly 5.25 mile run, Tonight I managed a best time of exactly 55 minute door to door (according to our kitchen clock) and even better I`m now tipping the scales at 13st 10lbs with body fat at 21.6% at the start I was 14st 9lbs with a 34.1% body fat, (according to the portable weighbridge) the wife keeps in the bathroom!! so now I`m back on schedule to finish this run which is my target.
Thanks to Kigelia for the stretches he sent to me, they certainly helped.
Kigelia - whens the best time to do stretches? I've seen various thoughts on whether you should or shouldnt stretch before exercise.. what are your thoughts?
Personally I do some light stretching after a short warm up when I am at the gym. But when out on a road run I leave the stretching till I have finished, but I make a point of taking the first 5 minutes of the run fairly easily to give my muscles time to loosen up.
The dominant school of thought at the moment (as far as I am aware) is that you get the most benefit from stretching if you do it after your run.
I also do some specific work on my calves (prescribed by my physio) twice a day.
in any event the best time to stretch seems to be after your body is warm, be that due to exercise or a shower or other warming type activity.
If anyone has any specific areas that feel tight I am happy to send you copies of some suitable exercises for those areas.

Well had an email back from the RTTB organisers - it may well be possible for places to be transferred from those now unable to compete. With Susie's permission, I've given them her name so hopefully I may be able to gatecrash the party.
In preparation (and since the wife decided our marriage was over and have had nothing better to do in the evenings), I've been running literally 4-5 times a week for the last 8 weeks, and I managed just under 8.2 miles on Sunday in 1hr 37mins...but when you see the route I took, you'll understand why it took me so long. Next time , I may try a nice flat course. It works out around 11min 49 sec per mile, is that reasonable at this stage of the training??? So if I keep that pace up I'll be looking to finish the 13 miles in around 2.5 hours...
In that 8 weeks, I've gone from 16st 4lbs to 14st 12lbs so am feeling damn good about myself at the moment (for the first time in ages!) Only another stone to go!
Here's the 8.2mile course here: http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/united-kingdom/bexleyheath-/-crayford/803291586757
hope everyone is progessing their training nicely. did an steady 60 minutes (including a 10min warmup with my son). No idea on distance (probably about 7miles). Took it easy as had a cold last week and didn't really get over it till the end of the week.
One tip for people, some of the best running advice i ever received.
A used to train with one of the best juniors in Europe in the mid 90's. He was a lot quicker than me but always looked easy. He told me one that his secret was to:
"let the meat hang from the bones".
Essentially he was saying don't worry too much about the style of running, just make sure you run relaxed. loose shoulders, not overstriding. After a few weeks of working at it I broke my 800pb.
This week for me was a step backwards, an injury to my knee caused a build up of fluid which was due to be removed on thursday but because I was away working from tuesday I had to go private and have treatment monday night and rest all week! back running again this morning after a weeks rest just about struggled thorough about 4 and a half miles, feel very pi55ed off at the moment and a bit sore, but will not give up yet!!
TCE - no need to think about giving up at this stage, but from experience I'd be careful not to over do it with an injury. Four and a half miles is a fair old way to push yourself through after a week off with that sort of problem, and I don't think you should feel bad if you rein the training back in until you're fully recovered.
Still three months to go, and even if your longest run before the day is no more than 10 miles, as long as you're feeling OK and pain-free at the start, the mix of the atmosphere and good old adrenaline should be more than enough to get you round.
Thanks for the encouragement AllLeftFoot, " Doc" said "its an age thing" no surprise there then! no sign of blood in the fluid!!! which is apparently a good thing?? something to do with 13 and bit stone landing on 50 year knee`s ;-( I was more concerned with the bill the hospital gave me (£130), than what he said, " Dr: come in and take a seat Mr T.C.E, T.C.E: why thank you Dr, Dr: Arrrh, bit of fluid on the knee a, looking at the hospital letter and my swollen knee!!! T.C.E: thinks to himself " feck me, he`s good" but smiles and say`s yes Doc, Dr: we can do something about that, retrieving a syringe from a cupboard, "Now, it was`nt that bad " he said, trying to peel me off the ceiling!!! see my secretary on the way out!!!
I wish I could earn it that quick, 15 minutes!!!!!!!!! but they did say at the NHS hospital after a scan and xray there was no other damage, so today was more a fitness thing than the knee. so all will end well I`m sure, thanks again
i think the key thing about getting back to things after illness/injury is lowering expectations. Run slower, run shorter and at the first sign of pain reduce it even more. There is still plenty of time to get up to speed before October so take it easy.
Well after many emails and phone calls, the Run to the Beat people have said no to me taking Suzy's place. They've put it down to over capacity. All I'm doing is asking to take the place of another runner who doesnt want to do it and they've said a big fat no. Doesnt make any sense to me.
It makes sense if you've got someones entry fee and don't have to do the pre and post race processing. Also changing runners adds another administrative burden. Thirdly, they could probably sell more entries than they've got capacity for hoping that people would drop out (a bit like scheduled airline places)
I had another health hiccup and not been out for a week and a half.. so am back to it today! Ive now dropepd down to Kigelia's "get me around it" training schedule!! think thats for the best.
I have got to say I am enjoying the running less & less last few weeks. Have been out in the p*ssing rain Monday & Tuesday this week getting home thinking was that really worth it? Waking up next morning aching, then do it all again after work the next day. Think it's the running alone syndrome need someone to come out running with me !

Sounds like you're doing well Ray. Keep it up!
