Not sure he’d get too involved with us again. He’s just moved to the Midlands.

Maybe not  5 day a week but having such a popular Ex manager and player involved on a part time basis in some capacity seems like a good plan if Chris Powell's managing and coaching 1st team days are behind him.

He could be a mentor to our young diverse academy age groups if he still wants to get on the training pitches for 2 or 3 days a week for a few hours?

Probably a credit to our Defence that Jones, Ramsay or Edwards didn't get into this... But still surprising the amount of blocks, interceptions and clearances they made.

Apologies if already posted, here's a YouTube video from Watford fan in Jimmy Seed on Saturday.

Made some decent comments about us at FT. Worth watching just for Watford fans reaction to there non-penalty and seeing home end erupt with Knibbs goal.

I cant seem to find decent footage of NJ giving it to the Watford fans, apparently it kicked off a bit afterwards due to his 'celebrations'!

that feller over his left shoulder has got an appalling barnet!

  • Saw this wee fella amongst the Smile Like You Mean It quality photos. Anyone know him? I love it 🥺🥰♥️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
My Wife's great grandson George, his first ever game at Charlton with Uncle Kelly (from the States) and brother Jake. George is a fantastic character, said after the game from his seat near where the corner was taken advised Connor Coventry where to place the corner, so helped Charlton to a great victory!

What were Dave and SCP chatting about before the game? Didn't get in until 5 minutes after kick off so totally missed the pre game stuff
SCP was introduced to the crowd and BDL asked him about his time at Charlton and his relationship with the club and supporters.
My mate loves SCP equal to me. He's been a season ticket holder for 37 consecutive seasons......

    at Hillsborough!!!

  • I have to be honest and say I have had my reservations about our manager but I am growing to love him. Maybe he is somebody you have to get to know. I loved the Watford fans calling him a Wanker all game then him going up to them at the end and giving them victory fist pumps. Then they get upset! Football fans are far to precious and I loved that. I wouldn't do it, but then again, I wouldn't tape my fingers up and there are lots of things Nathan does that I wouldn't do. So I didn't get the man at first but I think I am getting him now and that is why I am liking him. This has nothing to do with results. I was more than happy not to like him and have him successful.

We started watching Ted Lasso again last night. The “wanker” chants rang a bell after Saturday -  at least NJ only has to suffer them from away fans!

At one point I said to Mr W that Lasso had a touch of NJ about him (or vice versa) and that was before he said that his great joy came from getting his players to be the best version of themselves 😀
Started watching Ted Lasso on Saturday. It's so crap but I love it!

No wonder we score some many more goals second half attacking the covered end.
  • Late to post as been basking in a very satisfying win ! Funny thing is when Knibbs came on I said to my Grandson ‘ his first touch will be to score the winner’ ‘ I wasn’t quite right but not far off ! The quality of football was so noticeably better than last season. We will definitely have tougher games than Saturday but I think we are going to be just fine. I don’t see us in a relegation fight. I know it’s early days but I think we have enough quality to be ok & might even surprise a few. If we beat our noisy neighbours then I really will think anything is possible !

I feel Jones as our manager will see us through this season, he knows the league really well, in addition we have plenty of players wanting to prove themselves at this level so they will have a bit of fire in their belly.

OMG Tell George he has a number one fan here & I'm more than happy to buy him a proper shirt if he wants one. Let me know ❤️
  • KBslittlesis, thats very kind and generous of you, passed on the message to George's mum, they couldn't possibly accept Kara (George's mum) told me George really does want a shirt and had his own money but the club shop was too busy on Saturday so mum and dad may go to Bluewater or Dad will take him to club shop against Leicester. Once again thankyou for your kind offer, thanks from Kara, Chris and me (Dave).

A very late footnote as surprised it hasn't been corrected on here. Despite immense pressure from Jones, the header to Knibbs was actually made by a Watford player, possibly Grieves?

Jones categorically did not touch the corner ball for our goal. It doesn't matter one jot and of course, I loved it from my front row covered end upper seat!

Yes, the replay confirmed as much to me too. But he really did pressure their defence effectively. I would have given him the assist. As you say, no real matter. His aggression to get there was so valuable at that point.

Show me something showing categorically that  Jones didn't get to it because every angle I've seen I'm sure he did.

To be fair, from your vantage point it may well be more clear, but from the tv coverage, maybe not so...🤷‍♂️

literally the close up tv replays confirm it came off their players forehead.

Genuinely cannot believe  this view is being challenged. Maybe someone has the tech skills to put the tv replays back on here.

It was as good as a Jones assist, but correct, the media have not given the assist to a Charlton player.

All that matters is we won the game because of that goal AND the Charlton Life Statbank says Jones with the assist 😀
  • I thought we played well, we deserved the win and looked good value for the 3 points.

What I would say is not to get to ahead of ourselves in terms of what we can actually achieve this season.

Watford did not have a good season last year and have a new manager who has never managed in this league before. They have also made lots of changes to their squad which will take time. I think its a little early to say that our players who played for us in league one can manage and already step up to play at championship level. I am certain we will have much tougher tests, starting away at Bristol on Saturday and followed by Leicester at home.

I am not trying to be negative, or criticise. We will also improve with the more games we play at this level and the more experience that these players will gain for playing in this league.

Apter does look like a good replacement for Small, He has a fantastic delivery on him and is not scared to cut inside a shoot from outside the box, I like that about him already and look forward to seeing how he progresses this season. Same with Carey, great engine on him and a willing runner. Ramsey and Jones were absolute rock solid as well. But lets see how they deal with stronger teams that we are yet to face.

All in all delighted to start the season with a win. It is great to be back in the Championship again.

Absolutely no Leicester players should be in that side, they were absolutely honking. It was only injuries & a red card that got them back into the game.
