I've read a bit of the Watford forums quotes. Many fairly balanced about how their team played. The overriding comments were about they've made a lot of signings, the manager is still trying to find the right combinations etc, etc.
Jones started with 50% last years team, and 50% newbies. (roughly!) What amazed me was , the first game of the season, with this many changes, we played like a team, Watford didn't.
It was helped by Carey and Apter playing together for Blackpool, but the understanding of positional sense , their responsibilities was evident from the KO.
Greg Docherty has come under some criticism, and I agree that he didn't have his best game, but we must persevere with his captaincy. He is an organiser and a talker, an experienced head in a difficult league, and my view he brings experience to quite a youg side.
I watched the YouTube clip that somebody posted, where it was a clear plan for the winning goal. Jonsey pushing his marker, Doch, not doing much, then as soon as the ball is in the air, Doch rushes in, blocks both Jonsey's marker, and other players block the goalkeeper from coming for what was quite a loopy cross. Jones wins the header and the rest is history.
Hats off to the free kick/corner coach, it now looks a completely planned execution. If Doch was not on the puitch at this time, would it have gone so smoothly?29 -

Not sure how good Watford are but a very encouraging start. Sweet to be the only promoted team to win on the opening day.

What that showed as you said was the player who was pushing and shoving with Jones was then blocked off by Doc just as the corner was taken taking him out of the equation completetly. It was very clever and sneaky. Doc just stepped in.paulsturgess said:

Think it was Docherty if I am thinking of the same chance, but from my seat I don't think it was clear enough chance as bodies were in the way. If we had lost possession would have been in real trouble during the counter attack .1 -

I was pleased to read a number of comments on Twitter asking questions like how can I team from league one with fitter and stronger than the end of the game? We were dead on our feet and yet they looked fresher.

I'm not surprised they noticed that. We are weirdly critical of TC on here, fans were always very quick to jump on him during the Holden/Appleton times and it doesn't take much to turn them even now after he was a key player in our promotion. He was so involved yesterday. He misplaced some very simple passes which was frustrating but his passing rate was 15/20 for 75%, which is decent for a player who will be looking to play passes that are more likely to be cut out. Carey's passing rate for instance was 13/19 for 68% . The rest of TC's effort was huge though. He had 32 touches, won both his ground duels, blocked a shot that he threw himself at, created 1 big chance, made a clearance and won a free kick. He worked his socks off. Kelman in comparison touched the ball 14 times, completed 3 of 5 passes, lost possession 5 times and made one tackle. He didn't involve himself enough unlike TC who found space and demanded the ball. Campbell was always the one who was forcing their defence back, stopping them from pushing up too high and threatening to run in behind. They were visibly worried every time he got on the ball.
