Can't seem to get my head around some people saying Kaminski could have cost us, presumably regarding their "penalty" appeal, as far as I see it he went after the ball, and the guy lifted it over him and proceeded to fall over Kaminski purely by his momentum, I don't know what else Kaminski could do, he didn't "trip" the guys feet or anything like that, it was just a coming together...🤷♂️

The point i was making was that the second weekend in august there are a large number of people on holiday not one specific to gym classes but as you know using that as an example for how many people who would normally consider attending a game would not be available to do so.Airman Brown said:

I remember @Airman Brown would mention that opening fixtures suffer a bit from people being on holiday. But it was a bit of an anti-climatic note to hear at the end of a great day in every other way.

Hardly a disaster, but the club probably sold about 6,000 home match tickets. Perhaps they would have sold closer to 10,000 if they hadn’t overcooked the pricing?
i do agree with you that the price point is probably too high to maximise revenue. I would rather sell out at a lower price than have seats available at a higher one.0 -

I was really impressed with everyone. Campbell, and I'm being maybe overly critical of him, needs to believe in himself and back himself, his head drops too easy.
Sonny Carey was very good. I reckon that kid watches Bernardo Silva a lot. He does a lot of similar stuff and I love how willing he is to travel with the ball and has a gift of releasing it at a really annoying time for the opposition.
Miles Leaburn was the Miles we all want him to be, getting involved, using his physicality brilliantly
What I love now this group understand what is expected of them is how well we hold our shape and its obvious to me what we are trying to do.
Kaminski is a decent keeper, I don't know what he was doing in the second half but we have seen much worse things from Charlton keepers on a regular basis, he will be ok.
Should have had two penalties, Tanto was probably too honest which I like coupled with an absolute mincer of a referee
Lloyd Jones, Bell and Ramsay all very solid. Ramsay has such a high ceiling of ability and was a Rolls Royce yesterday8 -

It's why I said in the preview the 11 on the pitch at the business end or from 65 mins onwards were either going to win the match or hold on to a lead.
The starting XI isn't as vital as it was as long as you have your defensive unit starting. Game changers from the bench will be vital this season and Kelman will play his part whether starting or a 2nd half introduction. I could give you 27 reasons why Charlie will play his part. He ain't "Dog shit" which was a bizarre comment!
More times than not Kyprianou would bury that header in front of the away fans when Bell made his first and only mistake of the day.
Bizarre refereeing yesterday with two stonewall pens and I would need to see Tanto's again but it's sounds like the ref was consistent and wrong!
The ref was in the perfect position to see Josh being barged in the back and IF we had gone 1 up then the rest of the game would've had a different dynamic.
No harm done as we won it at the death with a beautiful climax from Harvey who wins the First Special K award👏🏼

Both the Watford one and our one on Edwards were clear pens. Not so sure about the Tanto one. I think the ref looked at the fact that their player did what he wanted to do before Kaminski clattered into him. But it is still a pen. That was poor overall from Kaminski in that he lost focus to allow the chance in the first place. Not sure if I can explain what the ref was thinking for the Edwards one. Maybe he felt for both pen appeals that the players played for them but I think this is wrong.2

I have made it no secret how much I like the signing of Knibbs, but look at the rest as well, that is pre-season really paying off. The new signings have integrated really well, and it's the little touches like Ramsay encouraging Knibbs to get involved more with the celebrations.
I watch a lot of Charlton content, and I've spoke with Kaybe a couple of times, and he genuinely comes across as a really decent character. It's really important we have characters like this, where in the past we have had players who you can tell actually don't care about the club.10 -

RAMSAY: familiarly excellent
JONES: dominant
BELL: excellent debut
APTER: decent throughout
CAREY: emerged late on
COVENTRY: bit slow but decent passing
DOCHERTY: bit slow and often overrun
EDWARDS: pacey and strong
KELMAN: needs to challenge for headers Had negligible service
CAMPBELL: struggled throughout

It sounds seductively simple and is the most basic calculation facing any business. Marketing text books are full of case studies showing how it didnt work out, although in many cases, there were just other things that needed to be done to make the price cut effective. - do “lapsed” fans hear about the price cut?- is it as easy as possible to buy a ticket? ( there’s a thread running on exactly this topic)
- can they get there as easilyas they recall in the old days?
but first you need to be reasonably sure its the main reason that puts people off. I gave up years ago trying to persuade the club to do the market research that would shed light on that. But I woůld assume they take a look at what other clubs are charging. If Boro and Stoke are overall charging 10% or so less, then that might be a good indicator.But yeah´ getting off topic. It was good to see a pretty full Valley, trouble is on TV you mainly get to see the West Stand I have a completely irrational dislike of the West Stand0 -

Yesterday I left home just after 7am to pick up grandson no 2 and it was just after 7pm by the time I'd got home after I'd delivered him back with his rightful owners.
It was a long and tiring day but, in the end, worth it.
I didn't think any of our players had a bad game, just some looked way better than others.
The usual standouts at the back - Rambo, Jones, Edwards - continued their greatness from last season and I was very impressed with Carey and RApter.
One thing I noticed from my vantage point from the back corner of the Cupboard End was the general lack of movement at times by our players. There were a nunber of occasions when both sides seemed to be occupying a 30-yard strip across the ground but nobody in a red shirt (when we had possession) looked to be making a leading run, even if it was only a feint, to pull the defence about and create space for someone else to run into.
Earlier in the thread someone posted footage of the goal from ground and highlighted Jones's movement to lose his marker prior to heading back for His Knibbs to score. We're very good with the off-the-ball running and moves from set pieces (even if the actual delivery of the ball is bobbins) but there never seems to be too much of it going on when play is compressed in a small section of the pitch; our runs only come after the ball has been played forward into space.
We'll probably come back to earth with an almighty bump next week against Brizzle City but there were enough signs on Day One to suggest we may be OK this season and stay up1 -
I watched the TV coverage. He was all over the defender prior to the corner being crossed in. A proper tussle took place. He made the defender look tiny, he's a proper unit. When the cross came over there was only ever going to be one winner of that ball. Jones made that goal. MOM for making it happen at the business end of the pitch, at the business end of the game. It cannot be underestimated just how important a player he has been, is, and will be for the success of Charlton. I was watching today's game - knowing that it is important, but also just wanting to get it out of the way.
The 1st game and how the season shapes up can be 2 very different stories.
Charlton 5 - 0 Southampton 1998-99
Charlton 2 - 0 Swansea 2008-09
Sunderland 3 - 1 Charlton 2018-19
Charlton 0 - 3 Man city 2003/04
Blackburn 1 - 2 Charlton 2019/20

I love the fact that we have a big squad and don't see any negatives behind it.
It will certainly help during the Christmas period, and we can always loan 1 or 2 out if need be.
It's just a positive headache for Jones.
Competition for places in the starting 11 certainly doesn't rattle the cage for us fans.

If the guy had any skill he could have just tapped the ball past Kaminski, which he did, and then jumped over him if he was tripped then, I agree a pen but he didn't, he wasn't in control of the ball, and it was the guy who clattered into Kaminski rather than the other way round...imo of course...thenewbie said:
