London Riots

  • Completely shocked. Watched the events unfold here in Bangkok, another city that has seen massive rioting in recent years. Stay safe please one and all. Now is not the time for asking the questions but for putting an end to this situation, the time for questions can come tomorrow.

In Bangkok the Army took over from the Police and used deadly force. Be careful what you wish for, the ramifications of this are still being felt by Thai society.

I hope all lifers are safe.
  • Surely the government should just make an announcement saying that anyone involved in these riots gives up their human rights, which would then give the police full license to actually use the force we all know needs to be used

Just seen the Sky covert close footage of the events. I salute the Police Officer in Hackney who hit the guy in the white hooded top square on the forehead with his baton knocking him to the ground. This twat was a heavily involved in brick throwing and attacking the Police - shame he got up. We need more of this type of policing directed to the people involved. Riot Police from Northumbria and Northumberland have now arrived in London for support. Avon and Somerset officers were half way along the M4 last night heading to London, when they were called back due to an outbreak in Bristol. Everyone of us decent people will now have to pay financially for this disgraceful behaviour by the vermin that has festered unchallenged in our society. Our taxes will increase, jobs will be lost and insurance premiums will go up - none of which affect the rioting scum. I seriously believe that the world will be watching to see whether their athletes can be protected at next years Olympics, which could end up being in doubt. A £10bn investment up in smoke literally. I hope these people are really proud of themselves.
  • Great post GH.

I believe the problems arose when the underclass saw how helpless the police were in Tottenham and saw an opportunity.
  • Need to get the stewards in the Jimmy Seed involved

    Bang on Goonerhater btw.

Willmore grow up mate, please do not see that as a slur on you?
  • The Police are not being used correctly they are not being allow to draw and use there batons.

There should be only one issue from the government today anyone playing up today use any force nessecary and if that means he/she is in your face screaming at you drop em and cuff em.

They make me sick these scum

  • these scumbags are only going to get rewarded for this. they wont get nicked, they will get more money and opportunitys pumped into their 'community' and the normal hard working tax payer will be left even more out of pocket.

  • Should have been Saturday though mate, hence why they've gone and took the Piss.
  • Are the police too scared to hit them as they don't want to end up in court if they hurt someone? Like tomlinson case?

Just been down Charlton retail park. Every electrical and sports shop been done.

    Havent seen leroy post?

  • I'm OK folks, thanks for concern. Internet access cut off last night - presumably a comms cabinet somewhere caught fire. Gangs of them up and down the street all night, but I haven't seen or heard any reports of break-ins.West Croydon is an absolute warzone. Going to try to get to work - thanks for your thoughts last night.
  • Glad you're alright Leroy.
  • Looks like someone tried to do the Ladbrokes at New Eltham, and failed miserably
  • My wife and I spent a restless night in our Croydon flat. Two of the major fires were only a couple of streets away and Reeves Corner backs on to my wife's mums road.

If these scum think they're so tough we should put them on the next plane to Afghanistan and point them in the direction of the Taliban. Then we'll see just how hard they are.
  • Many thanks for the updates last night Leroy. Thankfully I'm a little way out of it in Wallington but was horrible waiting for my missus to come home from London knowing what was going on in West Croydon.

if the police had gone in too hard on saturday night the trouble would have escalated as it has done but not to this extent , so the softly softly approach led to worse trouble

they were always gonna be damned if they do damned if they don't

now the police/army/whoever have to get orrible and make it clear that it's gonna be dangerous if you wanna be anywhere near the trouble and that includes the tv cameramen and the voyeurs who are all spicing this crap up and giving the doughnuts the excitement and buzz that they are looking for

they're gonna have ot be cruel to be kind

    enough is enough

  • Who thinks it will kick off again tonight?
  • Who thinks it will kick off again tonight?
It will just hope its not as bad ive heard that it might kick off in the kent but dont know whether its bullshit
  • Who thinks it will kick off again tonight?

  • Sorry, but less arrests in London than Birmingham yesterday, makes no sense given the relative scale.  There's almost no consequences for these thugs.  I feel sorry for the police, but not further inflaming the situation is not working.  Leave a few of them lying in the gutters with the mess that they've made as a reminder that actions have reactions.
  • Who thinks it will kick off again tonight?
I reckon it'll be quieter tonight. Although if the police don't toughen up enough there really isn't much deterrent
  • Anyone read Alex Scarrow's Last Light?  There's parts in the book describing what happens when the Police presence is zero. Jesus, this has happened with Police presence!! Hope everyone on here kept safe last night. This has got to stop NOW and the little scum that are facing charges should be slung in the nick for quite a few years, and I hope they drop the soap in the showers :-)
  • it wont kick off south of woolwich. The decent working class people round here wont stand for it. they will fight back.

never thought id say it but the people of bexleyheath are better than all this.

  • I'm in complete shock to be honest.

I honestly don't know what is worse, this or the London bombings. Of course lives were sadly lost in the bombings so no comparison on that front, but that was the work a just a few warped twisted few outsiders to our society. This however is sustained civil disorder being carried out by little tens of thousands of our no good lower classes. It has manufactured a terrible scenario where the polices limitations have been exposed and they are taking full advantage. I can only see this getting worse in the interim, particularly as you'll now start to see those looking to dish out some violance under the cloak of justified retribution start to get organised.

The good law abiding people of society simply don't deserve this. I don't blame the police, I don't blame the government and I don't blame Boris for having a holiday. I solely blame those involved, their parents and those who have contributed to their shit upbringing and failed to instill any sense of right and wrong.
  • Really Gary, so if 200 youths smash up Bexleyheath town centre tonight and loot shops, you think the decent working class folk will be out in force by the clock tower fighting back?
  • It's ongoing now in places!
  • Spot on Smudge.

Can't they round up the ringleaders stick them all on the Woolwich Ferry and let it drift slowly out to sea.
  • Theresa May has really pissed me off over the last 48 hours. She's been dreadful.
  • Really Gary, so if 200 youths smash up Bexleyheath town centre tonight and loot shops, you think the decent working class folk will be out in force by the clock tower fighting back?
YES!  i can just picture them now , all meeting by the clock tower with their pitchforks charging at the looters lol. To be honest one thing to come out of this which makes me proud and that is i have done quite a good job as a parent because it mostly boils down to one thing........Parenting!
