So the first round fuck-ups in the east are not the Leafs, for once, and the Bruins have crashed out vs Florida. That opens the field a bit.0

Indeed, we're making giving Millwall a run for their money in the bottling stakes.
Infuriating hockey team.0 -
There really is no need for 7 playoff games.0

Anyone else tuning in for Stanley Cup final game 1?
C’mon you Oil!0 -

Losing 2-0 so far but have been the better team and leading in shots 18 to 9 so there's a way back into this game for them yet. We were told Dallas' depth would be too much, but turned out the Oilers' depth players performed better than Dallas'. The Oilers go much deeper than they are given credit for, it's not all about McDavid and Draisaitl, but what a pair of weapons to have. Florida slight favourites, but the two teams have almost identical records this season, if you take oit the anomaly of that losing run the Oilers had at the start of the season. It'll be a close fought 6 or 7 game series, imo. Not sure I can call which way it'll go.1

I know interest in the NHL is limited on here, but if you have a passing interest - it's game 7 of the Stanley Cup final tonight (1:20 am UK time for any night owls).
The series is finely poised at 3-3 as the Oilers aim to be only the second team ever, and the first since 1942, to come back from 3-0 to win a final 4-3 and seal a 6th cup and first for over 30 years, while the Panthers try to avoid the ignominy of a reverse sweep and win their first ever cup. It should be a belter.1 -
Been in Canada for last 3 weeks and Oilers have made a great comeback to 3-3.Even comeback from being 1 down tonight, currently 1-1 in 2nd period1

Gutted. One bridge too far.0

I’m delighted for the panthers. They built this team well over the past 7:8 years. The trade with Calgary helped. Well done Florida0
-
Gutted for the Oilers but happy for their fan who’s done very well out of whipping her bristols out at a game.1
-
Thought the oilers were unlucky not to win as they had a good 3rd period with a couple of good chances1

lived here for 4 years now and I just cannot get into NHL. Far too many games.0

Ovechkin has just broken Gretzky's all time goalscoring record. Fitting that the goal which broke the record was from his office at the top of the face off circle.
Incredible to think he's done this largely in an era when goalscoring was much lower than the cricket scores of the 80s when Gretzky was in his prime.1 -

Outside bet for the cup for me.1 -

Even with the Pens being shit again this year, it's nice to see Philly still stinks. Fired Tortorella as well - great job on the rebuild there Torts 🤣
Life, death and fuck the Flyers0 -
The Leafs choke again.1

Good ol Laffs. You love to see it 🤣
Think the finals will be a rematch - and have a feeling the Oilers edge it this year.1 -

After the miserable season the Bruins had, I can always rely on the Leafs to cheer me up..
Oilers - I’d like to see them win, but they’re another flawed team. I just don’t think they’ve got the depth to win a 7 game series against either the Hurricanes or the Panthers.2 -
We got told the Oilers didn’t have the depth last year but they went as close as you can without winning. If anything, they’re deeper this year and their 3rd and 4th lines have been contributing almost as much as the top lines so far in this year’s playoffs. This run has not been built on McDavid and Draisaitl, so far.
They’re playoff veterans now and they seem to be playing into form as the playoffs progress. Their ability to turnaround games from losing positions is pretty formidable. The big question mark for them is can they can get consistent decent goal tending out of Skinner or Pickard often enough. Encouragingly, Skinner showed signs of his form from the 2024 playoffs in the last two games vs. Vegas.
If Stu is getting his mojo back and/or they can continue to protect whoever is in goal and keep the opponents shot count low then they’re up there with the rest of the top teams and have a great chance.
I kind of have this feeling that it’s finally Canada’s time with all the shit going on with tariffs etc. The Oilers are the last remaining hope for that. This City has one thing that binds it together, the Oilers. This playoff run is already all anyone is really talking about. The place will come of its hinges if they win it.

Game one of the final tomorrow night. Would love to be attending but, especially after flying home for Wembley, I can't stretch to paying $3,000 (!) for a pair of tickets (about what I spent on Wembley tickets, plus two flights and a 5 day holiday in London!).
Series looks very tight. Both teams have come into form as the season and play-offs have progressed and have games that could potentially expose each other's weaknesses. Need Skinner to keep coming up clutch and the depth players to keep producing for the Oilers. Hyman is going to be a miss. Home ice advantage to the Oilers this year as opposed to it being Florida's privilege last year - that might make the difference. It's going to be a great series.
I'm going Oilers in 6 - it just seems too implausible to have McDavid and Draisaitl on the same team and not win at least one cup at some point.

I'd love the Oilers to do it - not just for McJesus, who absolutely deserves it, but also for RNH - who is a superb, thoroughly underrated player.
Be nice to see Marchand crying again as well 😏

Love Nuge. An understated but just quietly effective player. A real stalwart in Edmonton too.2
