  • Jones is a good person who is sensitive to criticism. That is no reason to dislike him.
Jones is an egotistical / arrogant bad loser who appears incapable of introspection and has treated players poorly on multiple occasions. Not saying he’s a bad person, but there’s a lot one could dislike about him
Football fans are so very different aren't they...

Jones continues to do enough that he keeps the job and gets at least one more window but whilst Northampton was a pretty resounding win, Cambridge was definitely not.

The late subs was definitely a bold choice. Not necessarily a good one as we seemed to give up a lot of initiative, but it worked out okay.

I've repeatedly said I have been disappointed in Jones this season and that remains so but we're seeing just enough hints of possible recovery that I think he's safe enough for now and probably rightly so.

You reckon we can win a couple of them?

We can, by the same token as we can get promoted.
  • Very tough away fixture list during the second half of the season (not just in Jan).

We still need to play 4 of the top 5 teams away (Birmingham, Wycombe, Wrexham & Stockport).

  • I always thought that he overdid the fistpumps early on When he was celebrating with the fans. Let the players bask in the glory.
We celebrate as a team and Jones is central to that. After Appelton we wanted passion and that what Nathan brings.

I don't like it when we're winning 5-0 and there is nothing from Nathan. Today fair enough (but then again when we won 2-1 after being complacent the tunnel jump is overdoing it).

I was wondering if anyone nearer could tell me, I guessed he’d been gifted clear plasters for Christmas or had that vile stuff you put on your nails to stop biting them but the black tape/plasters weren’t on his fingers yesterday

I agree with this but there are levels and there are ways to be a bad loser. And actually on reflection what’s probably more grating with Jones is he’s a bad winner
  • I think Jones is driven, excitable, stubborn, arrogant and unstable. What could possibly go wrong.

I thought we definitely looked like we needed a sub or two early in the second half. He rode it out though and the team regained control without the need for personnel changes. When we did get changes and I saw who it was, I fully understand why he didn't bring them on earlier; rightly or wrongly he'd have got slaughtered if we'd drawn or lost after bringing Anderson and Adheme on. I got the distinct impression that the subs were more about squad inclusivity than game management.

The best thing about this thread is that everyone’s comments are all in one place… I don’t have to go scouring through loads of different threads looking for them.

Up to 7th… Nathan Jones’ reds go marching on…

I changed my tune after Mansfield. I have that at least

Indeed, let's reevaluate in the summer, during the season/after a few wins isn't really the time to dig out others

  • I’ve been very critical of both the players and Jones but today was decent. I’ll still not give Jones too much credit because what’s happened in last three games isn’t a consequence of his tactics suddenly working. He’s been either forced into a change or realised his favoured style might cost him his job. Having said that, there is definitely something to build on now regardless of the whys and wherefores. Now would be a good time to invest in the squad but I’m fairly sure that’s unlikely. Anyway. Very good win today.

You’re right, but Callum had people digging him out on this thread after losses so I can understand his perspective.

Or maybe he decided to make some changes and it’s worked? And some players have upped their games too. Lots of people on here very reticent to give any credit despite improvements

I'd disagree... We've simply gone back to playing 3-5-2, and have been able to with returning players.

The difficult question Jones will have to deal with soon, is does he put Ramsay back at Right-Back or does he leave Small alone there, who himself is playing into some kind of form, as before this run of form, he too looked a liability out of position.

All this talk of him finally finding width on the Match Thread, we've had width whenever we played that formation - However for whatever reason Edwards / Small down the left and Ramsay down the right just havent been able to impact games until now... thats the big difference... Is it because the Midfield is slowly clicking?

No the big change is the fact that Lloyd Jones is back in Defence, he seems to be a proper leader back there, and we've properly benefited - Watch the Wycombe goal back today and its Jones who is desperately trying to move and block the shot.

We're also seeing Strikers taking opportunities that are coming their way more. Again its not special, we missed a hatful of chances against Exeter / Huddersfield which ended in narrow defeat on that occasion - We've been poor in periods, especially against Crawley where even my faith waivered. But we've never been subject to the sort of result we inflicted on Northampton at any point

Funny how we should evaluate in the summer after a few wins eh…

Allow me to enjoy it folks. Being on this forum wasn’t much fun only a couple of weeks ago, having my name posted all over match threads when we conceded a goal etc.

NJ is very good at making potent teams look average with good defensive structure. We’ve limited the top 2 to 2 shots on target (both today) through good defensive shape. It makes the opposition look poor and we don’t need many last ditch tackles but it’s much harder to play against. What’s been lacking up until the last fortnight was any semblance of attacking quality. That seems to be arriving now. As they (sort of) say in the NFL, attacking wins you games but defending wins championships. Obviously top 2 is gone but play offs are very much on the cards

If the bad football and poor results were because of Jones it's unfair to not attribute the improved football and results to him.

A long way to go still and the wheels may well come off but right now I'm grateful the owners have showed some patience when so many of us, me included, thought Jones would struggle to turn things around.

Digging out people who were critical of jones for the long ball tactics that wasn’t working is unfair ! Since Mansfield there has definitely been a change of game plan which is exactly what fans were calling for and results have been fantastic so maybe they were vindicated ?

This is why you stick by a good manager rather than sacking him at the first sign of poor form
