I don't think many were seriously calling for him to go. And that's mainly because there was not a lot out there to replace him. And as others have said, we can't keep chopping and changing managers.
I did start to think the players weren't buying into his ethos and that is always the death knell for any manager. The pleasing thing is these past few games show they are 100% behind him. And long may it continue. Onwards and upwards
I seriously think if there had been a poll on here after the Crawley defeat or the Orient one in the cup then about 80-85% of people (including myself) would've voted for him to be sacked.
Credit to the board (yes they do deserve some occasionally) for sticking with him and credit to Jones and whoever else is responsible for this turnaround. Still a long way to go but if we can win both games this week then we'll be in a good position.
One thing to add is that i really hope the board don't see this sudden turnaround as some kind of evidence that we don't need new signings in the window, because we absolutely do.
The best thing about this thread is that everyone’s comments are all in one place… I don’t have to go scouring through loads of different threads looking for them.

Allow me to enjoy it folks. Being on this forum wasn’t much fun only a couple of weeks ago, having my name posted all over match threads when we conceded a goal etc.
I'm sorry but this is confusing.
You've first of all posted saying you are basically digging through posts to see any negative posts about Jones, which could be seen as antagonising.
Then you've posted leave me be, as its been a rough few weeks?
Not being funny, but everyone is entitled to enjoy that win as much as the next fan, why are you trying to separate yourself like you've gone through some hardships? I think I remember one person or maybe two posting at you when we conceded? Hardly your name all over match threads.
If you are opinionated, you create a lightning rod for your back. Please stop with the siege mentality on a football forum, when fans were rightly calling out the shit football for what it was.
It was horrific, it hasn't been horrific for 4 games, it's been great. Simple.
From his time in the first team Anderson screams a potential Dobson type DM me. He’s everywhere, tackles everything and heads everything. He has great tenacity and resilience, he won’t hide if he gets something wrong.
His short - medium range passing in tight knit areas is poor, however he can get it out of his feet and spread it wide from central areas fairly consistently.

And that , for me was Coventry today to a tee. His short /medium passing is not too bad though, hence why he should be ahead of Anderson

If you read the Vitriol from Nicholas before the 3 game winning run, Nathan Jones must've drowned his puppies, burnt his table tennis table and shagged his...
My criticism was playing the 3 central strikers together for two matches which was a disaster. I think NJ had a lightbulb moment and we really did start to get players in wider positions more. Both Campbell and Small have gone past defenders in recent matches out wider !
Like many I predicted 7th to 10th back in early August and we need to be more consistent than just 3 matches but if we can keep important players fit then we may at least go close to the play offs.
Agree. Id add the middle2/3 really seem to know their roles now and are not treading on each others toes. Coventry in particular has really found his feet. He's not an attack minded, 40 yard baller. His job should only be to protect the back 3 and distribute the ball to the attack minded when he wins it back. Anderson is going to have to really up his game to dislodge Cov for me.
Anderson’s always been box to box or an attacking midfielder under Jones, he’s the competition for Docherty and Berry. Taylor’s the alternative to Coventry.
Can't see it. His distribution is awful and he's poor in front of goal I see him as a like for like for Coventry myself. Gets a foot in and can cover a lot of ground. Really need to improve his distribution though. I see Taylor as a Doch/Berry hybrid
Anderson is a youngster who is came through our academy. Have faith in our development team.

Anderson doesn’t have the discipline and positional awareness to play that role. He’s also not reliable enough in possession to be the deep midfielder. He’s best when you let him press higher up the pitch which is from one of the advanced positions
Taylor is best when he can pick the ball up from the back 3 in the deeper role, to get on the ball more often, so he is coventrys back up. Coventry is miles better defensively though which is why Taylor can’t get a game

I think he's just not ready. Not to say he can't be. He's a baby. He could do with a spell out on loan I think
I think Jones’ future could be closely linked to that of Lloyd Jones as if Lloyd stays I think we’ll make the playoff’s but if he departs I fear the wheels could come off. I know some might say that we could replace Lloyd but I have very little faith in our recruitment team.
I think it’s just nice to enjoy the 3 wins and I hope the run continues. If Nathan is snippy after every win, let him moan away for all I care!

I’m going on how Jones uses them. Anderson has never been our deepest midfielder, he’s used to press high rather than hold his position and keep possession, two things you need in that role which he doesn’t really offer.
Taylor tends to play deeper and pick out passes rather than press high, get into the box or drift wide.

Well why play him anywhere then? He's clearly not attack minded. He's a grafter and can put a foot in. Sticking him up top because he can't pass properly seems pointless. Get him out on loan where he can work on his possession and distribution and come back a much more rounded defensive midfielder.

Put him higher up the pitch because he presses well and if he wins the ball 40 yards from goal we either have a chance to score or he gives the ball away 60 yards from our goal. Play him where Coventry is and he loses the ball and the opposition have a chance to score

You make some good points but
Fair enough 😂
I just don't think you should feel like you need to prove some kind of point (it came across this way) when from what I can tell, you're quite liked on here.
If we all agreed with eachother, it'd be really boring.
On that note, credit to Nathan Jones. We still haven't won nearly enough games, but fair play for steering the ship away from what was undoubtedly, another Charlton iceberg.
Still plenty for play for, and we need to win at least 15 of these next 24 to ensure play-offs, but we had to start again somewhere, and the last 5 games have been solid. I thought he was doomed after Crawley.
You're moodier that my ex Jones, but as long as you deliver on the pitch, I'll put up with your bollocks, just like I did in my last relationship
To be fair, I’ve stayed off of this thread, a lot, I had 1.1k unread posts.
I knew it wouldn’t be good for my head, and could be considered to be an out and out pile on, which I could do with out.
But whether you still think NJ is the right bloke for the job or not, we have still had a ridiculous amount of injuries this season, still.. some really unfortunate.
I still don’t think the squad depth has a serious amount of quality to maintain a serious promotion push, and I hope we get a few more decent quality players in, in January.
Im trying to not get stressed about Charlton, it’s important, but not the be all, and end all in life, just give the bloke time to sort stuff out.

You mean the criticism he was getting from me and others on here about how he signed no wingers and no attacking midfielders, Have been calling that out from the start of the season as it was obvious it was going to bite us on the arse and I was correct. Or me moaning about the terrible football he got the players playing!! It's taking him to the middle of December for him to realise, not good enough in my opinion. Unless we sign some wingers in Jan we are 1 or 2 injuries away from being absolute shit again. Like always whenever I moan about managers, players, owners etc I dont take pride in it and dont get a buzz from it if we lose like a lot of people on here think I may do. Definitely wanted him to go. We were playing terribly and going nowhere with no sign of improvement. The performances against Crawley and Orient were atrocious.
Digging out people who were critical of jones for the long ball tactics that wasn’t working is unfair ! Since Mansfield there has definitely been a change of game plan which is exactly what fans were calling for and results have been fantastic so maybe they were vindicated ?
Sometimes managers feel their way into a job. They try a few things until they find the right formula for that squad and that club. Hopefully that’s what’s happening here.
12 months ago Wycombe were on a 12 game winless run but they stuck with their manager and we’ve just ended their 19 game unbeaten run a year later.
It happens in football all the time and nothing good would have coming from sacking Nathan Jones in October, November or December.
I think the fellas a crank and I’ll be happy to wank him off once promotion is achieved, till then I’m gonna play hard to get but there has been a marked improvement on the utter dross that was being delivered . I said I thought anyone could do better than that earlier dross but I don’t think anyone could have matched this set of results which have earned him at least till the end of the season .
What I like is the positive players on the pitch , I’ve always fancied Berry cos you can see he has a bit of class in the attacking third where winning games take place , Leaburn we know about and I like the new improved 🥩’d up TC and shock horror no Ahadme has coincided with a decent run . I’m no big fan of KA but his energy and running was exactly what we needed yesterday at the end . Keeping the same matchday starting team/squad together and playing them for as long as he has however has been a masterstroke , I was fuming he didn’t make earlier subs v Cambridge but NJ called it how he saw it and the Wycombe result/selection fully justifies that .
Fair play to NJ it wasn’t working and he has changed the style which at the moment is working and hopefully it continues time will tell. A big test will be Crawley will the players win a game they should at a canter ?

There are very few occasions when I'd expect us to win a game at a canter because, whoever the opposition, they tend to want to win it too and will be trying. Crawley away certainly isn't one where I'd be expecting an easy ride. Far from it.

Thing is though, we don't need wingers, we need width. Not signing any wingers is fine as long as the width is coming from somewhere else, which it currently is. TC is pulling wide and running the channels with Edwards pushing into the space that creates in midfield and Small is pushing high up the right as well which is giving the midfield some room to work. We only had left over wingers under Bowyer in 18/19 and he spent all his time trying to convert them into 10s. Marshall and Fosu got played behind the strikers and then moved on asap. It didn't matter though because Lyle Taylor always pulled wide into the channels and pushed defenders about while the full backs pushed high up so the diamond midfield could operate. We could do with another very attacking RWB and an attacking midfielder to work in the space we're currently creating but getting in a load of wingers isn't going to change anything unless they're versatile as they aren't going to play on the wing

I seriously want them to make me eat humble pie and shove it back in my face however so far in all the managers and players I have called out none have been able to shut me because I have always been right
You and Callum are Yin and Yan so perhaps you are the light and dark that forum's attract and need 🤔
For 10+ plus that I've been on CL you always talk in extremes so it was no surprise but TBF to you most of us were discombobulated with the type of football being played which made all our players look worse than they probably are; Some are quite limited ! Why it took NJ 20 games to realize there's some bog standard full backs in the 3rd tier and they need exploiting is a mystery to you and me and most.
Other than ultra positive Callum, everyone on CL was posing questions about the turgid football being dealt other than the games against Bolton and Birmingham before the last 3 games and even Cambridge was mainly dire after the two gifts from the keeper but at least we did attack wider with Campbell pace ( you don't rate him) and Small can have his moments as shown against WW.
We are in agreement that if say Leaburn and Lloyd Jones get injured again, it will be mid table mediocrity for yet another season.
I'm sticking with 7th to 10th as i get too disappointed with my glass half full glass when it spills. I assume your Glass is smashed 🙁
Healthy and happy new year to all and 3 points at Crawley 🤞🏻
I don’t blame Nathan Jones for pouring 90% of his time, effort and resources over the summer into fixing our defensive structure. It clearly shows in the way we play and it’s not magically fixed in a seven day stretch of scoring goals either.
We were going nowhere fast conceding 2.5 goals a game last season. Fixing that had to be priority number one.
But, you keep a few clean sheets in a row and it only takes a couple of moments of magic to start nicking wins.
Wins against Wycombe & Cambridge, the goals didn’t appear out of free flowing attacking moves off the training pitch. But crucially, scoring two goals now wins us three points more often than not.

His short /medium passing is not too bad though, hence why he should be ahead of Anderson
Taylor is best when he can pick the ball up from the back 3 in the deeper role, to get on the ball more often, so he is coventrys back up. Coventry is miles better defensively though which is why Taylor can’t get a game
He could do with a spell out on loan I think
Just win games.
Taylor tends to play deeper and pick out passes rather than press high, get into the box or drift wide.
He's clearly not attack minded. He's a grafter and can put a foot in.
Sticking him up top because he can't pass properly seems pointless. Get him out on loan where he can work on his possession and distribution and come back a much more rounded defensive midfielder.
I just don't think you should feel like you need to prove some kind of point (it came across this way) when from what I can tell, you're quite liked on here.
If we all agreed with eachother, it'd be really boring.
I said I thought anyone could do better than that earlier dross but I don’t think anyone could have matched this set of results which have earned him at least till the end of the season .
