the rumour we paid a mill for Coventry, turned out it was nowt, hence my question, how much did we pay for Ahadme.
We need proper investment in the team to get out of this shite League...
You’ll never know for sure how much we’ve paid for an individual player. “player trading” is reported in our annual accounts but I think that’s a net sum (I.e all transfer fees received minus all transfer fees paid in the reporting period). People who tell you with certainty how much we paid for a player are 99% of the time either making it up or regurgitating information that someone else made up.

Salaries are reported in the annual accounts too, but this is on a whole company basis rather than player by player. So you can surmise from our latest accounts that we have one of the highest wage budgets in the division, but you can’t figure exactly how much we’re overpaying each of these wastes of space.
Yes you can and I have been told previously what we have paid for certain players...
Unless you’re directly involved in the transfer in question (or very, very close to someone that is) then it’ll still be hearsay. Hence we’ve had about 500 different versions of how much we paid for Ahadme, just like we had lots of different versions of how much paid (or didn’t) for Coventry.
  • If we don’t win today will he be gone by Xmas?
    sadly I doubt it.

I don’t get the feeling he’s getting the chop anytime soon. My guess is that things would have to get seriously out of hand (I.e. genuine risk of relegation).

I've been fairly adamant he has to go for a few weeks, but yesterday would be the wrong game to fire him after. The players got a deserved clap off at the end. It was a horrible game and we play terrible football, but...it would feel wrong, this time, for me.

Win the next two and we'll review
Quietly pleased with this call. But Northampton look doomed. More to do yet...
  • Yeah yeah 'we made them look doomed'

He's clearly not lost the dressing room. Hope that can be put to bed. For all our problems, commitment isn't one of them.
Perhaps. In a way though, if you are correct (I’m not convinced, I rather think they just came up against a truly awful and mentally shot side today), that is arguably even more scathing an indictment of Jones as a coach and tactician - or simply of the players abilities… if they do in fact have faith in him and have still been playing their balls off for him, then the performances and results overs the last few months are even more worrying!

one swallow a summer does not make as we saw with the rampant win at Walsall

I’m going to enjoy this type of mental gymnastics this week

  • Hopefully the win today will provide some stability going into the window that Jones will be our manager for the immediate future
  • I still think Jones is as mad as a box of frogs. An accident waiting to happen. Very welcome and for me surprising win today and long may it continue but I have my doubts.
Docherty kept talking post match about how they were convinced a big win was around the corner. Maybe they’re all as mad as each other? Or maybe there’s more going on than we see for two hours on a Saturday afternoon?
Maybe there is but if so its been going on for a bloody long time now so I'll hold off assuming any corners have been turned on the basis of one (admittedly very good) performance.

We’re playing the worst football the valley has ever seen, have only managed to beat bottom placed Burton (who had 10 men) in the last 8 league games & are on track to repeat our ‘lowest finish for 98 years’ record but the owners do not see any immediate concern??
I think Gavin Carter’s new role suggests they have concerns but expect they don’t want to keep sacking managers. We’d likely end up with an appointment part way through the transfer window which isn’t ideal.

Unless there is a dramatic turnaround in our fortunes very soon, I will be amazed if Methven, Rodwell and Scott are still at Charlton come the start of next season.

At last, it looks like you're coming around to the fact we are in trouble.
If by trouble you mean treading water in League One, I know.

If by trouble you mean relegation, you’ve been saying that the last three years…

In the last 12 game form table we are firmly in the relegation zone. It took two changes of management to get us out of this position last season.
Think we are above Northampton now (also don't think today's game did harm to the goal difference) 😉

I don't think any sane person could have watched us for the past few months and thought a big win was around the corner. We have been conceding soft goals and creating nothing in the league.

Today was a great result and a much better performance, but every bit of criticism the players and manager have got recently has been well and truly deserved.
I didn't think a big win was coming but I did think if things clicked a 2/3-0 was easily possible. We get these little flickers of quality and if they're sustained you get performances like today. Defensively we are pretty solid, even more so when the attack is on song.
  • We were fortunate that a few things came together at once, illness and injuries dictated the team selection and formation, which worked.
Added to which Northampton were very bad and ripe for a hammering.

However sometimes it takes fate and a bit of luck to turn fortunes around, and we should take it, and use it as a springboard for the rest of the season.

There have been a few little signs over the past couple of weeks that Jones is trying to be more positive in how we play, included some nice through balls and forward runs from midfielders etc.
Until yesterday we rarely if ever managed to get in behind a defence and pull the ball back.
Berry and Mitchell both did it yesterday and we scored each time.
Some encouraging signs are finally emerging.
