It shouldn’t escape notice that the two wins we’ve had recently have been against two abysmal sides. You can only beat what’s put in-front of you, but frequently we don’t. It was great to have something to celebrate last night - and a 5-0 win in the league should always be celebrated regardless of the opposition. But we must follow it up with wins over the next couple of matches, in very winnable games, to make it really mean something.

He's clearly not lost the dressing room. Hope that can be put to bed. For all our problems, commitment isn't one of them.
I'm absolutely convinced that the squad hated the style of play Jones has made them play all season. Not only was it crap to watch, crap to play (no doubt) and ineffective.

The last two matches we have got the ball on the deck and passing with purpose and accuracy. The players appear to be enjoying it now, and the fans will for sure.

Perhaps we will pick up fewer injuries too?

It’s going to take a lot more than spanking the league’s whipping boys for me to get the humble pie out of the freezer. But it’s a start.  Because of the manager or in spite of him?  Who knows. He’s probably bought himself another transfer window and a few months.

Give the bloke some time. When it clicks, which I hope was  yesterday, we will have a great chance if getting promoted.
Let's see over the next few games if we can keep performing l.

Too much manager sacking when things don't look rosy in my opinion. Enjoy the journey and the lows make you appreciate the highs even more.
  • He’s like a spoilt child/parent who can see that their little Cnut can do no wrong , remove the shit from your eyes and take on justified criticism and 95% of it has been , work to improve and get on with it . The truth hurts
Yesterday was amazing and well done to NJ and the players

Hopefully we may have turned the corner now. NJ asked the team for a performance and they scored 5. All he needs to do is ask for the same every game and we'll storm up the table ;-)

Great result. Manager gets some credit for it from me. Happy for him to still be in post for the Cambridge game on the back of it. If he can get us challenging for top six, I don't care what he has to say about the fans as I won't take it to heart anyway. I just want him to manage us to winning games more frequently. The rest is background noise.

It’s shows the real nature of this shite league that Charlton are anywhere near still being in the hunt for top six. Four adrift of sixth with a game in hand. That looks very doable until you scrutinise just how bloody awful we’ve actually been. The results have been shocking and bordering in some cases on downright embarrassing and the performances match perfectly with that. Don’t see this group of players suddenly turning the season so far on its head. I’ve said it on the window thread that Jones is basically happy with the squad as is and there won’t be much happening in January to get us excited. I’ll stick by that. Of course this is football so anything is possible but does anyone really believe based on yesterday’s rogue result that we’re actually top six material ? I’d love to be wrong of course I would but what ive seen so far screams mediocrity and until we change four or five players and possibly manager I think that’s exactly what we are and will continue to be.

  • This is literally one result. The previous few alone were awful (and actually more). Mansfield, (orient), Crawley, Lincoln.

to even start to think about a corner having been turned is grossly premature. Come back in 7 or 8 games if we’ve put 5 or 6 wins/ strong performances in. At the moment we have 1 win/good performance in about 10, or 2 or 3 in 20. Corners aren’t turned in an afternoon.

We’ve not shown enough this season but the style of play definitely wasn’t getting the best out of anyone other than some of defenders.

We don’t concede many and keep games tight, there’s not a lot in it. Playing more football gives this squad a better chance than hoofball did.

Jones talked in August about improving every window, I can’t see another big rebuild but I don’t think 1-3 signings will be out of the question.

why has it taken him so long to realise this (has he actually realised this?)? If you want to succeed as a manager you can’t spend half a season before realising or adapting to clear problems

Individual performances do nothing to get you into a good position in the league. What you need is consistency, another win or two in the next few games and maybe we've started to turn the corner.

Back to type? Then it was just a blip against a very poor team.

Ramseys fitness or otherwise might be a consideration for RWB incoming but apart from that a couple of loans is what I see. I don’t see a marquee signing of a player too good to miss out on happening because that rarely does in January.

Stubbornness and confidence in his beliefs I would guess. Not all managers do adapt so it’s a good sign he appears to have moved on from being such a direct team.

Not expecting a marquee signing, but January could be a good time to pick up a player with 6 months left on their contract for a small fee, as we did with Ramsay. Coventry joined for nothing up front, and Small became available after Southampton released him at the end of the window. Those are the type of signings I imagine we’ll hope for, rather than paying out big fees.

If the corner is turned then half a season (in reality this bad run has been about a quarter of a season in length) will be nothing in the grand scheme of things.

If he chopped and changed after 3-5 poor results he’d be pegged as a manager that doesn’t have a plan and panics if it isn’t working.
  • For the first time yesterday, I could see how Jones envisaged where the creativity would actually come from.
Berry was buzzing around and seemed to have gained a yard in pace. Docherty was following up, scored 2, and made some surging runs.
TC and Leaburn were combining well, creating and scoring.
It was like the shackles had been removed.
Whether all that was just due to a poor opposition or not, remains to be seen.

My view on football is always that if you have no threat going forwards, all other departments of the team are pissing in the wind - i don't just mean strikers. Although i've only seen the hilights, i'm sure that finally having the mobility of tyreece, small and leaburn all on the pitchg at once and at the top end, provided the midfield with a lot more to aim at. Nothing worse for a midfielder than having an immobile forward line and / or no pace out wide. Where do you go with the ball other than backwards or up in the air, particularly if you can't run with the ball yourself? We have to add some more pace and flair in the window and offload some of the 'stodge' if we can and keep giving ourselves a chance of threatening - other than kanu. who else can drag a defence around / out of position? That is and has been the problem and hopefully deep down Jones knows that - if he don't, we're screwed.

Certainly not buying into the nonsense that giving someone a hiding was coming.
I (jokingly) said on the match thread that with the way we've been playing recently someone was due a thrashing but didn't realise anyone actually thought this?!

There has definitely been a change in approach from the manager you can tell that by the amount of long balls we have been trying to play the last few games it’s significantly less. Hopefully he has realised that we won’t win many games that way as all we are doing is playing to the strengths of the lesser teams in this league as any half decent CB can deal with high balls chucked at Ahadme easily. I honestly don’t care if NJ has done it himself or if he was warned by the SMT whatever the cause we have a chance at the playoffs if we stick to trying to play football

…& have a strong xmas period / transfer window.

The next two weeks are crucial! (I’m hoping we have a top notch play maker lined up)

I think that had a lot to do with it for sure, but it's noticeable that the game plan does seem to have changed and we are not just hitting it long all the time. If we can follow it up with 2 more wins over Christmas then maybe we will have turned a corner at last.

Still not convinced, he beat a team who are in woeful form and without a manager.

Win 5 in a row, then give some back to the fans. The little pops back are pathetic.

There was nothing wrong with his post match interview.

    He himself said…

”we need to follow this up & ensure Cambridge isn’t a damp squid”

    &

”he’s happy for the fans who were magnificent & created a great atmosphere”

Didn’t see any pops at the fans at all in what he said yesterday.

More or less the first words he said were "we've had a lot of criticism, some justified, some not"

As soon as he said that I switched off. Can't be fucked with that. You win 1 in 9 league games in this division, you're lucky you ain't sacked, let alone criticised. Especially with a transfer window and a pre-season to address it all.

Let's see where we are after the next 2 games, which are both very winnable home games.
  • Wycombe game will be difficult but agree we need a min 8/9 points from the 4 games between now & 4th Jan.
