There are lots of stray cats that live in Peckham and one in particular would wander into our garden from time to time. When he showed up we’d give him some food and if the weather was rubbish he’d sleep inside. Anyway, I finished work at about 8pm a couple of weeks ago and when I can downstairs I noticed he was not only inside the house (we have a cat flap that uses when he fancies) but curled up really tightly in a ball, which is unusual as he normally lounges sprawled out wherever he fancies!On closer inspection on of his paws was swollen to about four times the size of the others and he wasn’t responding to touch (normally he’s really affectionate) so we quickly got him to the vets round the corner who had us sign a form confirming that he was a stray, didn’t belong to us, and we had no rights to him. At the same time we also indicated that, once he was healed, we would be willing to adopt him (otherwise he goes to a shelter, as they can’t just release him back into the street).
A week or so later they called to say that, unfortunately, the infection in the paw he had was pretty bad and they had to amputate the back right leg to save him. Despite this he was making a good recovery and they wanted to know if we’d still be willing to adopt, which of course we were!So, after just over two weeks at the vets he came home with us three weeks ago and is acclimatising really well. As a stray/feral cat he roamed over a pretty large area (we’d fairly regularly see him running around in the streets when we were staggering back from the pub late at night!) and he can’t go outside now, and probably never will be able to, which is a big change for him. But he’s still very mobile, enjoys watching football with me on the sofa and treats our bed as his!
So this is our new friend, Roger the three legged cat!

Binky.Easter Friday 2023 wifey was on her way home after a few drinks and heard a meow from inside some bushes. Tiny kitten left in there. Decided to take it home. Obviously just temporarily, but Binky is still here 18 months later. She’s not 100% between the ears we think. But we love her (when she doesn’t piss on the couch…).11 -

Shep (collie/springer) used to go walkabout (never managed to build a fence that would keep him in come April, even though his bits had been removed) and return a couple of hours later reeking of fox and/or badger. Took our Cockerpoo Bertie up to the rugby field today, very well behaved until he found some nice Fox poo to dive into and roll on. So back home for an unscheduled shower, shampoo and dryer session. I swear he only did it to pay us back for leaving him behind, when we went out for lunch earlier. You could almost see the malevolent gleam in his eye as he did it.1

Ketchup is your friend. Leave it on the affected area for 5-10 mins then wash off with doggy shampoo. The acids etc in it counteract the shite and get rid of the smell. However your dog may end up with a slightly pink/red tint in the affected area.Wheresmeticket said:

Having lasted through a long, cat-less summer, at the start of October we caved in and got these two little terrors!
Jet, on the left, is the brave and inquisitive one. Pepper, on the right, is the quieter, more sensitive little soul.
We've had them nearly two months now and they've more than doubled in size and taken over the house. Love them both to bits! Unfortunately, this is the best photo I've managed to get of them as one of the drawbacks of being all black is that it's really hard to get good photos!9 -
@Rizzo, there's something about black and black & white cats. They have such a loving nature about them.

All three have settled in now. Think we've had them six months or so.
Having said that about their loving nature, their kill list would make you think otherwise. With our two previous cats, they were getting on in life and only occasionally would bring something in.Last 2 months or so, we've came downstairs to find 5 dead mice but worst of all, they'd taken out a pidgeon and left it right by the cat flap outside. That wasnt fun to deal with.
Mon night, while we was having dinner, I could see Milo and Kit Kat were playing with something and then I saw it run. Managed to capture the little mouse and save it from them. Then at bedtime, with the Xmas lights on in the garden, I could see Lilly was laying weirdly on the lawn and then she sprung up. Then saw a mouse run across the path. I felt obliged to go out and rescue it too. The poor thing was petrified and was shaking like mad.
Not sure what we can do about stopping it, its in their nature isnt it?!7 -
Bless 'em! Ours aren't allowed outside yet. They've had their vaccinations but the op for their microchips and to have their lady bits attended to is not for another couple of weeks (Friday 13th in fact, good thing I'm not superstitious!). I fully expect Jet to immediately become a serial killer as she gets that crazed look in her eyes.1

We lost our dog back in July and decided that we wouldn’t get another. Losing Tinks was just too horrible. That’s until a couple of weeks ago when we brought home Maple, a Cockerpoo and we’re feeling complete again. Dogs are such joyous creatures.

Dogs and cats are what make a home a home rather than a house. And I hear you @ShootersHillGuru the thought of replacing part of the family is too raw however having love for something that isn't the same species as us and that husbandry is what separates us from the animals and I'm really glad you have got a new companion. I love black cats, we had one as a kid growing up (my parents are Scottish and black cats are considered lucky there, not sure that had anything to do with it though!). Valli will be tested this afternoon, Forest school an area of the fields where the children can be children.Playing in the mud, studying nature and just being children and getting filthy, today Valli will be joining them.
Valli associates that area with “off lead” playtime out of school hours and not “on lead” work with children so we’ll see how she copes.
An hour ago we spent some time with the young lad I’ve mentioned before, Bowyer although so gentle with him was a little confused by some of the autistic traits shown by the lad, he gently licked his hand to much hilarity and the lad said “Good boy Bow, so gentle “ the five minutes turned into 20 as he showed a passing teacher how to stand Bowyer, again met with rapturous laughter and my gentle flick of Bow’s lead went undetected by both the lad and staff.He then said “up, down, up, down” in machine gun style of course Bow was confused and gave him a head tilt, which was met with more laughter.

As I said, on Thursday our Therapy dog Valli went outside into the school field to meet the children in the Forest school like a little nature reserve.
This area is where SEN children get a chance to relax and study nature and get muddy.
The school released to me some photos, one of which I’ll reproduce onto a canvass and gift to the school for Christmas.Enjoy.
