We already have young strikers with potential.2 -
May choosing Brum over Huddersfield could have a massive impact on their current 37484 game unbeaten run coming to an end16

But still think selling a guaranteed 20+ goals a season striker is a massive gamble and if that doesn’t work out I’ll certainly be blaming the SMT and Jones. And all that guff about being with his family in Yorkshire looks like a load of bollocks now.
He could have definitely lived with his family and commuted to Hudds.
But if Brum come in and offer to double your wages for the next (probably your last) 3 years I think the majority would take that offer and try and make the logistics work as best as possible,3 -

Had the pleasure of meeting Alfie twice during the season. The first time was out in Malaga when he couldn’t have been any nicer. A quiet, unassuming lad. Softly spoken and no airs or graces about him (could honestly say the same for all the lads that trip). The 2nd time was off the train from Wycombe, when we bumped into him, George & REG. @guinnessaddick asked if Alf would pose for a picture with me as I’d backed him for top scorer at the start of the season. He was happy to do so and with a wry smile, he just said “it’s really nice that someone had some faith in me”.No point trying to understand Jones’ decision, but I hope that the £11k figure is correct. He didn’t seem driven by money (he chose us in the first place, for God’s sake), but delighted for him if it’s true and gives him and his family a great safety net for when his career finishes. Best of luck, Alfie.34

… Alfie May was prepared to stay at Charlton Athletic this summer but was essentially eased out of the door by manager Nathan Jones,1 -

Athletico Charlton said:CBT sold, Dobson no deal agreed and left, May being sold.
Leaburn, Small and Z.Mitchell all in the last year of their contracts with no new ones agreed.
What does Andy Scott actually do to fill his time up I wonder.3 -
Call this cope or whatever but May is not a 'guaranteed' 20-goal striker. Three seasons running doesn't 'guarantee' a fourth. Also, he just isn't our best player (Leaburn probably is)21

Oh well, at least we might get Ahadme, who scored twice against *checks* Michael Hector and Terrell Thomas. Wow, what a replacement1

I'm so glad we have owners with money & serious ambitions....so much so we dont have to sell our best players & can recruit meaningfully and with purpose.8

"Heard May will be on 11k a week at Birmingham, can’t compete with that, should have gotten the deal over the line sooner"...
Sounds like a good offer from Brum...if true...🤷♂️
One letter (then rearranged) can make quite a difference here!
Deathly silent on the rumour front. The club have worked hard to keep everything under wraps. I know we were keen on Etete, Ahadme, Davies. We did look at Lolos formerly of Crawley but we went off him fairly quickly.
There's a trialist over from Mount Pleasant apparently but no idea who that is
And one other mystery player who has a lot of rave reviews but who is very raw at the moment. I'm sworn to secrecy on him so as not to jeopardise anything but I wouldn't think he's necessarily lined up as a starter just yet anyway.
I am going to assume, we went off him because Bolton were interested and he would rather have gone there? That's usually what happens unless it's outside football reasons I.e. they want to live nearer family.
A trialist from Mount Pleasant, who let's be honest, likely won't be good enough to make an immediate impact, and then a mystery player that won't start, when we already have talented players that shouldn't quite be starting anyway, along with selling our best player.
Just have to laugh sometimes.10 -
I’m in no way suggesting status or ability are anywhere close in this comparison but one of Guardiola’s biggest decisions was to drop and subsequently sell Joe Hart who was an ever present the previous season and England’s number one. He did this to accommodate a new keeper who would play in the style he wanted - Hart, despite his ability, did not fit the manager’s way of playing.
We have to accept that we have a manager now who is taking responsibility; who is saying the buck stops with him and to trust him. Most of us have been hugely frustrated with transfer windows spanning a decade and now we at least have someone who is taking some ownership of who we sign.
The May decision is one which Jones knows will be unpopular and will haunt him should it not work. But, if he doesn’t see May as being able to play in the system he wants them why keep
him? May wouldn’t want that or accept it and who would blame him?
The manager has to win in such a situation and will be judged by it. Jones knows that.9 -

page 214. Summary - A manager that has failed in his his last 2 jobs, with a record of W4, L2, D10 deserves unwavering 100% support…A team that finished 16th have lost their Captain and Top Scorer. May is not a guaranteed 20 goal a season striker, doing it 3x doesn’t guarantee a 4th. Anyone who is concerned about the above is a bedwetter or suicidal or frenzied hair on fire alarmists who don’t see the bigger picture. Meanwhile, reality check, to settle the nerves we have actually signed a reserve GK, a reserve LB, a CH and a 31 year old Midfielder. With the expectation of another 5/6 signings it doesn’t matter how many “twist yourself into a pretzel” classes I attend, I still have some serious reservations about where we are and what the final picture will look like, but as at today, given where we are, I don't see that the team we could put out now is any better than the one that finished last season, is very short of goals and is certainly not in danger of top half. Let’s hope the plan comes together, Jones works miracles, we get goals and talent through the door, HMS piss the league is in full sail, with the wind, the valley is buzzing and we are set for Championship football…..but forgive me for my cautious pessimism, but as always time will tell and is often the pudding in which the proof is found. None of us can stand much more of this cringeworthy mediocrity marooned in the dark depths of the football ladder.22
