We have had poor fortune with a lot of loans, with the additional aspect being they can get in the way of our developing players if they are simply hanging around.
I think one way of looking at loans is if we ask why the parent club would loan them out. If it is like what we would do with Zach Mitchell then good, if it is like what we would do with Scott Fraser, then not good.1 -
Charlton to outbid Oxford in chase for Coventry striker Matt Godden writes Alan Nixon13

Shame really like May only him and Dobson were shinning light in our worst ever season.Just hope it works out for us again.
Do you mean realised he was at the end of his career before a free transfer to Gillingham?0 -

Alan Nixon is about as reliable as a broken clock10 -

I was more concerned with the lack of goals last season from midfield and set pieces .
One (ageing) midfielder that's all. Yes I know it's only the end of June but even Jones said that he'd like his squad assembled by the start of pre-season. Which is now. Yes, I know some transfers take longer than others & yes, there is still 2 months of the transfer window to go, but the players are off on their training camp & it would he nice to have your pivotal players in from the start.0 -

It takes a lot more than Alfie May to get promoted.
And then losing your top 2 players for goals & assists, and your best defensive midfielder without yet being replaced.
There is a lot of work to be done before you can say we are anywhere near a top 6 side. Especially as Jones has said on a couple if occasions that he was hoping to have the squad complete (or almost complete) by this time. Maybe he's happy where we are.1 -

He had one season at Gillingham before retiring
Ronnie Moore also left the club at the end of that season.John Pearson was 21 when bought by Lennie from Sheffield Wednesday for £100,000
Even though John got sold to Leeds for £70,000 during the following season he had done the job with his goals to help in our promotion.Another Lennie masterpiece1 -

With Kanu and Leaburn here I doubt we want another young striker but he could be one we’ve looked at.2 -
Alfie May scores goals. That is what he is all about. When he is not scoring goals he can look like a schoolboy, desperate to score a goal wandering all over the place. You can feel the desperation. But when he is scoring goals he scores all sorts of goals and it is a great asset to the side IMO. Jones may want more discipline in the side in terms of playing to his orders/instruction. I may be wrong but I can see that might be the issue with Jones. Maybe he doesn't think he can tame May. I still wouldn't have wanted to sell him but I suppose all of you lot would prefer Jones in charge to me so we have to go with the plan and hope it works.1

OK, Brum is closer to Doncaster than Snodland but it's not exactly the easy commute that Huddersfield is.

Alfie May does have a Dale Stephens SATNAV so don't rule out Plymouth.0 -

I was beginning to wonder whether Alfie is a bit troublesome in the dressing room and doesn't get on with the other players.its exactly the same as last year, why could we buy him for 250k, why do champ clubs not want him, maybe he has attitude problem not jones.
He’s a goal scorer and a personality - that’s it! He is limited in his ability in every other part of his game, physically, technically and tactically lacking.
NJ wants a more complete profile of player for whatever his vision of our system & style will be.Don’t get me wrong, his goals have been important for us, I’d prefer if he stayed but not overly fussed if he doesn’t.
Looking forward to it all unfolding!4 -
Just in case this hasn’t been mentioned, Alfie May scores goals. Scored over 60 the past 3 seasons.
Has this been considered and repeated for 20 pages and more, I don’t think so!5 -

Jesus I want to know what @golfaddick did when we sold Darren Bent. Have you only just started going back to the Valley to watch games again after that ban?1

hopefully we can pull out some decent replacements from the money we look likely to be receiving. Rest assure any money coming in will be spent on the team
Swisdom, you reported what 99% of CL posters would've done with having Alfie as a neighbour and your inside track of CAFC.
Keep up the good work 👏🏼
Despite many Charlton fans and critics being discombobulated with May moving on I believe you should be happy that you won't have to replace any more windows when he emulates his off-drive for 6 during the summer months.
My Nephew is the British number 3 hammer thrower and he is looking to buy in your area.

with the 1st friendly at the end of the week and just before the squad travel for their training camp lets hope we have the majority of the new players in place, especially strikers if/when Alfie goes1

Was there any word on who the other free agent that has been training with us? I know Teddy Bishop was mentioned as one.0

Yes indeed:
The first two GB throwers are decent but my nephew Henry throws the hammer a long way but not always in the right direction.10 -
If my new neighbour is in the habit of chucking hammers about, I don't want him moving in that close to my house.5
