I was sat in the Criterion theatre falling asleep watching some wanky (I’m not educated enough for this shit ) version of Merchant of Venice, wear that Shakespeare you West Country mug, no interest doing it for my O-levels or now . Drifting in and out of sleep/confusion but only really interested in the vibrating phone I was sitting on .
Sounds like it was easier to watch through vibration than on the telly .
Fair play to Kanu and Bakinson decent finish by Kanu and good take down by Bakinson and quality from Small with the assist for Alfie .
butter fingers really has to be holding on to that and as above don’t want either as no.1 next season if we’re serious re promotion .
this win gives us breathing space but it’s not done till it’s done .
well done to the 629 who made the trip , you got your reward .

Brilliant result I think we can all look forward to the rest of the season
If only NJ had been here from the off we would be fighting for a playoff place rather then avoiding relegation

Watching it on the TV, I saw a big sign saying "Completely Suzuki stadium". To the left was "Completely kawasaki corner" and to the right "Completely yamaha corner" (I'm assuming Honda was on the same side as the camera?).
I'm not sure they understand the meaning of the word COMPLETELY.

Football quality is completely irrelevant in our current position.

That aerial tennis in the first 15 minutes was a dire watch, but I rather liked the fact that we went toe to toe and gave them a scrap - a scrap they possibly wasn't expecting. We're not Arsenal, we're not Man City, we are Charlton Athletic, currently languishing at the bottom of League One. That belligerence is exactly what is required imo.
When the ball was on the ground we were evidently better than them, should have scored more of course, but at least chances were created and that bodes well when you consider some of the games this season, where we've created nothing.
I know everyone is pleased with the result, I was quite pleased with the performance too - well I mean it'll do very nicely for now - and I am strangely optimistic - mmmm hope no one spiked my cocoa last night

First 17 minutes I was watching a League 1 relegation battle. Head tennis and hoof ball; then like a miracle Dobson gave a short pass to Coventry who put a lovely pass to the impressive Tennai Watson on the right who measured a pass into the six yard box and Daniel Kanu finished with aplomb.
18 mins 1-0 up and then Cafc started to mix and match with balls played on the ground and long passes into the willing runs of Kanu and May. Alfie could and should've had a 1st half hat trick, Small had a storming game but missed a headed chance from a cross from the strong left foot of Gillesphey. The game should've been out of sight as we created a myriad of chances but Alfie May going though a lean spell just couldn't get his radar correct.
Small and Watson getting down both flanks and crossing well meant we dominated the remaining 30 minutes of time in the 1st half.
Conor Coventry is becoming a major player for Cafc which was good as Anderson had an off night on the ball but was still busy out of possession, and Dobson was decent but suddenly not the main man BUT the long ball to the chest of Bakinson who suddenly thought he was a striker and a cool finish ensued and Tyreeq had netted just his 12 goal in 152 appearances but a very crucial goal in the 'six pointer match'
A slip let in Small who squared the ball to Alfie who this time couldn't miss and no one deserved the goal more than May who has given everything for the cause this season.
3-1 away win which without Profligate finishing would've seen a tennis score: 6-1
Most important win considering if Cheltenham had won they were 1 point behind with games in hand; we won and are 7 points clear with a vastly better goal difference.
Nathan Jones it's your gig and your shout who starts and which 11 end the match.
3-1 win in a results business means NJ was right, whatever...

Was worried when they pulled it back to 4 - 3 after we were 4 - 1 ahead but into the semi-final we go.
Heard the reserves won away 3 - 1 which is good news too. Their new boss has got us on a good run and with more games played that should mean fewer midweek games so more rest and more chance for Jones the coach to do some coaching.
Three more wins should see them safe now.

A really good all round team performance.
The youngsters are really shining,
The defence looks a lot better and steadier.
A nice weighted guidance from Kanu for the first goal.
A lovely, lovely pass from Dobbo for Bakinson’s goal.
Thierry Small a stand-out signing and wonderfully selflessly passing to Alfie for his well-deserved goal (however, I can’t help but think that the Alfie of earlier this season would have put us 3-up by halftime).

Interesting point, because Bowyer used to do that all the time and towards the end it didn't seem to work. Some thoughts. I think with Anderson, there were a few things at play. Firstly, Cheltenham play a direct style like us except they seem to have slightly more power and significantly less skill. That probably didn't suit his game. Secondly, he has put in some real shifts and maybe he needed a rest and lastly, it can happen with young players and it all adds to his experience.
I thought Taylor had a great game for them and caused us real problems and it was a big blow for them him going off. My confidence in us not losing the game and consequently winning it grew from that moment. Given it was a hamstring injury, this could have a big impact in their fight for survival.
Given our style combined with their style, it was probably never going to be a great game for the purists but I enjoyed it. There were a fair number of chances and we had the best of them. I like our style as we can still put together moves like we did for the first but there is no farting about asking players to do things they are not comfortable with.
Small and Coventry have been excellent signings and Bakinson looked good when he came on. It is showing we can make good signings. We do have to be wary concerning the lad as he is very young, but Kanu is really developing his game. He is developing into a player we, or any league one rival, could never afford to buy and is clearly now the first striker name on the teamsheet and that is amongst May and Ladapo. A good omen for next season?
Lastly, the ref let a lot of fouls go, not favouring one side above another, which is typical for the league and to my mind highlights the advantages of playing the way NJ has got us playing. To show our quality, we have to win enough of the battles.7 -
Second half was frantic, end to end football with both sides looking for a goal. Even though the quality wasn’t always there from either side, it was good to see.pettgra said:Lovely lovely result. Their goalkeeper was awful. They could have come away with a draw if had a semi decent keeper.
Some could argue that the Bakinson sub timing was perfect as he was more advanced and scored the winner. (I felt a HT sub was coming).
Have we established why Alfie got a yellow? Be great if he gets 20 goals this season and maybe trying too hard, aswell as slightly lacking some confidence in front of goal. I would have preferred him to celebrate us sealing a vital win, rather than pay respect to Cheltenham, but such is football.
If we are aiming for a small squad, I do fear with our injuries.0 -

He hasn't known what to do since he scored 2 pens against them at the Valley in November. Opta stats says he is in the 1 goal per 10 shots zone, and you can see why, shoots straight at the keeper (no thought or panicking).He used to shoot early and catch defenders and keepers out and that's seems to have stopped.Thers no guile or nouse about his play- the cleverness that sits a defender on his backside.Add to that lack of contribution to build up play, no hold up play, now he is taking too many touches (and the wrong kind), heavy touches, plus nil contribution to defending.Closing down he does is ineffectual ( so far) as it carries no threat. We will have to build a team of heavies around him to make it work. I hope his form returns to the end of the season, then NJ will have to think whether to extend his contract .If we want promotion next season, either build team around him, or make him bit part player. The Cheltenham goalie Southwood was a sweeper keeper who loved to play outside his area. He was good with his feet and in the air but found it heavy going and wasn't at the races on the ground!1
