Damp Tuesday in Cheltenham, come away with a 1-3 win.
Some positives - Small is f***in mustard being one.
Some criticism - Isted not making a better job of dealing with initial shot before their goal being one.

But, it is what it is, 3 points away from home.

Bring on Crewe on Saturday 💪 👏
So we have been relegated to League 2?

But Isted is a piss mile better than AMB !?? Maybe we need a new keeper !!??  And Carlisle Saturday ??
  • Scrappy win.. previously that could have been a 90+5 Goal Cheltenham.

Hoping we can wallop someone in the next week or so, feels like it’s coming.

Don’t laugh but with 9 matches to play, I can see us winning six of those with this new found belief. Already looking forward to next season.

Sorry but going to be critical of NJ.

Young Corey had an absolute nightmare tonight.  His passing was just awful. He should have been taken off at least 20 minutes before he was. And as soon as Bakinson came on things improved.

Huge shout outs to Small - his fitness and athletism was unreal tonight. Sign him up now please - Coventry and Tennai Watson - considering he is playing with an injury he was very good.

Hopefully we are nearly safe now.
I agree... BUT that's probably the first decision that you could call as a real mistake. And given how well Anderson has done recently I don't think anyone expected him to drop off quite so dramatically.

Jones gets much much more right than wrong. I'm sure he'll be as disappointed as anyone that it didn't work out on this occasion.
Or Jones gets more right than wrong? He does mix things up and rotates the squad !??

Really enjoyed that. First away day win since Reading August 2019. Anyone know why NJ was booked after they scored?

Good to chat to @Airman Brown and tried to gate crash one of @Braziliance’s interviews outside the ground at the end.

    Fucking get in there!!

First task is to pick up 3 or 4 more wins to guarantee safety. second task to finish above 14th which is where we finished in 1973/74. Our worst season statistically since World War 2.

Will get my two negatives of the night out the way -

It has already  been mentioned by various people but the fact Karoy Anderson was out there for that long was criminal. Should have been subbed off at half time but instead was kept on and gave away the ball for their goal. I know Karoy has been a breath of fresh air so far but today was a step too far for him and should’ve been dealt with earlier than what it did.

Isted - not good enough, might have had a couple of solid games but just doesn’t fill anyone with confidence, punched a ball out into danger that first half which should have easily been caught and then that shot should have been dealt with better . Neither he or amb are good enough for next season

    The Positives…

Tennai Watson - looked a completely different player today, jones is getting the best out of him further forward.

Thierry small - what a signing, will only get better and better which is frightening.

Daniel Kanu - it’s remarkable how much his hold up play is improving. Developing far quicker than I expected and can certainly nail a starting spot next season for sure.

Conor Coventry - this kid is the real deal, really footballing brain who is showing his true class. Sounds like nathan jones has given him the kick up the backside he needed.

We finished 13th in Powell’s first season… we know what happened the next year.

Cheltenham were always gonna go mental second half, they’re fighting for their lives but even tho we were off it, we stayed competitive and the quality come through.

There’s enough there to think we could have a decent go next season.
I’d have to disagree. That squad needs a big overhaul for top six next season let alone top two.

KA yes needed a rest but we have to remember his age !? Goal at Northampton was class !!

Isted is best we have e.g. better and quicker distribution than AMB  but yes we need a better keeper !!

What a scrappy game! As someone else said we could have won 6-1 or lost it! Coventry and Watson need shooting for their goal,,,but ironically, both have made a difference since NJ's arrival as manager. Nice finish by Kanu. Next year, I don't want Isted in goal.

Woeful finishing first half which could have cost us and the defence looked iffy at times. However, a win is a win and we would have lost that pre NJ. Thought Karoy could have done with a rest tonight with the shifts he’s put in in recent weeks and if Camera was fit he might have got it but with Bakinson the only real option I can see why NJ stuck with Anderson. Small was outstanding, carry that on for the rest of the season and we need to tie him to a longer deal. REG too, looking very assured and composed so let’s hope he’s ok. Coventry is now living up to the hype, very assured performance. Kanu and May both put in a shift although Alfie’s finishing was very off. Daniel took his goal well. Dobbo had an off day, overshadowed by Coventry. Thought Gillesphey and Thomas were ok. Watson is improving but think long term Ramsay will be the answer.

One downside was Isted. Responsible for two dropped points on Saturday, was at fault for their goal tonight, should have easily held on to that shot. If we have ambitions of top six next season we need better than him or AMB.

I agree with all of this, except I thought Gillesphey was very good, His left foot gets it a long way up the pitch.

Who else thought they were going to go on and win once they equalised. A good first half where we should have been out of sight marred by a poor second half where at times we couldn't string two passes together.

But credit in the end they kept battling away and got their reward, unlike at Northampton Saturday.

    Onwards and upwards.

Who’d have had seven points from three back to back away games before the end of the season on their bingo cards when Appleton was sacked?

Bit harsh, Large? Don’t get that at all. Anderson was dire (after several great performances) and Bakinson was exactly the sort of player to come on and steady the ship.
He took his goal really well, and I think he’s got into a goal scoring positions in every game he’s played in, so well deserved. He’s not flashy but he’s reliable imho.
I’m now worried we’ll lose Small in the summer. He looks a level above.
With Small, REG, Jones, Gillesphey and Ramsay/Watson we have what might well develop into a very solid defence under NJ. Coventry is improving with every game and I’m less worried about losing Dobson now.
There was a 25 minute period in the second half which I thought was the worst we’d played under Jones (since Reading), but it looked like the players knew how massively important it was not to lose, and got very nervous.
Hopefully we’ll see an upturn in performance now we’re easing away from the relegation zone?

Hope we rest young Anderson on Saturday. He just needs a rest.

The job that NJ has done is nothing short of remarkable.

Six weeks ago Appleton was taking this team down.

If anybody moans that Anderson, Kanu or ANOTHER teenager has not had a great game.... get a grip!

They are teenagers and have literally been a key part in stopping us getting relegated.

Jones has proven that, with a semi decent squad, and a half decent manager, anything is possible

I say it now, 100% confident it stands a chance....

Nathan Jones gets us promoted next season
    We have our Charlton back
I vow to attend more games than ever next season
Thank you the "money men" and whoever else pushed for Jones
    We'd be dead without him......
    I disagree with this logic.

Anderson is a great prospect and has been excellent under Jones, but tonight he was poor. That's not doing him down or writing him off, that's being dispassionate about it. Tonight was a game too far, as he's played a lot of minute recently, and we had a ready made replacement on the bench in Bakinson, someone I would have started with.

he’s a better man than me. As soon as I heard the boos I would’ve given it bigguns after scoring
And being on a booking i expect that's exactly the reason why his celebrations were muted.

Looking at the table 13th is really going to be the highest we finish. Northampton and Bristol Rovers are 8 points ahead of us with 1 & 2 games in hand respectively. Even with bad form I'd expect them to finish in the mid to upper 50's, points wise. To get 12th we'd need another 15-18 points......so probably 5 wins & a couple of draws. That's pushing it to say it mildly.

    Think we'll get 52-54 points & end up 14-16th.

Now 14th. But every team has at least 1 game in hand over us.
But most of them play each other which is a huge advantage. Plus our goal difference is so much better than anyone else.

MOTM for me was Tennai Watson. He looks a completely different player under Jones. Kanu and Coventry close seconds.

Small needs to be tied down to a longer contract as others have already said.
