Whilst I completely agree, history suggests that Southgate won't consider that the case.sam3110 said:
Rice should be a good enough holding midfielder to play 2 more adventurous midfielders with him. Bellingham as the box to box and someone like Maddison as the most advanced midfielder I think would be fineLaddick01 said:We really need someone to claim that 3rd midfield role.Going in with either Henderson or Phillips is going to be trouble.1 -
England have allowed three shots on target during Euro 2024 qualifying. All three have resulted in goals scored.

For all the talent we've got this lineup has:
Trippier - out of position
Maguire - never plays
Phillips - never plays
Stones - only just coming back from injury
Rashford - seriously out of form
Basically we're relying on Bellingham, Kane and possibly Foden to do something.1 -
Foden wouldnt be starting if Saka was fitChris_from_Sidcup said:For all the talent we've got this lineup has:

Dion Dublin.
Why?5 -
Because we persevere with Pickford, who I have never rated, and has spent the last couple of seasons in a dogshit Everton team.Callumcafc said:England have allowed three shots on target during Euro 2024 qualifying. All three have resulted in goals scored.1 -

Maguire didn't get close enough to the first man. If he does, he clears that cross.
Trippier at left back
Sigh2 -
Thats Bellingham for you... Ridiculous the Italians are complaining about that - Blatant penalty0

Can't understand why this review is taking so long?1

How is it only a yellow card? - Because of double jeopardy?1

Get in yessssss0

Not a goalscoring opportunity either was it?ForeverAddickted said:How is it only a yellow card? - Because of double jeopardy?
It's a penalty, but let's not gloss over the fact that most of the time these players are taking a 20 yard touch in these situations1 -
Normal service resumed.

Ludicrous. What could they possibly have been looking for?Laddick01 said:Can't understand why this review is taking so long?0 -
And 2 of them combine for the penalty.Chris_from_Sidcup said:For all the talent we've got this lineup has:

Trippier needs more support from Rashford. They're doubling up on him.

Better defending that time from Stones, kept up with his man0

Malta are beating Ukraine. If both results stay the same, England would be qualified for next summer tonight.

Never mind - Ukraine equaliser. England need to better their result to guarantee qualifying tonight.

Which it clearly wasn’t after watching it back once. It was a foul that wasn’t violent or dangerous. It was as plain as day.Bilko said:

don't we qualify if we beat malta regardless?Callumcafc said:Callumcafc said:Malta are beating Ukraine. If both results stay the same, England would be qualified for next summer tonight.

The usual England bias is strong on commentary tonight, Rashford mis-controls the ball and has to race on to it, then loses it easily to an Italian player, but because he's English and can do no wrong, they mention how "three players had to stop him" even though it was just one player Rashford ran up to and was then tackled by.
Same thing happens with club football, of course, but with international sport they dial it up to 11 and it's almost insufferable1 -
The way I saw that VAR involvement, there was an angle that wasn't conclusive on whether the Italian defender made contact with the ball. I don't blame them for making absolutely sure.

They need the English equivalent of Steve Brown.
I think it's why many people like Roy Keane, because he has the balls to actually be critical of Man United despite being a club legend there1 -

Four points from our last three games means we don't have to care about any other results. I was just talking specifically about what has to happen for us to qualify tonight before playing Malta and N.Macedonia next month.
Edit: technically our goal difference is so good compared to Italy and Ukraine that three points against Malta as you say would likely be enough, though not mathematically guaranteed.
