First game I went to this season, what a cracker.
Can we get promotion? I don't see why not, Pompey always bottle it just like posh, Bolton and barnsley are not worldbeaters and we are only 4 points off the play offs. The real test is Bolton at home end of October. Beat them and many will start to believe.3 -

We gifted them the two goals and our subs completely turned the game around, which is where the disappointment comes from.
Special mention for chucks, I like having a good old laugh with the cheat code stuff but he made such an impact and you can just see how desperate he his for a goal. Would keep him on the bench and playing that impact sub role though as there just isn't anyone else who can totally turn a team around like him.
Still plenty of work to do on the defence mind! Hector was great apart from that gift which sums up his season so far, just keeps having a moment in.a game where he forgets he's playing a competitive match 😅
Also, Appleton, hats off, we're playing well, scoring goals and picking up the points. Honestly, don't feel as worried or dejected when going behind as have done under other managers (and squads too) so far we've never looked out of game and even if we don't come back, the fact that we would have had a good go would make it easier to take, unlike the gutless roll over belly tickling we've seen all too often.
Looking forward to get over for a game!
No 🙂3 -

Leaburn's last two goals have been when he took up a central position, maybe being a young player he just played poorly and he really isn't a Lyle Taylor type forward who is as comfortable out wide as central.1 -
Appleton/any current Charlton Manager, should be cut some slack
He's got Leaburn coming back from a pre-season lay-off, so he can't do 90 mins/back to back games. He has Aneke, who can do even less game-time than Leaburn, or you risk losing him for months. So they have to be juggled. Leaburn would benefit so much if could play with Aneke, rather instead of. The upside for MA is that he does at least have both in a match day squad. Most teams in League One would kill for that.
That being said....Leaburn needs to show a lot more, when he plays CF on his own. He was second to most things today and when he did get there, he failed to hold the ball up. I agree with the poster who likened him to Taylor....another player happier on the half-turn....but Taylor was no slouch back-to-goal either. Leaburn has so much potential but his hold-up play will be a big question-mark with the scouts. I was really disappointed with his lack of physicality today and I feel that its definitely a missing component from his game.
As for the game, we could have gone on to win today and a better side would've done just that. Maybe...IF Aneke stays fit enough to feature regularly and he starts to score, we will be a team to be reckoned with.
I know Hector made a bad error but his overall play today was a class above League One. A decent manager (and I think we might have one) might well "get a tune out of him" I certainly wouldn't be thinking about dropping him.. I'd just be thinking how to get enough workhorses around him to keep him honest.
In summary, I felt that today was a strong indicator of where we are....midtable...but with so much potential to do well.9 -

NO, Corey Blackett-Taylor is on a scoring run and you want him to defend his box 🤷🏻♂️9 -
3-5-2 with CBT at RWB, would see CBT injured in no time. He hasn't got the fitness to do that job. Today's formation is the best way to get the best out of him and he's such an important player.2

I do like how Thomas actually chooses to use his left foot when he could have used his right. It's like he's practising!2

I noticed after Corey scored his goal, Dobbo sprinted to get the ball and told the others to hurry up with the celebrations so they could go for a third19

Chuks is the difference.no doubt. What an absolute star…7
-
Miles Leaburn is no Lyle Taylor . He cannot hold onto the ball and pass . Chuks can .0

The teams promoted from this league keep a clean sheet in approximately 60-70% of their games. We have so far kept a clean sheet in 13% of our games. Pre-season (and also when the window closed) it was obvious that we weren't strong enough at CB to compete properly this season. Once again we've dominated the game, scored two and not come away with three points. It needn't be this hard with a proper defence.

If I ever read “A&Eke” again I’m going to lose it, bloke was an absolute colossus today. Charlton Athletic are a million times better with Chuks in the team. If he can only play 30 mins a game I couldn’t care less, if he could play 90 he would be at a top championship club. He was the catalyst (again) for that rousing end to the game. Also Alfie May is absolutely HIM, what a player cult hero status pending. I know it’s only a point at home but that was such an enjoyable day out.24

I’ve just seen Alfie May get 6’s in the player marks thread, fuck me we should be sponsored by Specsavers.7

Pwr, at the game etc.
Terrible first half, I'm quite ill but was nearly falling asleep. Their first goal came from nothing.
Thought when they went up 2 zip we were done for, fortunately Chuks did Chuks things and elevated players around him.
Take the draw but it wasn't a good performance, personally didn't see an improvement in playstyle from Shrewsbury & Exeter. Main thing I noticed was the lack of midfield control, genuinely think we had too many attacking players on the pitch and reckon Fraser on from kick-off would have helped us keep the ball.
Anyway the draw will do, CBTs goal was unbelievable and perked me up a bit5 -
A great example of how subs can change a match. Thank goodness for Albie Morgan.15
-
I've said it so many times.chucks is a championship player if he could stay fit.
Unreal when fit, such a shame it's only about 5 games a season1 -
IF Aneke can stay as fit as he did in the 2020/21 season then we will make the play offs. He’s not even started scoring yet and is already winning us points every week
It’s a very big IF though2
