I was thinking earlier something similar but a more left field. That Holden was brought in TO be sacked at some point early on. His 3 year contract might just be bollox & there is no pay off required. Just so they can now recruit from within & reduce costs.

Dean Holden was known to Methven and Scott from last season. He was given a 3 year contract by Methven and pals only a few months ago. That was picked up by Holden, who foolishly believed that he would be backed in the transfer market. This did not happen. Cue disatisfaction, loss of hope from Holden and him losing the plot tactically, and having his weaknesses as a coach / manager exposed.
The utter rubbish plan of Methven and the tall tale he told the investors is behind the current fiasco. That and the staggering incompetence and delusion of the plan. Cost cutting, playing and selling youth to reduce losses. The £1m to 2m losses plan, without any significant investment, in league one will take Charlton to League 2 and the National League. the bad things we were told about Methven and his pals is so far proving to be true.
Ipswich had sustained and significant backing to get to the Championship. This is not what Charlton are getting currently. Why the hell did Methven bother - apart from the consultancy fees. What is the point ? The only way the plan works to sell the club for more in the championship. On Methven's cost cutting plan, even in a weakened league is just never going to happen.
What manager or team is going to manage with the level of cost cutting by Methven ? Maybe at very best lower midtable to avoiding relegation. That is before any decent youngster is sold off. This is what Methven has brought Charlton to. Duchatelet will be happy with the diminishing of the football club. Closer to the day when there won't be a club at the Valley.

Notice on the ever "reliable" transfermarkt that his "preferred" formation is 3-5-2 so thats one bonus at least if true, seeing we've been building a squad with that in mind
Who have we actually signed that's a 3-5-2 specialist? May needs a partner but that's not necessarily the same thing.
The full back, and the one we have almost signed, are both "attacking full backs" as opposed to specialist wing backs.
May needs a partner so 3-5-2 probably makes the most sense unless we we are prepared to give up a lot of possession and not control games as we will only have 2 in midfield.
Plus Camara and Fraser have both played the best football of their careers in 3-5-2 set ups. Dabo and Edun have both played most of their careers as wing backs rather than full back at Coventry and Lincoln.
I think it is probably the best way to set us up, but I’m not sure why Holden stopped using Thomas at LCB when he’s the only play we have that can really play there. Should have been a priority signing this summer, maybe Holden wanted one but like with the striker he hasn’t got what he wanted

It wouldn't surprise me if he's been told that he can't sign anymore players until he's got rid of those he doesn't want. He's got two youngsters on the bench who shouldn't be anywhere near the first team squad, they should be out on loan. He's got two players on the bench who shouldn't be anywhere near our club. We sign players who aren't fit to play. What about our targets that supposedly are taking time but it's better to wait for them than to chase our second in line targets. What happens if our first choice targets fall through or even if we do finally sign them how long before they are ready to play. Top 6 my arse, this time next year we'll be having the same conversations just like last year :-(
