It's not easy to score two pens in one game, especially when it's your team's keeper. I can't believe they got that second when we were on top.

I'm resigned now to never seeing us win the World Cup. Never get a better chance.
Next tournament.... Bellingham, Foden, Saka should all be in their prime.

So against the run of play but that’s what word champions do. Players and management can hold their heads high, I thought we were the best performers overs the games I’ve seen. Well done boys.
    Except USA I agree.

England have a fairly young team which should be getting towards their prime at the next Euros

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but maybe we should have given the second one to someone else to avoid the guessing, second guessing etc given he'd had one already.

But then if someone else had taken one and missed it would have seemed ridiculous.

I wouldn't recommend it. Even if you live there.
I drove through it once by mistake. Thank god for central locking

Just shows the luck you need to win a tournament. People lay into Southgate but one missed opportunity turns it all. Club managers get a chance to resolve that.

I do think that England are the best team in Europe. To win these games you need luck

Thought we were unlucky all might, every little bounce and tap off a player etc seemed to only just not drop for us.

Just not our night but as its knockout football....
  • What a disappointing night in so many ways.

Seeing that effing crystal palace flag behind the goal the icing on the cake.

I don't feel mugged off by the country I love and I already forgive kane for that awful disappointing penalty.

France are winners and they've done it before

On another night we would have won

Not much else to say other than emotionally drained and gutted. Just sad

We played well. There’s just something in our DNA that hasn’t got that extra bit of steel, winning mentality, whatever it is. Gallant losers.

When you’re not got enough then you can’t do too much about it. But It’s 2-3 tournaments now we’ve had a real chance but just can’t get things over then line.

    So gutted

Well we certainly didn’t deserve to lose that. Sour grapes maybe but the ref was crap. Saka fouled b/4 they scored and why did the second penalty even go to Var. Then of course the penalty curse came back to haunt us. Well done England and GS!
  • Nothing wrong with Southgate or the players. They are the best team in the world and there was nothing between us.

    Bring on the Euros.

Our biggest issue will be only 1-2 top years left of Kane.

Gutted.  Winners of that game were going to win the World Cup. What a missed opportunity..Did well, got back into it but never got a goal from open play.  Thought France's defence was the weak link but we just didn't quite do enough.
    Couldn't understand Sterling for Saka.

You also have to remember France were missing Benzama, Pogba, Kante, Kimpembe, Nkunku and Hernandez.  That is some injury list!

He's captain, joint record goal scorer, penalty taker for club and Country and scored the previous one. I see no reason why they'd faff about and have a different taker second time around.

We looked like the real deal tonight when it comes to international football. That is knock out stage football.

Probably should have gone the other side. Easy to say in hindsight.

Southgates record against the big teams is terrible. He can only really point to the Germany Euro 2020 game, and that's arguably the weakest Germany in a long time.
Bit harsh on Southgate, you need to look at England as a whole. We have not beaten a team ranked higher than us in tournament football since 2002 which is 20 years.
  • Gutted, well done England.  Roll on the Euros.

Agree, but with the players he has available I think we can do better.

You could also argue that 2002 golden generation should have too.
  • Southgate’s record is terrible when you look at the sides we’ve faced. Yes we got to the last WC semi and a euros final but we had very easy routes to both (bar a weak German side at the euros).

    Get rid

Yeah lets go back to a McLaren, Hodgson, Capello - Or do you think the FA will ask the public who should be appointed next?

But of course the naive approach is we'll always hire better eh!!
