That will send the strongest message. If you are going, then you accept the laws and lifestyle of the country.I don’t go on holiday to Turkey then berate them for slowly turning into a dictatorship.
This is exactly the predicament i have, i will be watching and cheering on England, but feels a bit dirty considering but can't really preach too much as that would make me a hypocrite?
Look forward to people not watching the world cup games in USA due to their laws against women based on religious dogma
This is what we're dealing with in Qatar. Homosexuality is illegal full stop.

Friend Or Defoe said:Japan and South Korea weren't footballing countries and had a great tournament. South Korea can probably be considered a footballing country these days. If the world cup was only to be played at footballing countries it will only be played in Europe and South America. It was great to have it in South Africa.
However, you should be bothered by the other stuff in Qatar.Friend Or Defoe said:Japan and South Korea weren't footballing countries and had a great tournament. Japan had a well supported league before 2002

palarsehater said:it is worth also mentioning that public affection is also illegal in qatar to say kiss your mrs walking down the street
Any intimacy in public between men and women (including between teenagers) can lead to arrest. Living together whilst unmarried is prohibited in Qatar, and sex outside of marriage, regardless of whether this is same sex couples or opposite sex couples, is illegal.14 -

Where did I say that ?
I would say that's slightly more alarming than abortion laws in America.2 -
World Cup shouldn’t be there and quite honestly nor should any country that sees itself as liberal and supporting of minorities. Dreadful and corrupt place and dreadful decision to award it the tournament. I’ll do my level best not to watch it.4

Lots of Qatari experts on here. How many of you have actually been and experienced the country, its laws and its people yourselves?6

You've got someone further up the thread saying all fans will be in danger, it wont be fun. That's just simply not true. I work with Qatari nationals, and ex-pats located in Doha on a daily basis and have been there myself. Even the 'you cant even show affection to a woman in public' is bollocks.5 -

Having the World Cup in Qatar won’t make any difference to their laws once the final whistle is over. Just look at Russia for a good example. What has changed there? The WC is just a money making machine.15

I'm all for no intimacy in public to be honest, unless it's between 2 (or more) women.
Any other kind generally makes me want to vomit.14 -
If you don't like/agree with the laws of a certain country don't go there.

I work with Qatari nationals, and ex-pats located in Doha on a daily basis and have been there myself. Even the 'you cant even show affection to a woman in public' is bollocks."An ambassador for the World Cup in Qatar has described homosexuality as "damage in the mind".
Former Qatar midfielder Khalid Salman, one of the tiny Gulf state’s best-known players, made the incendiary remark in an interview with German television broadcaster ZDF which was immediately halted by an accompanying official.Organisers have repeatedly said everyone is welcome in Qatar during the tournament but Salman said: “They have to accept our rules here. [Homosexuality] is haram (forbidden). You know what haram means?”
When asked why it was haram, Salman said: “I am not a strict Muslim but why is it haram? Because it is damage in the mind.”
The 60-year-old’s remarks emerged barely two weeks after Downing Street was forced to clarify comments made by James Cleverly, the foreign secretary, after he was accused of telling gay fans travelling to the World Cup to “be less queer”."

It would have to be some pretty heavy intimacy to lead to arrest. I saw plenty of people in hotel bars being intimate. I saw women, drunk and dancing on tables at brunches just like they do in London. Its illegal to be homosexual in the UAE but I know a couple of gay blokes that live there just fine, I got the same vibe of Doha as I did Dubai, just on a smaller scale.

I bet it would be a different story in the local Spoons.

The Brewdog anti-Qatar campaign appears to backfiring massively (they are beginning to make a habit of these PR cock-ups)
It's now been revealed that only 3 months ago they signed a deal with a government-owned distributor to sell their beer out there for the tournament... 🤦🏻♂️5 -

Not to mention the statement they put on Twitter was dreadful, full of terrible things about Qatar one moment then in the very next sentence they are putting a football pun in there. Dreadful company2
