That of course is unknown, especially as I suspect that nobody here knew anything about either Lavelle or Kerr before today!thenewbie said:Shows a bit of savvy/gamesmanship in the market by Gallen & Co as well IMO. Wigan gazump us for one option by throwing money at it so we sign another of comparable quality but for a third of the cost.3 -
Best signing this decade.
Lavelle: from the common French place name Laval, from Old French val 'valley'.
So we have signed a captain called 'The Valley'. He should feel right at home.

Reading that it’s obvious we have brought him in as cover for Stockley.Callumcafc said:0 -

My mate who supports Morecambe says Lavelle is………..I can’t even finish posting this lie because let’s face it nobody has a mate who supports Morecambe. No idea if he will be any good but the buzz of thinking someone might be is good enough for tonight.25

Just looking on Twitter and, quite rarely, nobody seems to have a bad word for him. Seems he is a great player and a great bloke.
as someone already said it always good signing a captain but a 24 year old captain must have something about him. Got a good feeling about this one25 -

Maybe we're going to play a back 3 ?thenewbie said:I can't profess to know much about him but comments from Morecambe fans seem positive, he's a big unit too and presumably won't break down on the regular like Inniss.
3 year deal doesn't suggest he's just in as cover either, looks like he's intended to play a part to me.2 -

Liking the sound of this one. Not heard of the boy before but ticks all the boxes. Welcome aboard Sam. Now can you play left back?0

He's a rabbit in the Charltonised headlights. Actual headlights by the look of it. Funny.Callumcafc said:6 -
Another purchase, good age and pedigree. Really happy with the business done.0

Very happy to see a CB come in and on a perm!
Sounds like there's a player here with Lavelle, Inniss has been great but the fitness record...yeah, not having a league one quality replacement for him last season really showed.2 -

Left field but what if Akin might move to LB. would be better than Gunterfelix_31 said:
Not sure he's been signed as back-up tbhValley11 said:Seems a decent signing. Good back up for Innis and very much a ‘grow with the club/best of the league’ type player. Three year deal too. Wonder if he was the plan B to Kerr?0 -
Like what I hear about him....welcome Sam0

Okay that's a fair comment. But based on the various comments about both they seem to be fairly similar in age/experience and even their style of play at least.killerandflash said:

I guess we'll see whose done the better business soon enough.0 -
Have to say I am very pleased with this signing. And TS's comment that he will make us better in the short term and will develop and progress on the long term seem very likely to happen.
Arter and Lee and Kirk make it four good solid signings. Leko ... I've never been convinced frankly but maybe he can improve the team also. With Macgillvray finding some good form and Gunter and Fam and the midfield looking a lot healthier now I look forward to JFC to come back, Schwartz to somehow emerge from his mysterious hiatus in cracking form and this squad can compete with any team.
I still don't know why Arter and Lee and Kirk and Lavelle couldn't have been brought in 2 months ago and we could be a really well drilled and gelled outfit before the season began..
Anyway I think we are going to turn a corner. Onwards and upwards.3 -

Good point Swisdom. Yes getting a captain in and a young one is just what is needed. I get a feeling this guy 8s going to do really well for the club..Swisdom said:Just looking on Twitter and, quite rarely, nobody seems to have a bad word for him. Seems he is a great player and a great bloke.

Overall quite happy and I feel we are now placed to make a push for at least the play offs - if some of the ‘flair’ players can really click, maybe better.
The signings of Lavelle, Kirk, Famewo, Stockley, MacGillivray and Lee all look very good ones. Clare, Dobson and CBT add depth to the squad to give us a wealth of options in midfield.
Arter and Leko are risks but, if they can get over their issues at previous clubs, then they could prove much better than L1 level.
Two concerns - obviously the left back absence - bemusing, do they have an out of contract player in mind? Secondly, it seems that Davison is back up ‘target man’ to Stockley which seems a risk - we have a few players now who can play just behind the target man but only Davison as back up in this key position? not convinced.2 -

Relax all will be fine,Gunter showed how good he can be at LB on saturday, and Davison in my opinion will improve the more game time he gets, last night (yes I know it was the piss pot cup) he was nigh on unplayable at times,scored2 (poss 3 ) fine goals.i would think that with the players we have now signed, thats the budget well and truly done.charente addick said:Overall quite happy and I feel we are now placed to make a push for at least the play offs - if some of the ‘flair’ players can really click, maybe better.

Great signing to wake up to. I make that about just over a million TS has spent on fees. Again, I understand he’s going to make mistakes, but hopefully people can cut him a bit of slack given what he’s put in financially so far. Will it be enough, who knows, but I think we have the makings of decent(ish) team that can have a go at the play offs, and you never know, maybe the top 212

This and it’s exactly the way I would like us to be run. Looking and willing to pay for good young players who have potential to grow with us or make a profit on to build on all within a sensible wage structure.cabbles said:Great signing to wake up to. It will give us a better long term chance and much better than a shit or bust strategy that it feels like Wigan and Ipswich are going for.8 -
I dont know much about him, but going on their fans reminds me a bit of lockyer. Should be a good signing, although oddly enough i saw a highlight reel on there page yesterday and for a defender it was just full of goals and no actual defending lol0

Weeeee’ve got Lavelle....super Sam Lavelle...
I just don’t think you understand...0 -
Very happy with this news.
Shows the good steady intentions of the club.
Feels like patience and thought has gone into this window.
Weaknesses identified, scouting working and deals sensibly executed.
Solid foundations to build on.
Reassuring.
Well done to everyone involved.7
