Little did we know, two years ago this month, when this was posted, that we would still be ruminating on possible consequences of deals, none of which having reached the finishing line.
So, what has changed in those two years? Well, seeing that this post by @Dazzler21 was one of only THREE posts in the whole of June 2017, we've all become a lot less reticent about posting stuff. Even if the thing we choose to post fails to add anything substantive whatsoever to the debate or fails to pass on or develop a further understanding of any of the underlying issues.
I am not technically a boycotter because I still go to most games, but I am a protester and I haven't got the answers. What I do is spend a lot less on the club and go to a few fewer games and no longer buy a season ticket. It may not be much but it is something.
My view is in life you have people who try to do something about what is wrong and people who may not like it but don't. They will often say, what is the point, it won't make any difference. Of course in some instances. including our one they may be right. But if the World was full of people who did nothing, they would still be sending kids up chimneys.
What I will say about Boycotters, and I include Peter in that through gritted teeth as he is a ref, is that I highly respect them because they are making a big sacrifice trying to do SOMETHING. I am trying to do something, but am not in their league or many others in terms of sacrifice. I will always side with people who try to do something. Having said that, the club still needs supporters to go too. It is just these people, including myself, should go and shut up in terms of criticising those that are making a stand by not going. That annoys me beyond anything.
Duchatelet has to be removed and he will not be removed by people who do nothing. That is for sure!

Don’t think Duchatelet is either mad or vindictive. I do think he’s on the spectrum somewhere and has significant personality issues. I think he’s obsessive and probably very difficult to persuade once he’s made his mind up. Doesn’t easily see other points of view and sees being proved right and not wrong as very important.

Sum is close to the £33m plus directors loans Muttley. Same for this Cardiff fella. It was more (nearer Airman’s £45m) but Roly reduced it (the selling his shares for £1 business). Dalman seems like he means business, but he’ll probably discover all the crap that Gerard discovered, and it’s a question of whether or not it puts him off, I imagine. If the price Duchatelet was asking for was completely unrealistic and they knew no-one else was going to pay it, why not wait for the price to drop? That is what appears to have happened. I'd rather new owners only pay what the deal is worth so that they have more money available to run the club. I don't believe for a minute that they will spend £40m acquiring the club and then be unable to develop it or run it for long enough before running out of funds.

I know this has been covered ad nauseam but if we were down to 5 thousand at the beginning of last season because of mass boycotting then Cullen, Bielik and the goal scoring Wembley hero Purrington wouldn't have been brought in and Taylor would've chose Sunderland instead of cafc.
The boycotting on a mass scale may have seen Duchatelet depart earlier But I'm convinced we would be starting from League 2 as some of the guys said was a price worth paying back all those years ago on that cold night in Woolwich to see the back of RD. That nightmare scenario could still be the outcome despite the fans answering Lee Bowyers clarion call and coming out in our numbers to get Cafc promoted.

I agree that all actions have consequencies. I guess it is down to individuals views on whether we want the scenario you mentioned ( decent players etc), with Duchatelet in charge or our club in different ownership. I prefer the latter, but hey, everybody to their own
What I wanted and suspect other wanted was Charlton to get promoted on a giant wave of support and someone see the potential and say pay 33 million and have the business acumen to sort out the 7 million ex directors loans because I wouldn't of thought that should be an insurmountable obstacle to a high flying ambitious business person. Oohaah and others say you've got to be mad to buy a professional football club but the publicity and kudos should help your other businesses and help your network grow. (I don't mean football network of clubs!)
I feel like I'm stating the obvious but surely most owners subsidise their football clubs from their successful businesses. I know the Man United American owners put the debt on to the club but United are a global name and should be a money making operation.

Maybe a key criteria for them is a London club - who knows! Maybe they know the old loon won't sell to anybody else at the price he is asking and they are happy to play the long game as they have done the miles in relation to us! Maybe the long game is proving to be a bit longer than they thought

Well my theory about why the Aussies haven't bought us is because they cannot commit having seen the mess the Spivs left the club in. There may be issues over whether the spivs actually owned the club and could therefore sell on to Roland (see the Jiminez court case thread). @JamesSeed has intimated this might be one issue on the hold up, but nobody is listening. It has obviously cost the Aussies a whole bunch of DD money to get to the bottom of what really happened before, and I'm sure has put off some of the other potential buyers too. Even if Dalman continues his own DD, that may throw up the same issues, and he may do what the Aussies have done and try to negotiate the price down because of this. If you offer £500,00 for a house and then during the survey find dry rot, you may still want to buy the house but not at the originally agreed price - that's my house buying analogy for where I think the Aussies are.
So when Roland says that a price is agreed, that may well be the case (much like the Brexit £39billion), but without an agreement going forwards and based on what DD has thrown up, that is worth nothing until the paperwork is signed.
