  • At this moment in time, Bowyer signing a contract is more important than the takeover IMO, With him, we have every chance of survival on a shoe string budget. Without him, on a shoe string budget..... everyone knows what will happen.
  • What would really be our luck, would be if we were put under a transfer embargo whilst our true buyer completes DD then pulls out just before the end of the transfer window...

    Like I said on page 1708.......1905 - it'll happen. Rebirth of our club. Agree 100% - let's have faith.🙏
  • Not clear of your point re boycotting. If boycotters criticise those who attend then it's fair enough to reply to their criticism.
My point is that it isn't fair enough to criticise people who are trying to do something. That includes people throwing crisps or pigs on the pitch. Not if your position is to do nothing!

  • Don’t think Duchatelet is either mad or vindictive. I do think he’s on the spectrum somewhere and has significant personality issues. I think he’s obsessive and probably very difficult to persuade once he’s made his mind up. Doesn’t easily see other points of view and sees being proved right and not wrong as very important.

Genuinely think he wants to sell but still obsesses that he’s right and can’t understand what the problems are.

personally I think we’re stuck with him.

Probably no change regarding a deal being alive or dead today from what it was months ago, the difference is, we now know it's neither alive or dead
  • Schrodingers deal
Very good.  And RD defies the standard model of negotiation, so even more of an apt statement

Don't think the deals dead in the water... He wouldn't exactly go to Cardiff press and say "Yes I am buying Charlton, I can't wait to leave this place" statement was fair for the situation and couldn't expect much else
    He could have said nothing?
  • Again, some people need to go football, its not about making a sacrifice.
    That’s why it’s called a sacrifice !

Roland would view that as a positive though...
  • Sorry I don't buy that, especially as it's not an individual and the make up of the consortium seems to have changed during the period.

The idea that someone would try to buy a club, and then deliberately wait 2 years to get the price to come down is bizarre. If that was the case, why haven't the Aussies been linked with other clubs? If the Aussies were quoted an unacceptable price to buy us, surely the logical thing would be to say "goodbye drongo" and look elsewhere, not wait 2 years...
Well they haven't gone after anyone else and are still here. Maybe they really want to buy us.
  • Everyone is getting so caught up in this that no one seems to be talking about the fact Bowyer still hasn’t signed a contract

    So buy us then.
    Stop dicking about.
    None of this makes sense.

Or say what a lot have said and just say, I respect your stand but I can't not go - watching my team means too much to me. Nobody can argue with that. And nobody should be able to argue with people trying to do something, although it is amazing how some do.

I agree that all actions have consequencies. I guess it is down to individuals views on whether we want the scenario you mentioned ( decent players etc), with Duchatelet in charge or our club in different ownership. I prefer the latter, but hey, everybody to their own
What I wanted and suspect other wanted was Charlton to get promoted on a giant wave of support and someone see the potential and say pay 33 million and have the business acumen to sort out the 7 million ex directors loans because I wouldn't of thought that should be an insurmountable obstacle to a high flying ambitious business person. Oohaah and others say you've got to be mad to buy a professional football club but the publicity and kudos should help your other businesses and help your network grow.
(I don't mean football network of clubs!)

I feel like I'm stating the obvious but surely most owners subsidise their football clubs from their successful businesses. I know the Man United American owners put the debt on to the club but United are a global name and should be a money making operation.

Come on new owners, let's be having you as a cook once said.

But why? If they had the funds lined up a year or so, why not cut your losses and buy someone else instead? I don't get what's so special about us that they would be prepared to wait and wait and wait...

I assumed it was taking so long cos there was something going on behind the scenes.

Maybe a key criteria for them is a London club - who knows! Maybe they know the old loon won't sell to anybody else at the price he is asking and they are happy to play the long game as they have done the miles in relation to us! Maybe the long game is proving to be a bit longer than they thought :)
  • He could have said nothing?
Makes his position at Cardiff look better by giving this statement though. So if nothing comes of his offer for us he can go back there and just carry on.
  • All the "in the knowers " are doing the rounds again!
  • There certainly is a fair chance of relegation this season, but to suggest that we will never get back is way over the top.
Agreed, we won promotion under Roland so miracles can happen.

Well my theory about why the Aussies haven't bought us is because they cannot commit having seen the mess the Spivs left the club in.  There may be issues over whether the spivs actually owned the club and could therefore sell on to Roland (see the Jiminez court case thread).  @JamesSeed has intimated this might be one issue on the hold up, but nobody is listening. It has obviously cost the Aussies a whole bunch of DD money to get to the bottom of what really happened before, and I'm sure has put off some of the other potential buyers too.  Even if Dalman continues his own DD, that may throw up the same issues, and he may do what the Aussies have done and try to negotiate the price down because of this.  If you offer £500,00 for a house and then during the survey find dry rot, you may still want to buy the house but not at the originally agreed price - that's my house buying analogy for where I think the Aussies are.

So when Roland says that a price is agreed, that may well be the case (much like the Brexit £39billion), but without an agreement going forwards and based on what DD has thrown up, that is worth nothing until the paperwork is signed.
  • Must keep posting on here, just to keep Happy Valley in a job, hope he’s being paid well 😉
