Horrible way to start the season.

I would have rather we got smashed 5-0, that was too painful!

Can't blame the players for that one.

If you blame Bowyer after that you don’t understand football. Simple
He was not outmanaged, he lost that game because his squad is shite

    Grant and Taylor looked good
Didn’t mind the whole 11 really, could do with upgrading Phillips and with a Fosu return that’d be very strong

Reality is our strongest 11 will play maybe once or twice together this whole season. Will take anything other than relegation.

    Bad luck guys.
We did well in the first half.

Don't switch off at the end and make defending set pieces a training priority.

    Bored with it all already.

Didn’t know it was possible to despise someone so much who I’ve never met.

That was tough to take. We gave it our all first half but we just lost our legs. I'm surprised Bowyer didn't bring on fresh legs for at least the last 10 minutes. We didn't deserve to lose and Sunderland didn't have a lot I didn't think. But, they scored the goals. We were looking very leggy most of the 2nd half, especially from our impact players from the 1st half. Something to build on but we are desperately light.

    Desperately seeking a positive.

Beforehand I thought we'd lose 3-0. To only lose 2-1 to almost the last kick of the game was an unexpected improvement.

Sitting in pub with fellow Addicks and as soon as the '6 minutes' came up we new we wouldn't hold on.Can't really fault the effort but we lacked any kind of creativity in midfield and I lost count of the number of petty free kicks we gave away. First half half decent - Sunderland were pants - but as usual couldn't nick a second goal. As soon as they scored the outcome was pretty obvious. Never created anything going forward in this half, too many over-hit or misplaced passes never looked like scoring. Better get used to this folks feel it's going to be a long season!

    Painful.

First half we looked cracking, top two were too much for Sunderland to handle, midfield looked busy and energetic and back 4 comfortable. Second half the formation change did us, and we had no options on the bench to bring on to try and change things around. It is going to be a long season.

    And yet more injuries :(

    gutted.

don't deserve that BUT.......their manager changed it up.....ours didn't. Yes, LB may not have the players but 5 players on the bench ??? Sunderland played a 16 year old ffs !! We needed to freshen it up with 20 to go. Yesterday we were told Taylor & Pratley were "doubtful" as one hasn't done a full pre-season & the other injured. Both played 90 + 9 mins.

I maybe be being harsh & probably because I think we've been robbed of a point (would have snapped your hand off for 1-1) but LB just stood there & did nothing. No point making a "gesture" that we have no one to play. RD ain't watching Mr Bowyer - he don't care. Either make do with what you have or don't bother.
  • Joyless fucking club.
  • That challenge on Pearce should have seen red . We played well first half , Lapslie was excellent I thought . Fans were great , can't criticise anyone of the players . But Roland you don't half get under my skin .
  • Just on way home from game. Sunderland are poor. We should have put the game to bed in the first half. We looked very tired in the 2nd half and players like Pratley needed to be subbed but we only had 5 subs. We look decent though and dare I say it even better when our injured players are back.
  • We lack any attacking impetus off the bench, almost non existent on the wings in terms of pace and trickery. If fosu isn't back soon we could leave a lot to do.

Oh and Roland off you must fuck.

    Copied from match thread.

Should have made changes. Give a fuck if you don't rate the options we needed fresh legs and some were dead on their feet and offering nothing towards the end.

Feels like naivety from LB but it just stings to lose in the last minute. Real villain is Roland who has left us with the thinnest squad we've ever had and must be the one blocking us bringing in the trialists.

If we lost Aribo this week we are fucked as thought he and Grant looked good today.

Did better than I expected nearly holding out for a point.

The game was lost on player availability when we needed fresh legs in the middle we had no options, none at all - can’t fault Bowyer today.

Good effort from the players to no avail. Lapslie May grow but not up to this division, we’re an injury (or a player sale) away from a very very tough season.

  • The squad is weak. If at least 5, quality, players are not brought in then the season is going nowhere. With injuries loss of form by January there will not be 11 players to put out a team.
RD is killing the club, he will get nothing selling it soon, as there will be nothing to sell. Goalkeeper looks weak. No back up to defence. Mid field, as always has no play maker. Taylor is best forward in a while but will only score if chances created.
Yes the team looked good in places in the first half.
Overall it looked like an end of season squad with the hope there will be strengthening in close season ready for a push next season. That squad is so thin it is an insult to paying supporters.
How do we get RD out?
  • Just another routine kick in the nuts.

Hats off to the Charlton fans who made the trip and didn't stop singing.
I laugh in the face of the Sunderland fans who didn't make a noise until they scored.

With JFC in the team and Pratley to come on off the bench I think we'd have held on (to either 1-0 or 1-1 at least)

To have such an important player out for the season when we already need to boost the squad is so cruel. Get the triallists/loans signed asap.

Good first half, but didn’t really cope with their formation second half. Having said that, Sunderland didn’t look much cop to be honest. We can’t carry on in this threadbare state though, we just don’t have the manpower to see us through the season.
  • Sorry guys but I don't buy into this we were unlucky crap.

First half performance was really good - amazed me to be honest. But in the second, we just sat back, hardly attacked them and the outcome was inevitable. It just happens so many times that we go ahead, don't score a second goal and then concede late on that its not bad luck, it's just braindead football.

And Golfaddick makes a really good point about Taylor and Pratley. Taylor, in particular, was clearly exhausted that last 20 mins. What's the point of having Ajose and H-F on the bench and not using them in such circumstances.

This is going to be one hell of a long season and I suspect it is not going to go end well.

Ward, Dawkins & Ince.............should have been signed up this week & in the squad today. If LB isn't allowed to sign them then just say so & stop pissing them about.

I'll keep saying it - LB is an appeaser. If you can't be a manager under these circumstances then say so. Stop dicking about with "it is what it is".
  • Feeling very flat at this moment in time.

Really proud of our lads first half. Thought young George was excellent , Taylor & Grant worked well together & the defence almost untroubled.

Different story 2nd half with the change their manager made.

We ran out of steam with little to offer from the bench- end of.

No way blaming Bow or the players who gave their all until their tanks were empty and with this featherweight squad, it I can't see anything changing.

    Heartbreaking stuff.

Feck off, Duchatelet . You've done your worst, now leave us in peace...or maybe that should be pieces.

I'm more worried about my growing apathy with it all

I expected a loss but the players did try hard. Just lacking in quality and severely lacking in depth. Think LB made his point quite clear when he didn't make any tactical subs.

Still. Hope my passion comes back next home game.
