It is my earliest memory, Kevin Dickinson running out and kicking the ball towards the covered end as high as he could, yeah 82/83/84 was not great but it was something me and me dad done together, a bit of stability in our house at the time.
Grandad had it at his funeral, who helped build the valley, and no doubt my dad will want it at his funeral.

We were known as "The Robins" when I first supported Charlton in the 50s. Very reluctantly, we had to change that nickname because another league club already had it and their fans objected (Bristol City). Hence, RRR was very apt for us then and it was the same Billy Cotton version we have today.
The difference then was it could be heard as the players ran out and the crowd sang it out loud. In recent years it has been drowned out by some deafening "battle-cry" over the tannoy system which virtuallty obscures the song completely (no disrespect to the announcer, but more respect for the anthem, please). I, for one, will always be in support of RRR and will continue to sing it out dispite the tannoy.
Oh, and whilst we are on the subject, who's decision was it to stop playing "Who's Sorry Now" by Connie Francis at the end of games?? It goes hand-in-hand with many fond memories of the huge crowds filtering out of The Valley as the mist was rolling in with the darkening light before we had the luxury of floodlights. That haunting song echoing around the terraces, for years, accompanied us on our way out of the ground to the buses. Own up now! Save yourself and bring it back immediately. You had no permission from us, the loyal fans and I miss it. (:

After reading through this again I've got an idea for those keen on intimidating the opposition.
We install very high quality surround sound speakers within the Jimmy Seed stand and build a tv underground in front of the Jimmy Seed stand that when comes out of the ground covers the away fans entire view of the pitch. The third and final addition pyrotechnics that can blast out flames on both sides of the stands and fire blocking their exits.
We then play 'In the hall of the mountain king' full blast whilst the screen pops up showing our best moments.

At this point I don't think they'll be too intimidated, but that's when I thought of the finishing touch. During their screen viewing we all put on 'V for Vendetta' masks and simultaneously stare at them for around 30 seconds after their screen goes back into the ground. Then the Undertakers theme kicks in.

The fire gets more intense and our players walk out with no emotion. I figured this is perfect. After all we play at the valley. We could rename it the 'Death Valley'. I was even thinking maybe we could ask the Undertaker to come out leading the lads for big derbies and cup matches.5 -

Has the Red Red Robin actually been ditched now? It hasn't been played at the last two home games, replaced instead with a singalong 'Valley Floyd Road'. I'll sing 'Valley Floyd Road' when I want to, not when I'm told to thank you very much.
Did I miss the consultation exercise or has Ms Miere decided that we will just have to accept this. This is precisely the sort of thing that gets right up my nose how the club is run at the moment.1 -

no one is taking any notice of "let's sing Valley Floyd Road", apart from the Forest fans the other night. The Covered End started up with "Everywhere we go" as it was announced and everyone joined in.
I wonder if the 68/69 team enjoyed hearing the Red Red Robin? A clear link going back to players from nearly fifty years ago. A great example of why it should never be ditched.5 -

First time the "proper charlton" version of valley Floyd road has been played this season. Has been Mull of Kintyre by Paul McCartney up til now, which imo didn't ever work as was too slow and wrong words.1

We never used to sing VFR at 100mph you know. Or that high either. Think it's lost something these days as a result.
We don't need singalongs. To be frank what we need is the Red Red Robin then music silence. Let the atmosphere grow itself. Anything else gets in the way.5 -
