Well if KM is reading this for God sake don't take our Red Red Robin away. We are not just another club we are CHARLTON and this is part of our heritage, going back for me 44 years since I first went down the Valley with my Dad. As a music lover its probably the song I've heard the most in my life.
I wish you hadnt come out with this, another stick for some to hit her with.
But if it's true, then should we just stand back and watch one more bit of our heritage, history and tradition be stripped away because a couple of Belgians don't like it because they don't understand it?
But we don't even know it IS true. And even if it was never going to happen in the first place, now it's going to go round and round as another piece of 'proof' the Evil Belgians are taking the soul out of Charlton... despite not being anything of the kind.

We don't know if it ISN'T either using that logic.

It is True, but basically as i understand from talking with her they have no clue why we sing it and thought it was boring. perhaps some Charlton education is needed at the next board room meeting?
give her, her due where needed she quickly saw the passion we showed for it and had a good laugh about it - im fairly certain they wont ditch it - but would be great to see is sung again just in case!
I'm pro Belgian, after meeting Rolland and Katrine, I'm convinced they are great news for Charlton!
yeah, about time too. How about something from the signing Nun?
While we're at it couldn't we name the west stand the Stella artois stand, the east stand the Poirot stand, the Jimmy Seed stand the RD enclosure and the covered end the Tintin stand.
Its a great idea, then we can change the name of The Valley to La Choc Box and to really finish this tradition malarky off change the clubs colours to Blue, hhmm sorry not very apt. Ok yellow and black with a little touch of Red trim.
To be fair, and I was there when the conversation took place, the question was around whether we should have something more intimidating. Majority sign over Red Red Robin hence its being questioned as to whether fans want it changed. All those there supported non change but I can understand her thoughts. Would be nice this season if supporters actually acknowledged RRR and got 100% behind it!
DON'T EVEN THINK OF IT. All those 100's of matches I went to with my Dad and that song brings him back a little bit every time at the Valley. Please respect this part of our history...

This, exactly the point I was making earlier in the thread.
Love the Red Red Robin, especially when I hear kids (without the Charlton link) singing it because they sing it at school, it's a great 1st song to get the kids into.
crap song, sung with pride and enthusiasm by me every home game even though they have on occasion drowned it out with announcements. It runs deep as a tribal anthem and will really piss me off if it goes.
Let us turn this around a bit. I have never ever been cowed or intimidated by music at opponents grounds. I have never ever seen players intimidated by the running out music anywhere. Much as I like the New Zealand hakka I don't believe it puts opponents off their game. Personally I always sing RRR at the Valley because I enjoy it, enjoy the tradition too, and it clears the football brain palate much as a glass of clean water does for the meal to come. The other question is if it is changed, then to what? I can only think it would be a stirring piece of classical music which has already stood the test of time. Or a different piece every season, or every match? People are very protective about music, people love their music, their passionate favourite..I get that. Then again there are musical snobs (and we all have a bit of that in us don't we?), however RRR has organically evolved into being our music for good or ill. If we changed it somehow I would feel a bit manipulated, and I would hate that.
If it goes I will consider for a nanosecond, torching myself outside the 'sportswear emporium' (where the club shop used to be ;-) ) in protest. Flippin' liberty takers. We'll be playing in blue next.

Floyd Road can become Flanders road as well.
Can't wait to get back to Le Valley
