If DD has gone will be a shame but not end of the world if we replace him with say Michael Mancienne then I would be happy. Lets wait and see. My biggest worry is that if Dervite has gone does that mean that Jose has as well as he obviously rated DD and would I imagine want to keep him.
Yes but one key fact, he (JR) doesn't have to pay DDs wages so let's not jump to conclusions.
Good player, but not overly bothered. Dervite, Morrison and Hamer were part of a defense regularly conceding 2 or 3 a game - a huge overhaul is required to get us moving up the league and it could start with all three moving on.
If we had a stronger midfield and attack the defence wouldn't be as exposed or under pressure to keep clean sheets.
Our defence was the strongest part of our squad when we won League 1 and that's continued to be the case in the Championship.
All four of our CBs can be solid at this level, just as Hudson showed he could be at Cardiff after being written off by our fans.
Would love to know who's making decisions on a players value and who might be a better replacement, because I am sure it's not RD and KM, and without a permanent head coach this is what worries me the most. On the face of it Dervite was decent would have been pleased if he stayed but no too worried he's gone. But the recruitment going forward could be a real problem if someone without a good knowledge of the Championship isn't pulling the strings.

If we were signing players without a Head Coach/Manager in place then I would be concerned. Releasing players is something that would have been decided when Riga was still here. For example with DD - Riga says 'if we can get him for xk per week then he's worth keeping - if he wants more then I would advise letting him go'.
Coaches/managers do not do the contract negotiations at any club - that's usually down to the CEO working within budget constraints.
Would be sad to see him go, he has been arguably our most improved player this season
Poyet ?
Poyet was player of the season, arguably Dervite was the most improved player of the season.
Dervite improved in the last 10 games.
Poyet went from Academy to POTY in 4 months.
I'll have to disagree with you, unless Barca make a late bid for Dervite :-)
He is saying Dervite was the most improved player this season, i.e. compared to last season. How can Poyet be the most improved player of the season if he only made his debut this season?

And you know this to be true or just a guess?
My understanding is that a Head Coach does not have such input - just works with the players/ squad he is given. So back to the BIG question - who exactly is making these decisions?

RD? Katrien? An Israeli agent? Anyone but the Head Coach. Not that we have one at the moment.

Because if Poyet was the best player at the club at the start of the season, then surely Powell would have played him ?

Could be that he wasn't allowed to. I don't believe that it was a coincidence that we get taken over and straight away Poyet gets in the team and is an ever present.

No it's RD that picked Powell's team, not Jimenez :-)

Riiiiight...but how does that make him the most improved? There are no previous performances to compare?

I'm guessing at the 'Riga says .....' bit - which is why I put 'for example' before it.
I know the general process to be true though. A coach or manager does not and should not have anything to do with transfer fees or wages/contracts - that is a fundemental finance responsibility for the Chairman/CEO. The coach's role is to identify (with scouts etc...) potential targets - the Chariman sets the budgets, and the CEO manages within those budgets to get the players the coach has identified via negotiation with the player and their agent.
Some of the negativity on this thread is just so depressing. Despite RD saving us from the moronic & hopeless Chuckle Brothers, giving us solid financial security for the first time in years, saving us from certain relegation by appointing JR, buying us a brand new pitch & investing heavily at the Academy, some people are still lining up to have a pop just because one average player is leaving as he got a better offer elsewhere. Some of you must have been really disappointed that we actually stayed up last year!!

Ok. Having seen Poyet in the youth team & the pre season friendly at Bromley. I think Poyet improved from being not good enough for the first team to being our best player. A jump of over 18 places.
Dervite improved from being about 8th best to 5th best. About 3 places.
Just my opinion.
Like I say I'm sure Barca will be putting in a late bid for Dervite :-)

It seems that the departure of a lot of their high earners has freed up funds for Bolton.
