We stayed up so last season is over and for me, despite all of the bumps it was a success! More on that later... Rather than looking backwards we might do better to look forwards to next seasons squad. Say we have 35 players on the books last season. Well 15 of them are already signed up for next year and beyond and six were on loan so back they go - perhaps some return? And that's 60% of the squad.
We have heard in the last few days that four or five are already leaving (14%) which leaves nine who may or may not stay (25%). Not sure why the five leaving is not on the OS as other clubs appear to be making this kind of announcement.
I expect Riga, Fraeye and the coaching staff made recommendations about who should go and who should be offered new contracts but it is going to be down to Meire, the finance guy and RD to nail the deals. I am sure that after each game the football and club management would have sat down and reviewed where things were going. Basically 75% of last years squad is already agreed and there is a whole list of variables which might impact the final 25%, not to mention acquiring new talent.
I think we will have to wait a little while before we know who is retained and then longer still to see who might be brought in... and of course who will be the head coach for 2014/15. So I would suggest, like some others that it is a tad premature to judge the squad for next season. Or indeed judging Duchatelet and Meire. I'd prefer to hear their next message and witness the execution of the summer rebuild.
Given that I agree 100% with the list of players confirmed to be leaving so far, I am happy to wait a little longer to see how this pans out.
It sounds quite clear Dervite was offered a contract but declined and chose to accept a better offer at Bolton
"how can we not compete with Bolton" people ask. Much of there debt is friendly and sits with the owner. They also still get parachute money and with releasing several high rollers means they are able to offer more money than us for players which seems to be the case here with Dervite.
So how this comes to be RD's fault just doesn't add up.
Judge RD from this summer onwards he can't be held accountable for Dervite and anyone else walking away on a free.
Anyone with a year or more left on there contracts from this summer - RD is now accountable for.
Agree with some of what you say - but RD is accountable for Charlton having a squad that can compete next season. Still early days but some positive developments are needed to achieve that. I was holding my breath for some in the last transfer and loan window - I am not holding my breath this summer. If he does the business he will surprise me. I hope and pray I am surprised!

This, just seems all i have heard from January is GOOD players going out, and generally Liege rejects coming in. He hasnt shown any inclination (openly) of trying to keep the good players, and it just seems a drip-feed of the best leaving the club. Seems that we will end up with basically the youth team next season playing for us - tbh Jacko and Wiggy are not going to scare anyone in the top 22 clubs of the championship.
Just wondering how many times the "...was offered a new deal but couldn't agree terms" line will be rolled out this summer by the club. That's Yann and Dervite so far. I'll go for it being used when Hamer, Morrison and Poyet all leave as well. That'll be the core of the team gone.
The youth team minus one of them - Poyet probably! And I'll keep asking the question - why hasn't Riga been signed as manager yet - until it actually happens.

It will probably be quite a few! However it is true! The player the club wanted to keep have had an offer on the table for some time! Most of them (bar Jackson and Wiggins) decided to wait and see first what league we are in next season as we as who is in charge and what lengths are taken to strengthen the squad! Clearly would have loved Dervite to stay but a player with a history of injuries is he worth a four year deal on the money Bolton have offered! I doubt it!
How did this nation ever win two world wars? Never thought I'd see so much flapping, panicking and pant-pissing over a decent though not world-class Championship defender leaving for pastures new. Some of you need to calm the f**k down. ( ;-) )
Couldn't agree more. I panicked whenever he was pressured. Average defender who one minute was shouting his mouth off about a long term deal and has gone to Bolton for the money. He played a big part in US being in a relegation battle so time to rebuild and get better players in.
He cost us both goals against Yeovil and terrible defending for warlords.
Move on and judge the board in August and not week 2 of pre season
KM has said judge us by what happens during the summer. I think that's what we are going to have to do. By then of course it could be too late.
She also said that the club were intending to have most of the new signings done and dusted by the end of June ( just 6 weeks time).
It does seem a bit of a tall order. But then we don't know which irons the club already has in the fire.
I think she was a bit naive making that comment, the intention maybe there but there are too many uncontrollable variables to be sure this will happen. It's a bit like Murray saying we will sign a new player every week for the next 6 weeks and then nothing happening
I think Dorian is a OK centre back at best .. If he goes we can easily get somone in just as good
Peter Clarke is better then Dorian in my opinion ..
There's not way based on 6-7 good game he deserves this reaction
Guys clam down I can't deal with the RD slating cause a 5/6(on a good day ) out of 10 player is going to Bolton , he will be replaced and if it's a deal to keep marvin? Then id go for it aswell
Agree we have to wait for the bigger picture. DD isn't a top class defender, and he's pretty injury prone. I wonder if Joe Gomez will break through this year?
to be honest, Bolton are massively in debt as we know... and they're spending more than us on players like Dervite? Yeah he's been good this last third (if that) of a season, but there were times on here when people were talking about how shocking he was, throughout his time with us (personally thought he's always been decent). Yeah it's disappointing that we're losing him after recent good performances but if he wants to take the big contract Bolton are offering then that's his prerogative. I don't want the club handing out contracts that it can't afford, especially if the player is replaceable, as Dervite is
Do you have sudden attacks of fear that last several months? Do you feel your having a heart attack and cannot breath? Do these attacks occur at unpredictable times causing you to worry about having another one at any time? If so, you have may have the new sweeping virus called Charlton panic disorder, seems to be spreading fast :-)

Bed wetting on an epic scale all the way through.
Let me make sure I understand it exactly what might happen here. An average Centre Back looks like he might bugger off for more money. Is that right?
When you put it like that, I guess the hysteria is justified.
Let them have him , they'll be in admin by the turn of the year.
