I thought based on the reactions of many on here that the leaving of Yann Kermorgant was going to ensure we would be promoted to the premier league. Apparently loan players from Belgium who are barely potty trained combined with our existing squad can't manage that.

    I am shocked. Powell out.

Desparately disappointing especially being ahead for so long. I hate to say this but football is about getting positive results no matter how you do it, and we are simply not doing. Sadly i think that powell must go now otherwise relegation is looking more and more likely.
  • How were Nego, Poyet and Reza?
  • Massive score a late winner. Like I said if CP does not turn this around next three games he will go.

@PaddyP17 If we were defending from the time we scored, then surely bringing on Church, we still would have been defending. The problem was keeping the ball in possession. Was that a midfield issue? I'm not buying a link between Dervite and conceding. It didn't "HAVE" to be that way. But it was likely we'd concede at least one, because of all the possession Wigan had, which lead to attempts on goal. Who could have came on that would have helped with keeping the ball?

No matter how good our new arrivals are, none had even met prior to yesterday, more or less.

So you don't agree that bringing on Dervite would simply disrupt a defense that had been playing well for the 80 minutes beforehand?

Screws up positioning, marking, offsides, everything.
  • I just can't see us doing enough to turn this around.
  • Seems to have been a brave effort today. I think we can take some encouragement for next week. I get the impression that Reza is likely to score given chances.

    Don't understand the negativity !
Obviously I'm gutted to have lost but looking at the circumstances it's understandable
Two very inexperienced youth players playing in Lennon and poyet with the addition of two new players in nego and reza who have had about one training session with their new team mates so understandable lacking a little something!

Sounded like a positive performance where we battled to hold on but then you have a team like Wigan full of high championship/mid prem players the bombardment is always going to be exhausting!

On to the next one after a few days together and another food performance! COYR

28 shots to 5. says it all.

We'll have to have a few wayward shot from impossible angles then to improve that stat as those were the ones off target... Was 7 / 2 in terms of shots on target
You have top get into the positions to get a shot, be it on or off target.

I am at work and have just sneaked on to the net to look at the result....when i saw it i knew we had conceded in the last minute...then to see the first in 88...gutted
  • Pull yourself together people and don't be angry with Powell or the team - give them some credit for hanging on so long and sympathy for not getting anything out of a game v a virtual Prem squad on paper...
  • A lot of people have mentioned Pete not featuring today. I'm sure I read that players had to be signed before midday yesterday to be allowed to play? And I checked the Facebook page and the signing wasn't announced till gone 15:00.

Very tense listening to that second half and yet when they got the double-whammy there was a feeling of inevitability to it.

I really do hope that people have a sense of proportion about this result though. We had a squad who hardly knew each other; they had a squad that was widely tipped for promotion. I don't think anyone really thought we'd get much change out of them. So, as disappointing as it was, it's not the end of the world.

Starting to think Powelly's gotta go. Can't stick up for him much longer; week after week there are people saying that he's cost us points
  • Big game next week
  • We drew 0-0 with wigan in october. They haven't become world class since then.

I like Powell but we need fresh ideas and go in another direction. Surely someone/ anyone would give them à boost.

We can't continue to accept that no one can do better. We need to be pro active in finding someone who could do better. This has gone on long enough. We will be relegated with Powell. We may be relegated with his replacement but at least we tried.

Christ, some of you are promoting Wigan to Bayern Munich status. There an average Championship team chasing 6th place ! Get real, today is a another nail in the coffin of our stay in this leauge.
  • Unfortunately I fear for CP and I honestly think he could be shown the door

@SELR_Addick they were under the cosh from the moment the goal was scored. All the 25 attempts at goal didn't happen after Dervite came on. The midfield needed something and, lets face it, Powell doesn't have a strong bench to draw on. Dervite came to defend from the midfield. Wigan scored. Then they scored again... Need some midfielders to strengthen the side and help retain possession and move from defence to attack. Not a new manager.

Haven't been these gutted in a while. 5 minutes to go and we're of course for a fantastic away win at a good side and we could really kick on and push up the league. 5 minutes later and were 2-1 down. Unbelievable.

I'm sure it isn't CPs fault, but I'm not sure this won't be used as a reason to replace him, especially as a number of players who might have been expected to be loyal to him / used to working with him have moved on.

Sounds like we lost to a world class strike. Considering the predictions yesterday were of 5-0 defeats, this probably hurts more.

Whether Powell will stay or go in the next few days will be interesting

Maybe a more calming influence like Hughes old have been brought on? Or attack minded players like Church or Green?

Don't think anyone's disputing that. It's "why" that's at stake. The squad are strangers to each other and we still require a little skill through the middle and a little strength in depth.
