Don't fall into that trap. Of course they are supporters. Maybe their idea of support is different to yours or mine, but that's something entirely different.Bedsaddick said:
Whoever it is they need weeding out . We don't need these people as supporters ( if they actually are supporters ?).Jayajosh said:Bedsaddick, the vandals were in their 40s apparently, not kids. Perhaps this is the new breed, the kids behave respectfully and the dads act like thugs.

The seats near the front are plastic but the ones at the back are wooden. I'm surprised that wooden seats were never banned many years ago and that is long before the smoking ban came into effect by law because wooden seats are a major fire hazard.0
-
I remember a similar thread recently where I got slagged off for suggesting that we seem to be developing a very worrying 'Millwall' mentality. It's becoming all to common and I personally hate it0
-
Major over reaction, it's happened at two games for god sake, stop acting like it happens all the time.0

It's a dump but wooden seats on a concrete base are no more a fire hazard than plastic ones. Probably harder to ignite.CharltonsNumber10 said:The seats near the front are plastic but the ones at the back are wooden. All the knobs come out for millwall and palace away0

And all the Palace knobs come to the Valley (flare)ValleyGary said:All the knobs come out for millwall and palace away
Millwall are mostly just nobs wherever they go.

I think some people on here are massively naive to think there wasn't going to be any sort of trouble yesterday. Especially after millwall. There's a different crowd at these games, it's to be expected.
The police were to heavy handed and arrogant beyond belief. I come from a family of police officers and before yesterday had some respect for them at footy games. Not anymore! I was towards the front with 3k fans behind me edging me forward and the ob screaming in my face and a dog trying to bite my bollocks off. Do they really think they had any sort of control? Yes obviously they need a police presence there but as said above treat people like animals you will get animals.
My mate was assaulted by a policeman he's number was taken and he will be reported.0 -

Agree with you DA9. The point I was making is people change when they are drunk and in a group. You can't stop them getting very drunk and you can't stop them ganging up together. But the police and stewards can limit the amount of violence they get away with. Yesterday it would appear they didn't manage them very well.DA9 said:
Rubbish, no excuse, if they want a fight, go and look for the palace firm and put your fists up, no excuse for vandalising cars and property.EdgeleyAddick said:
But if you've got a load of blokes who have been on the keg for 5 hours and their team have thrown away a lead against a rival team then some of them are going to get violent. The same type of bloke might also do it on a night out after he's had a row with someone.DA9 said:Smashing up cars and vandalism is a mugs game, no excuse for it
It's down to the police and stewards to try and control them, which is not easy, but surely they've plenty of experience at it by now.
Surprising to think Watford kicked off at lunchtime and this one didn't.
Would anyone on here who lives near the Valley or parks near the Valley on match day be so forgiving if millwall smashed their car or vandalised their fence/garden wall etc in March, would it be the polices fault then or would you be screaming for arrests and millwall to be punished?

Agree but it's the principle. He has a right to see the video doesn't he?0

Good point. Guarantee they won't find it though.0

Lost respect for police and stewards at football a long time ago.agim said:Not anymore! Police give off the idea they can't wait for someone to be 'out of line'.
Stewards are bullies.

Have to say the support in ground was first class.0
-
Few points
- It WAS NOT kids/youth who were the main culprits behind the vandalism. Those I saw with seats outside the ground/smashing up seats and generally being aggressive were all 30s / 40s and should have known better. It's a point that needs to be re-iterated because the youngsters should not feel victimised or alienated from coming. The RD lot and loads of other young lads at the top did a fantastic job in creating atmosphere and have done for a fair few games now. It's important our support continues to grow in this way.
- Someone on here said the vandals should get years behind bars. Sorry that's mental. The vandalism was scummy - work of pricks - but no one was hurt.
- Throwing flare = bad. Setting flare off when we score = good. Adds colour and fun to the occassion and I personally think they're a bit of fun.
- Smashing up cars is for mugs. End of.0 -
Everything the Ob received after was fully deserved the way they were acting.
Smashing the cars and fences was just plain muggy though as someone else said. Embarassing.0 -
To be fair people need to use their brain, its us that represent the club and although it hurts to lose, where's the sense in making ourselves look like mugs? I've been going football for years and I'd never back down from anyone giving it to me, but why pointless vandalism?? Do me a favor .0

It isn't only with Charlton that problems are starting to appear again.
I also follow and watch Maidstone, and over the last few weeks its becoming more apparent that this type of supporter is appearing there too. Reading the forums, there is a group of so called supporters who have just started to attend games who thing its ok to abuse other fans and throw objects onto the pitch. At Maidstone, they use a few kids/youths as stewards who will the best will in the world, are not there for anything other than to watch a free game of football ( as you would expect at that level of football ) yet many are thinking its time to go to a more professional steward company. Over the last few games, the fans have tried ( along with the club ) to deal with it, but it would seem that the tide is starting to turn and it might become a big issue if they don't deal with it now.0 -
Just like to add that I haven't lost any respect for the police .
I never had any in the first place.0 -

Think what happened was a disgrace and totally unacceptable however , when you compare it to what palace did back in 2007 - breaking seats and toilets or beating up elderly men and abusing women and kids - shows that its not new in football where we are concerned and potentially points to the future0

'We' smashed loads of their seats after the Dennis win - premiership 20040

What many people forget to acknowledge in this
is that for a large period of our recent history we were homeless
When we played at shithurst and upton park the local youth would not really follow Charlton as they had their own affinity with both other clubs
Since we returned slowly and steadily more of the young men from within the catchment have found Charlton as their club
Se London is a gritty tough place to be when young and finding your feet in the world these are the anngry territorial men that some of you are pointing at
When you put the older men mentioned into the same picture who had never left the club but did not have the numbers that a club of our catchment area should have had through the 80s and 90s you get this newish generation of supporter
I am all for the edgy elemant within the club as for many years we were outnumbered and ridiculed for the size of those that gravitate to these scenarios
And like it or not if like minded folk are sharing a dance often away from the general public then other teams elemant will not trouble or impose themselves on others days as they have in the past as they are getting their excitement elsewhere
There are exceptions but from what I hear our elemant was held up in a boozer amongst themselves with the OB in numbers surrounding them from early doors once In shithurst its a different story
Remember that the train incident has now bought this fixture to a very different and more defiant attitude towards these stripey pricks0 -
@ ValleyGary everyone there yesterday go everyweek not just Palace and Millwall0
-
There was people at millwall that I know for a fact aren't even charlton fans.0
