So do you understand what Palace away means ? Do you really ?
I can't justify some of the things that happened outside the ground after the game today, but I know where I'm pointing my finger first and it isn't towards our own. Treat people like animals and see what you get.
SE9 - same excuse paedophiles use mate. Always someone else's fault. Reason I left Modern Britain 19 years ago and will never make it my permanent home again.
A bad call by the police commander does not excuse wanton vandalism of innocent people's property.
Country went to the dogs years ago. Shame to see my football club's 'fans' going the same way now.
You dont like the country, you dont like the culture...sorry mate, but youve given up the right to support an English football club.
Well I suppose some will be happy to see that Charlton have shaken off their reputation as a "family club." I took my 12 year old brother to Millwall and didn't think anything went on there that was too bad, I mean it was a bit edgy but it wasn't that bad. But Palace, I am so glad I didn't take him. The atmosphere at the game was fantastic but what happened afterwards was disgusting.
No excuses, no blaming police, what I saw some Charlton fans who were old enough to know better doing on Saturday was awful. Blaming the police just shows the complete density of some of the twats that support our club.
We lost, some people worked up a temper and decided to take it out on some people who probably couldn't afford to go to a football match if they wanted to's property. I'm sure they would also agree that it was the police's fault.
Well done.
And I say this as a fan who made the effort to get to the game on crutches, I love my club more than anything, I can't wait for the next match, but I think that anyone who tried to blame anyone other than our fans for what happened is either a fool or naive. If some Palace fans started smashing up Harvey Gardens and claimed it was because of "overbearing police" I'm guessing sympathy would be limited?
Or is the idea of loving your club without smashing something up because it creates "atmosphere" too alien an idea for some of the twats on here?
My next away game is Leicester, and I will be taking my now 13 year old brother, who loves going to see Charlton as much as possible (Season ticket holder at home, and get to as many away games as possible). I'm guessing that these so called "fans" won't be there because it isn't Millwall/Palace on that occasion, otherwise I wouldn't bother.
I don't want Charlton to become a club I can't take my brother to, and when I'm older, my kids to until they are old enough to be able to handle looking out for seats flying at them, or people throwing rocks aiming for police, or people making racist remarks about people in windows (all of which I personally saw myself rather than taking it second hand).
Or should I just tell my brother it's atmosphere at an away game and tell him to join in?
You should take to the stage.
As for the whole new breed of supporter thing. I would suggest that all seater stadia have bred the new type of supporter, ie the type that sits all game moaning and thinks they are better than everyone else.
This new breed wouldn't have been able to disengage from their fellow supporters quite so easily and then slag them off 25 years + ago.
There will be plenty of games with 400 Charlton going forward so your brother will be fine and can be kept away from any potential issues. Some games will attract a bigger away crowd for us and therefore a broader range of followers.
Which boarding school is your brother at where he doesn't see the grit of life either regularly or occasionally ? It takes all sorts.

just every one stop talking about it its happened, weve all had our grumble and discussed the points of it, but end of the day it has happened and its in the past. just my opinion i hope i dont get picked on too much - sarcasm intended its pathetic.
NLA is right about the millwal game so much was made about this game when in reality nothing of note really happened, yet this match seems to have been catlyst for our support to be branded hooligans.
Great post . Never tell your brother that acting like a moron is the done thing . Although I presume from your post your sensible enough to know that. We really do attract some Chavkeys - Chav/Pikeys and it will be difficult to get rid if this low life unless we all stick together to rid of this scum from our club.
Thanks. I just can't believe it's controversial on here to say that doing stuff like that is wrong.
And to the PL54 who asked what boarding school my brother went to. It's not that I don't want him to see the "grit" of life he sees plenty of that. It's that I don't want him to see the people doing it to be people who are supposed to be supporting the same club as him. I spent a lot of time talking to him about what a nasty club millwall are and if he'd seen Saturday hed probably ask me if we are that different.
Like I said if palace did that we would be up in arms about it.
Your spot on henners tbh I didn't mean acceptance from the non like minded folk it was meant as they don't seek acceptance from those who say they are not fans or do not indulge in the same football experience
Exactly the opposite in fact. Annoying the East stand cardigan wearers like you NLA , NSS or DA9 would be seen as a positive by them and a vindication that what they are doing is right.
I'm lost on that point Henry, I know you know my history, but surely they would want the likes of me to praise their antics, I've missed your point or am i being incredibly thick here?

I was joking E, so yes you were being incredibly thick : - )

For those who've said they won't be taking their kids to the Millwall match, is this really because of what happened on saturday?
Smoke flares were lit seats were broken toilets were smashed up cars in the street outside were damaged
None of this will happen in the home ends v Millwall.
If you don't want to take your kids because of the (very probable) likelihood that Millwall will be out for 'revenge' then i completely understand that, but i'm curious as to what events from saturdays game are making people now say they won't take their kids?
My boy is 11 there are 2 games I won't bring him to
Millwall and palace
The reason being he does not need to hear or see and feel the atmosphere of a football match that can be quite poisonous from what I hear there was a heavy atmosphere that was evident very early on
He will be old enough one day to understand this better

I stopped going to local derbys a few years ago. These game do attract more younger fans than normal games. This is a fact so don't try and tell me its only normal STH and fans who come to as many games as they can afford.
I have seen fights on the streets at these games and NEVER in 30 years of following the addicks at non derby games. This means the police presence is higher and they are less friendly and helpful. The whole atmosphere is one of tension and that is not what I go to games for.
Even in the 80s when violence was common it tended to happen away from the ground and if you weren't involved you only heard about it after. Now it seems to happen in and around the ground.
You ask for a reason and here it is.
Whether you agree, think I'm over reacting or think I must be a coward is up to you. It is a decision I made based on going to the games and not enjoying them.
Am I happy to have made this decision? Of course not. I would much rather the thug element do one and leave me to take full advantage of my ST for all the matches.
However, I don't expect knowing this will make them stop, and any replies wont make me go.
Haven't read all but sounds like the usual holier than thou brigade whinging - our support did us proud yesterday - before and after. We may have lost on the pitch but if there were points for fans - we would have won hands down. It's football, it's a local derby - what do people expect?
