I was at the Palace and pissed off because the old bill are treating us this way because of the growing number of these incidents with Charlton away, even at places like Burnley.

Well all this guarantees
- A bill from Palace for the damage caused
- More future police attendance at our games in future (which we have to pay for)
But that's fine, as we have loads of spare cash haven't we ?!?
Oh, and zero chance of the game being 3pm next season.0 -
I cant believe the number of fans who think its perfectly ok to vandalise and behave like animals and then hide and snigger behind PCs and mobiles at other proper peoples genuine concerns.
Perhaps if i came round and smashed their cars and their house to pieces they would be happy, after all vandalism and burglaries have been going on for years so its perfectly acceptable.0 -
I read this thread and despair, I really do.0

To add to the one stolen from The Den????Solidgone said:....and why would a Charlton supporter want take home a broken Palarse seat??

Remember last season the club and Police were investigating sections of our away support, after complaints, and subsequently took actions against certain people - I remember a couple of nasty bits of work at Walsall. I presume there were plain clothed Policemen amongst the Charlton supporters on Saturday...0

Sorry but you clearly do agree that violence has got worse. Nobody has said that football violence is worse than ever or football violence is a new thing. Everybody has said that recently violence at football has got worse.SE10 said:Never understood all the posts about football violence getting worse.
I'd say in the 70's and 80's and 90's at a push, you wouldn't bat an eyelid at cars being smashed etc. Not condoning it but you hear of stories even on here of Charlton smashing up and looting town centres in the 70's, it was probably common place then when teams took a large following.
Obviously died out a bit in the 00's but fv has and always will go on (albeit a much smaller scale), it's just that football is so sterile these days the smaller incidents are noticed more especially at clubs like Charlton.
Not a dig, but I suspect theres a fair few supporters on here who started following Charlton in the premiership years where lets be honest it is very sterile. Definitely been more incidents this season but thats just the division imo, local derbys like Palace and Milwall then lots of other teams with bad reps. These games will be more attractive for 95% of people more than the likes of Barnsley and Yeovil.
Given that you agree it went down in 2000 and is there now, you do agree it has got worse {since the turn of the century}. Which is all anyone has suggested.

I don't get the point you're trying to make. How does that imply these people aren't fans?Ormiston Addick said:

Because a 'fan' wouldnt do something that will cost the club both financially and reputationally perhaps ?0

Agreed. Of course they are supporters, otherwise they wouldn't bother going. Difference is they just lack a few brain cells compared to those supporters who aren't committing such acts.Jarman said:

the smashing of vehicles and facilitys do nothing to enhance the reputation of our club both in football and non footballing ways therefore for me was a fruitless excersise
to be known as fans who cause willfull and expensive damage to innocent non like minded individuals is against the whole argument of what those involved wants to achieve
however it has happened historically at this fixture for years0 -

No. I just said it's alot more noticeable in the sterile enviroment modern football is, also normally a few hours after anything has happened it will end up being discussed on the internet.DRF said:

Look at all the drama about Saturday and I don't think there was a punch thrown all day. Again, not condoning it but toilets and seats being damaged has happened at pretty much every Palace game I can remember.0 -
There was a time a few years back, when many of us were proud of our good reputation. Sterile seems such a negative word for something we should be proud of and aspire too. I don't mean singing and supporting the team btw- there shouldn't be any link with that and smashing up some innocent bloke's car.0

no need to be a dick,I simply didn't understand your point and now I do. I didn't do any damage on saturday before you jump to conclusions nor am I condoning it,never once damaged a stadium when following Charlton. As someone has mentioned they didn't say "this is for charlton" and then smash a seat,it was more likely just mindless vandalism. So a different type of supporter to you,but still a supporterOrmiston Addick said:

Please quote some of these fans then? Spot on, some seem to think that to criticise the Polices ridiculous handling of the situation is to condone the behaviour of the small number of idiots. It isn't and its possible to criticise both.Michaelmon said:

Left a bit before the end on Saturday to avoid what I knew would be a lot of trouble, partly because I was with my son.
Things have definately got more of an edge to them this season than in recent years. Having been to both Millwall and Palace this season, I don't think I will in the future. I'll sing along like a good'un but chocking on flare smoke and listening to c*nt, c*nt, w*nker, c*nt all game in my ear just isn't my idea of a fun Saturday out. I guess I just don't hate enough.0 -
I am seriously thinking about whether to take my son to the Millwall game. I think that is incredibly sad.0
-
I'm not condoning what happened on Saturday but do we really have a new breed of supporter? Going back to the 1970's I can remember being at games where Charlton fans would go on the rampage, jumping on cars and smashing windows (Gillingham in the Kent Cup, Brighton and Aldershot spring to mind). So it isn't a new breed of supporter, IMHO, it's just a different generation.TEL said:

From the outside I think it was NLA who made a very good point that the demographic of our support is changing, the kids are coming through & so our support becomes younger more boisterous, more rowdy - less respectable if you like. If you were 6 at the time of the play-offs, you'd be 20 now. There isn't really much of a reason why our natural support wouldn't mirror to a small extent that of Millwall or West Ham as we are drawing from the same areas..we might have the moderating influence of the older generation & less of a reputation to attract the nutters, but I think the changes are inevitable & becoming more apparent season upon season.Valley McMoist said:

As VM says above, a different generation - but the first time we have had this generation for a long time.
