New Breed of Supporter

  • Football has always attracted sad inadequate people who have no respect for others - this applies to all clubs.
What saddens me the most are the pathetic f***ers in their 40s and 50s who have the temper tantrums of a two year old - sad sad people.
  • There was a few lads there that are arsenal and west ham 'supporters' who came with a charlton fan.

Pretty sure someone on here said they knew the bloke that was videod ripping up the seat, and he isn't a charlton fan.
  • I stopped going to Palace and Millwall at home and away about four years ago when I noticed that those games attracted a load of fans who are never seen at any other games (and I know this as most of them try and sing songs that they don't know the words to) and an increase in police who want to make everyone's day less enjoyable.

I have a season ticket so I waste money by not going to the home games but the lack of proper fans makes it not worth the effort. I would just like to say thanks to the stupid pricks who have bought about this situation.

Please continue to never bother coming to any other games.
  • VG the fella ripping the seat at millwall was 100% Cafc

Don't understand why he decided to chuck it at his own fans.

Very unfair to talk about the police like that.

  • @ ValleyGary everyone there yesterday go everyweek not just Palace and Millwall

Not sure if you're joking or not. If you're serious, I don't understand, as you said you didn't go.
For the record, I go to most aways & didn't recognise loads yesterday.
I'm not saying they aren't Charlton, but they are certainly not the regulars that follow Charlton away most weeks.

    LOL

  • I was in the Prince George for an hour and half before the match. There was a group of kids, no older than 20 and about 20-30 of them. They were rowdy but were singing CAFC songs and causing no real mischief, the bar staff kept turning the music up the louder they sang. I'm 32 and have followed Charlton since my Dad took me to my first game when we were at Selhurst, so I like seeing a new generation coming up and supporting my team.

My main concern was when we left the pub and walked to the ground we were 20 yards behind these lads. They were knocking tyres from a garage into the road and pulled a mattress from one of the grubby houses front gardens. When they turned round and saw me and my brother they asked who we were, as in Charlton or Palace and seemed content with the Charlton answer. One of them then told me that he is a Spurs fan and his old man is Millwall but he's here with mates as it's Palace away and they can cause some shit, as it were. So, my main problem is that as much as there were Charlton fans being bell ends, coupled withe police debacle at the end, there are people that have no connection with our club and are tarnishing the reputation of our club. I have never minded being ribbed by Spurs mates and others about our family reputation and as they would put it, 'no firm'. That made us unique in my eyes and something to be pretty proud of. I'm all for the abuse of Palace and other rivals through song and to be honest, quite enjoyed the flare yesterday although can see why others didn't. But...I'd hate our fans to become known as the general pricks that the likes of Millwall etc are. I'd like to think we're better than that, I'd like to think we're Charlton.

Sorry for the essay, this was my first I pad visit since leaving that hellhole yesterday.
  • How / why are fans of other clubs getting tickets for these games?

  • Major over reaction, it's happened at two games for god sake, stop acting like it happens all the time.

Two games too many Mr GJ.

  • We was in the Prince George about 20 or so of us singing and stuff, when we were walking to the ground I didn't see no one throwing stuff on the way to the ground and if it was one of our lot me and a few others would have been quick to say turn it in.

Not saying what you saw was untrue, just saying I'm not sure it would have been one of us lot?

All the knobs come out for millwall and palace away

And all the Palace knobs come to the Valley (flare)

Millwall are mostly just nobs wherever they go.

And if "..all the Palace knobs come to the Valley (flare)" its okay for all the CAFC "nobs" go to selhurst ?
Rather we had no idiots at-all.
My (ex) missus & myself had to put up with "nobs" at away games. Can't be bothered anymore.

I think some people on here are massively naive to think there wasn't going to be any sort of trouble yesterday. Especially after millwall. There's a different crowd at these games, it's to be expected.
The police were to heavy handed and arrogant beyond belief. I come from a family of police officers and before yesterday had some respect for them at footy games. Not anymore! I was towards the front with 3k fans behind me edging me forward and the ob screaming in my face and a dog trying to bite my bollocks off. Do they really think they had any sort of control? Yes obviously they need a police presence there but as said above treat people like animals you will get animals.
My mate was assaulted by a policeman he's number was taken and he will be reported.

    Mr "Agim".
As you come "from a family of police officers" I'm sure you will report the policeman's number and, with respect, you will get a reply. Please keep us informed.

If that was you then I enjoyed you boys and girls in the boozer. It was only on the way up to the ground that I saw the 2 or 3 lads doing this and chatted to the Spurs/Millwall oik. I know they had left the George. He may have been the only one not Charlton but no smoke without fire, or a flare :)

With you on this one, CE. Those "fans" might go to home games but definitely not "every" away one. Few enough of us go regularly & think we probably know each other pretty much.

Steve- how on earth can you know who was doing what yesterday when you were at work ? Have your acquaintances been bragging by any chance ?

  • It was like going back to the 80s yesterday - with all the good, bad and ugly that brings. Very outnumbered as a woman, heavy handed OB, terribly basic facilities in the ground, all standing, great singing, usual crap result at Selhurst away and threatening atmosphere with some mindless vandalism from a few idiots at the end. Enjoyable in a nostalgic way until the last two points!
  • Posting without reading so forgive me if any of this is repeated .Where I was I saw a wooden seat smashed,as i left the ground thought better have a leak before i leave .Well walked into the toilet and was confronted with a floor of piss and water guy doing a bit of DIY on the sink and it's unit one guy doing the pipe work ,cubicles where recked .Managed to find a spot that hadn't been vandalised by the exit as i was going people were trying to pull the copper pipe off the wall next to me and they were not young they were aged between 30-40.Totally unexceptable but why wasn't there an officer or 2 in there making sure nothing got vandalised they must of had an idea it would be trashed .As for the OB outside and that metal wall bit over the top IMO .
  • My first ever Palace away game was in the early eighties, it was a boxing day fixture, I went with my Dad we stood in that poxy little corner. My memory of that match was Charlton jumping from the seats above the old standing section, into the standing section and having it with Palace, then being turfed out and marched up the terrace past the away fans. The season we left the valley over there, Charlton all went into the Arthur Wait about 20 minutes before kick off and it went off again. A new breed of Charlton fan yesterday ? Nope as I originally said been going off for as long as I can remember, the only difference is we have hardly spent 2 seasons in the same division with them over the past 30 seasons. So I change my statement they go everyweek, as our away following as ooh aah states shows they plainly don't, but to suggest because there was trouble at Palace it is a new breed is rubbish because it's gone on everytime I have ever been there, the only thing that has changed is the policing off the game.

Yeah mate, had a good laugh in there.

Well if it was one of us then apologies if they caused any offence or anything mate

It's Palace away get over it been happening for Donkey's years nothing new here, move on.

exactly ...don't pretend its new and our fans have suddenly changed ...same happened in the 70's, 80's etc etc.

And I'm not posting to justify anything ...just pointing out it is has always been this way at selhurst.
In fact it was far, far worse in the 70's things wont change as far as local rivalries are concerned.

  • I haven't been to both of those dumps this season (but have been to most of those games since the mid 80s) and apart from a ruck at Palace a few years ago I cannot remember the smashing up of cars outside the grounds previously.

Football is changing but so is violence in society. If the value of life to some is cheap then that makes property worthless.

Started going to games in the 70s and there's no comparison with now - fighting was the norm back then and most grounds were shitholes.

Never understood all the posts about football violence getting worse.

I'd say in the 70's and 80's and 90's at a push, you wouldn't bat an eyelid at cars being smashed etc. Not condoning it but you hear of stories even on here of Charlton smashing up and looting town centres in the 70's, it was probably common place then when teams took a large following.

Obviously died out a bit in the 00's but fv has and always will go on (albeit a much smaller scale), it's just that football is so sterile these days the smaller incidents are noticed more especially at clubs like Charlton.

Not a dig, but I suspect theres a fair few supporters on here who started following Charlton in the premiership years where lets be honest it is very sterile. Definitely been more incidents this season but thats just the division imo, local derbys like Palace and Milwall then lots of other teams with bad reps. These games will be more attractive for 95% of people more than the likes of Barnsley and Yeovil.

Well I can remember our lot smashing up shopping centres, looting, jumping on car roofs etal....and it wasnt just against local teams. And the violence was wholesale back then, you ran the risk of getting caught up in a fight at every game, not just the high profile ones.

yeah but with a south london club youve got to expect more people at palace and millwall that that cant make it up north, from what i saw the support was the best all season and did us proud, bar the few doing cars in
  • Well all this guarantees

    - A bill from Palace for the damage caused
    - More future police attendance at our games in future (which we have to pay for)

But that's fine, as we have loads of spare cash haven't we ?!?

Oh, and zero chance of the game being 3pm next season.

    And/or a smaller allocation.
  • Will al these idiots talking about defending fans if attacked, attacked by who. The violence I saw came from people who pretend to be Charlton supporters. Destroying toilets or seats at opposition team s grounds is not supporting the club, it is the mentality that gave rise to last years riots, there is no excuse. I was at the Palace and pissed off because the old bill are treating us this way because of the growing number of these incidents with Charlton away, even at places like Burnley.

please don't say 'pretend to be charlton supporters'. These people paid their money, sang their hearts out for our club. Vandalism was bang out of order but doesn't make anyone less of a fan.
