Appears to have had an inflated idea of his worth to put it politely!

Also, as Fiiiiiiish said, Clive really doesn't seem to have the faintest idea that he's such a hero to us. It was very interesting to hear him talk and from what he was saying, it appears he had a great work ethic. Also worth noting that he said every game at The Valley that season was a pleasure, that the crowd were fantastic and the team as a whole always looked forward to the home games for that reason. Nice to also hear that Steve historically felt we were a big club. From what they both said, the squad that season were very 'together'. Seems that Curbs had built a great team with a great attitude and they believed in themselves.

Sounds like a great night. If I had been in the country I think I would have gone to this. Mendonca, in my opinion, was class. Defo a Charlton legend.

No Len, just Steve and Clive. As Fiiiiiiish said, that was adequate and Steve said getting them together is a headache. Clive said he sees Youdsie from time to time, apparently he lives in Blackheath. Roofs had signed some photos though.

  • It would be a great sight to see the 98 team on the pitch before we pick-up the league title trophy at the Hartlepool game.

This was a brilliant night and well worth the money. Steve Jones was just like a mate you'd meet in the pub, loved the banted and a few beers and had some great stories. Clive was on form and as Fiiish said, doesn't have a clue how loved he is down at the Valley!! When asked if he'd come back for when we lift the trophy he actually looked a bit choked that we'd want that. Hopefully the club can sort something to get his down for the Hartlepool game so we can all cheer him one more time!!!!!

imagine the ovation Clive would get being introduced to the crowd at the last home game...
  • That's a fantastic idea

Who wants to take this up?

Would be good to have Superclive present the trophy or does it have to be a league official?

That's given me goosebumps even thinking about the crowd singing 'Super, super Clive...' at the Hartlepool game. What a legend.

I met Clive at the valley once and had my photo taken with him. remember at the time thinking how slightly built he was. Was really nice bloke and he was responsible for the worst hangover I have ever had. I am of the opinion we became a serious football club when Gray missed his penalty. The club should acknowledge that this man has iconic status amongst the supporters who really care for this club. The M

I'd rather give the current squad the adulation at the last game to be honest.

Not a reflection on my views of Clive but I just don't think it would be the right time or place.

tend to take this view as well. as good as it would be to see clive, the current bunch have played out of their skin all seasons, we should be singing their names

Why restrict it to Clive etc? This should be a club and team celebration - wheel out Killer, Flash, Colin Walsh and anyone else - as part of the pre-match build up that would get the day off to a great start.

  • i loved clive and everything he done for us but why should any of the 98 team or the championship winning team 2 seasons later have anything to do with the celebrations for this team

Same here ... paid 17 Feb, sent chaser emails three times (to Steve Speroni) and not one response ... feel like I've been ripped off which leaves a bad taste in the mouth when this was meant to be a fund-raiser for Clive.

Anyone know Steve Jones email address? Perhaps he'll respond.

Good idea but don't leave Killer & Flash on their own in the centre circle :-)
