I doubt an 'Evening with Marcus Bent' would see many tickets.
Marcus would turn up take the ticket money and be excellent for the first 5 minutes after which he would lose interest and stop answering questions and leave . . .He would then move on to another question and answer session run by another club.
Lol.
Good luck Steve and Clive with this. Thanks for both contributing immensley to the best day of my entire life.
i did sell my medal few years and it reached an incredible £3800 & my shirt reached £1700 which i was shocked that they got that much, also clive and i havent got lots of money im running a youth football clube with 15 teams www.langdonpumas.com & working in my local tescos! clive unemployed & looking for work but as we all know its grim up north work wise...!! thanks steve
Good luck to them both. No compulsion to go, sounds like a good drink-up if you do, looking forward to reading a report from anyone here who goes. Sad for them that they just missed the bonanza years. Amdy bloody Faye...

It's really upsetting that 2 players of your stature have fallen on such hard times since leaving the game. I've said it already but I wish you both all the best in your endeavors present and future, gutted I cant make the evening
Steve - where were you in the list of penalty takers in the playoff final? I still can't believe Keith Jones took one!
Whenever I watch the penalty highlights I still think Shaun Newton is going to miss...that was the one that took my stress level way off the richter scale.

He took such a little run up! That match put me through the mincer
would like to have gone but a night out is just beyond my budget with the bournemouth game the next day already booked up. i would loved to have been able to go. i was 13 yearsold in 98 and what you boys who achieved what seemed the impossible only a few years earlier had become heroes of mine and makes me sad that you have fallen on hard times. it would have been like meeting old childhood friends. best of luck with the evening.

Went with my son and had two platinum tickets as a birthday present for him. The play off final was the game that turned my son, then aged 13, totally to Charlton and Clive is his sporting hero. It's my sons birthday on wednesday and I wasn't sure exactly how much time we'd get with Clive and Steve so I kept it a bit of a surprise from my son. For me, the night was made seeing my sons face when he was face to face with Clive. It was like seeing a 5 year old with his presents on Christmas Day. That alone made the cost of the tickets worth every penny. On top of that, Clive is a top bloke, down to earth, no airs and graces and very easy to talk to. He has probably been asked the same questions many times by fans over the years but answered every one as if it were the first time he'd been asked them. I think somewhere in the region of 15 people had platinum tickets and we were in a separate room to where the Q&A took place and had around an hour and a half to be able to speak with Clive and Steve, had a choice of top quality photgraphs and had plenty of time to get shirts, programmes, whatever signed. Also a buffet was served.
Steve did say that it was a fairly expensive venue and that obviously contributed to the price of the tickets, but he felt that a pub wasn't quite the place for the occasion.
As for Steve, again, a top bloke, different character to Clive but no less entertaining. Some good stories told and after a slow start to the Q&A the questions then started rolling.
We had roughly 45 mins for the first half of the Q&A, a 15 minute break and then back in for an auction of some canvas prints and more questions etc. Came out some time after 11pm.
Was it worth it? For me yes, for the reasons above regarding my son and for me, well obviously Clive is a legend, but all of the team on that day were because they fulfilled the dream I'd had since I started watching Charlton in 1966, which was to see top flight football at The Valley and having said all that, I'm far from well off so the cost of the tickets was a stretch but we don't get to see Clive every week and my son was chuffed to bits. As he said on his FB last night prior to going, 'So excited, off to see super Clive Mendonca and Steve Jones tonight as a birthday present from my mum and dad. For those who don't know its the equivalent of meeting Ryan Giggs or Beckham this man is a Charlton legend' and he came away still feeling the same.
The only downside for me was the cost of the parking. £6.00 to get out. Daylight robbery, well, nighttime, but you get my drift.
I also went last night and was worth every penny and more. Steve and Clive were exactly how Brentford Addick described, easy to talk to and generally a great pair of blokes. As many have said this was the best game of my life and probably will ever be and to ask both of them what they thought of it was excellent.
Steve and Clive were the only guys there from the 98 final but that was more than decent. Rufus had signed alot of photos which had either him and Clive or him and Steve in which you could buy.
Would love to see more things like this happen with the old players but as Steve stated yesterday it is hard to get them in the same place for whatever reason.
One thing which really stuck with me was how Clive seemingly has no idea of how much he is a hero to some people. I said to him people would love to see him come back for a game, walk onto the pitch at half time and clap him. But he was surprised. Very humble and the exact kind of character which made us love that squad.
