Shit Town…. Shit Stadium…amazing what 20 mil can buy you….will not shed a tear when Hollywood walks away and they fall back down the leagues
Thought the town was alright tbf. Would be a cracking away day drink under different circumstances
Some nice pubs. The one thing I feel jealous about with "one club towns" is the feeling that the whole town is behind the club, with the town centre full of home fans before and after games, whereas we don't have any of that.
Yep. Been saying it since Feb. Madness decision especially then saying we're turn to the youth team if we need to.
£2m would have got you Sam Smith in January & most likely 2nd tonight.
But we decided we could turn to Mbick & Kanu. Nothing against the 2 young lads but you could see today it was men against boys out there.
Doubt it... We'd have been forced to compete with Wrexham on wages as well
But its easy to throw other people's money around
If I recall correctly we were very very very close to having Smith the summer before this before Reading had one of their embargoes lifted so it would have been a free

Correct - The rumour was that he wanted to go back to Reading, because of "unfinished business"

So once again you decide facts are not important in your posts. In January, we had Leaburn, Godden, Chuks, Kanu, Ahadme and Campbell, I will leave Hylton out of that list. So that's six forwards, I've been going to Charlton since 1968 and you, Golfie, not long after, please tell me when we had seven first team forwards on our books and whilst you are it find me another club that has that same number, it never happened even when we were in the premier league, if anything at most clubs it's probably four, maximum.
The same number, you say? Wrexham have Fletcher, Rodriguez, Marriott, Palmer, Mullin, Smith and Faul. The youngest, Faul, is 22, and has 87 league appearances behind him. None of them has had the injury problems of Chuks, and none of them are Gas Ahadme.
I happen to agree with @ForeverAddickted that it's easy to throw other people's money around, and January is rarely the time to splash money unless you already have the squad structure very much in place, which Wrexham did. We were very mucha work-in-progress.
But you need to make sure you have got your facts together before dissing others, even the hapless Golfie.

I get that with him tbh , academy product that never really got a proper go the first time round there. One of those as soon as Reading were interested it was only ever going to be them.
Don't think this ownership would ever have sanctioned £2m on a player anyway when he was available again. Undoubtedly a very good player at this level
A comfortable win for Wrexham, they did to us what we did to Wycombe on Monday.
We looked toothless up front, no attacking ideas other than hitting it into areas, and hoping for the best. And yes Ahadme has been really disappointing, but Mbick looked like who he is, and 18 year old kid.
Combine that with an unfit Jones, and it was an easy game for Wrexham.
The good news is that a Stockport win next Saturday will mean two legs against Wycombe, the weakest of the playoff teams.
That works for me. I'll wager all I own we'd get past Wycombe.
I’m not too down after that to be honest. I’d always thought 2nd was a very long shot from our starting position in December. Frankly to make the play offs from where we were is a remarkable achievement.
I just hope NJ risking Lloyd Jones today doesn’t back fire on us. To use the Wycombe managers vocabulary we gave away two soft goals and after that there was no way back. Of course we missed Berry and Small massively today and losing the latter especially greatly affects the way we play.
Contrary to others views I do think it vital to get the second leg at home. As a player mentioned the other day the Covered End can suck the ball in. In some areas our lack of strength in depth is frustrating but if the whole squad is fit and we can get our first eleven on the pitch to start with we can beat any of the other teams in the play offs.
One big disappointment today was that our Captain didn’t turn up. When players like Mbick and Kanu come on they need their Captain to help pull them through it. And for what it’s worth, Coventry is better than the bloke with the stupid top knot.
We'd had won it if we had not bought Ahadme. I mean, where is he ?? Is he injured?? If not then is he that bad that Mbick (no league goals) and Kanu (just back from 2 injuries) can get on front of him.
The fact that the 2nd half season run had been carried up front by mainly Godden alone is remarkable. Leaburn had a couple of good games once fit but no other striker had been worth their salt.
The issue isnt that we sold Alfie.....the issue is that we didnt replace him fully enough & also went into the season relying on 2 unfit/injured strikers (Aneke & Leaburn).
No we didn't, Leaburn and Aneke hardly featured as first team starters. The first part of our season had a forward line of Ahadme and Campbell, Godden was getting over an injury but once back to full fitness he took over from an injured Ahadme and over the season Godden and Campbell have been our first choice. Leaburn's first starting appearance was 22nd October away to Barnsley and Chuks has never started a game. Leaburn has started 11 games, Chuks has started none.
Their press left us chasing scraps for much of the game. Three great finishes, while none of our half chances amounted to much. Automatic promotion was a big ask and in the end, our autumn form left us too much to do. But we bounced back from Rotherham and Peterborough, so let's hope we've got this out of our system. Finally, congratulations to Wrexham. I know we talk about the money and the actors, but Wrexham fans went down the plug hole with their team and while I wanted us to go up ahead of them, they showed today why they are promoted.

Spot on. That's exactly what we've been saying all day. Could feel the buzz as soon as we got off the train in Wrexham.
Gutted we couldn’t make a better game of it. Two goals from Smith runs hit the team hard. Didn’t get enough control of the ball in the midfield battles and TC muscled out of it too easily, Watson had some good runs but no final ball. Jones not at full strength a concern, and with the switch to long ball we didn’t really cause too much trouble for them either. Need to regroup, refocus on the playoffs, get key personnel back, and get back to what we’ve been doing so well recently.
Well done to Wrexham. Their fans must have enjoyed their display, they deserved the win on the day. Though I thought the place was a dump to be honest, and I was amazed to see a visitors centre in the town.
Too many square pegs in round holes. Finished with four strikers, two DMs and left footed Gilbert seemingly RWB, although pub did switch to boxing when 3rd went in so can't be sure. We all know MG cant play in the middle of a three, why doesn't NJ?
Jones had to go off to save him for the play offs so obviously Macca going to go CB and he did ok as the game had gone and Smith was on fire. The usual OTT about our win at Wycombe, now the same about the loss against Wrexham.
Great achievement by Parky to get 3 promotions in a row despite having the luxury of 7 experienced strikers to pick from!
Yeah, lucky old him. Just imagine if he decided to go with a streamlined squad in January & not sign Sam Smith.
14 days to the play off first leg, so I get the Jones risk, especially if with rest he’s ok for that game. Hopefully the others can rested through till then and it should be ok
In reality, the only result for us today was a win, if we could have achieved that, we still could have beaten Burton and after the ninety found that Wrexham had secured the win they needed at Lincoln and the feeling of entering the play offs with that disappointment hanging over us would, in my opinion, play against us. If I had a gripe about today, it was probably the decision to play Lloyd Jones, he was all over the place and trying to play offside, something he never normally does, left us with a mountain to climb. Did we play badly ? not really, it was more a case of going through the motions as we knew that we would have to score three to overcome Wrexham, unlikely and leaving our players open to injury trying to do so. Wrexham deserved to get the second place and neither Wycombe, Charlton or Stockport can argue with that.
Awful performance. Totally bottled it after the first went in, and that defending from the corner was appalling.
Anderson dreadful, TC anonymous and the subs showed just how little depth we've got. Lloyd Jones looked clearly injured so if he's out with Berry and Small then I don't have much faith in us getting through the playoffs.
I thought TC was our best outlet and chance of getting back in it. Jones fit for play offs is looking pretty vital but I'm still confident we can do it

???. That's what I'm saying. We've mainly relied on 1 striker this season......Godden. TC isn't a striker and the rest have either been injured or not very good.
We are now going into the play offs with Mbick & Kanu as back up strikers. Leaburn is our for the season & Aneke will miss the first leg.
Perhaps Nathan will fnow look fo the key to the closet & let Ahadme out.
You have to ask again, with Jones injured why the hell isn’t Mitchell getting game time?
Think the chances of him still being here next season are zero
I'm starting to see a pattern. You get the wrong side of NJ and you are frozen out. It started with May, and had followed on with Ahadme & Mitchell. Then there are fringe players like Gilbert & Dixon who should have featured more.

The day started so brightly, watching Wycombe lose, but all downhill from there. I feared it wasn't gonna end well as soon as I saw the starting 11. Anderson can be a great impact sub, but he's not a starter for me, especially in a game like this, where we had to win and be on the front foot from the start. Watson is an okay squad player as a RB, but he's not suited for an attacking wingback role........even though he probably had our best chance of scoring all game. Not impressed with any of our CM's today and TC looked completely lost out there and only managed to stay on the pitch because of enforced subs needed in other positions.
Still, nevermind. We'll get our revenge on Wrexham next season in the championship.

Same applies to Wrexham not sure their current squad will survive it as it currently stands.
