What's the danger that both Wycombe and Stockport will decide to play for the draw to secure that home second leg? Or will they both go for the win in hopes of avoiding a particular team in the semi final?
The way Wycombe are playing atm I dont think they can even draw a game !
We have to win next Sat otherwise we will end up 5th and if so will most likely play Wycombe.
I'd be fine with that. I would rest a lot of players for Saturday personally. I know you can lose momentum but we have until May 10th for the first Play off match. That is just over two weeks to get all the levels as high as we can. I don't care if the first leg is at home or away if it is against Wycombe. Wycombe is my preference and that is out of our hands and in the hands of them and Stockport.
As for today, we had a couple of players out and Jones not fully fit and lost it when we conceded the first. No problem, it happens. Not often and no need to overreact.
Nobody in our spine turned up today - they all looked overawed. Our GK allowed a poor effort, Jones shipped the second, Doch did little, Coventry was so poor, and Godden barely touched the ball. You can make excuses for all of them, of course, but they don't need it.
I thought Wrexham were much better than us at The Valley, and they were much better today. They're stronger and more physical all over the pitch, with more quality going forwards. Dobson's performance was particularly galling, he was everywhere and has such quality on the ball.
Let's be honest, based on the whole of the season, we don't deserve 2nd. But against the play-offs cohort, we have a decent chance.
Not sure having Berry and Small in the team would have made any difference. The hope that Wrexham would feel the pressure was wide of the mark, they fed off it. No shame in losing to a better side, we were bullied out of it in the first 20 minutes and the game was over.
A dent to our confidence but a timely wake up call for the playoffs and the intensity we'll face.
I thought that was a difficult watch. You have to give credit where it is due, Wrexham were at it for the full 90, with lots of energy and they were clinical when it mattered.
But we were also very poor today. If we are missing key players in the playoffs we won't get far at all. The lack of depth really showed. If we have our strongest 11 available then I think we're the best side in the playoffs.
That was an absolutely awful performance today, chance to really go for it when we had nothing to lose and we put in a totally toothless display and allowed Wrexham to stroll through the 90 mins in first gear.
2nd place was always a long shot and didn't think we'd win today, but really disappointed in the performance.
Yep. Been saying it since Feb. Madness decision especially then saying we're turn to the youth team if we need to.
£2m would have got you Sam Smith in January & most likely 2nd tonight.
But we decided we could turn to Mbick & Kanu. Nothing against the 2 young lads but you could see today it was men against boys out there.
So once again you decide facts are not important in your posts. In January, we had Leaburn, Godden, Chuks, Kanu, Ahadme and Campbell, I will leave Hylton out of that list. So that's six forwards, I've been going to Charlton since 1968 and you, Golfie, not long after, please tell me when we had seven first team forwards on our books and whilst you are it find me another club that has that same number, it never happened even when we were in the premier league, if anything at most clubs it's probably four, maximum.

We don’t match up well against Stockport who are similar to Wrexham but not as much quality….hope we avoid them
Thing is, talk of resting players for Burton is all well and good but we can't afford to lose that one, in fact we need to really get stuck into them and show no mercy because anything less than a very convincing win could prove disastrous for confidence and moral going into the playoffs. Today has to be treated as a literal kick up the arse big time, we were bullied and outrun by a team no better than us, but we just capitulated and lost our shape far too early in the game. So yes pissed off big time like everyone else, but we need to show strength and courage because I still think we have it in us to finish the season well with another Wembley win...🏆
We'd had won it if we had not bought Ahadme. I mean, where is he ?? Is he injured?? If not then is he that bad that Mbick (no league goals) and Kanu (just back from 2 injuries) can get on front of him.
The fact that the 2nd half season run had been carried up front by mainly Godden alone is remarkable. Leaburn had a couple of good games once fit but no other striker had been worth their salt.
The issue isnt that we sold Alfie.....the issue is that we didnt replace him fully enough & also went into the season relying on 2 unfit/injured strikers (Aneke & Leaburn).
Can’t get upset about today, good performance from a very good side, we got beat, big deal! 2nd place was always a huge ask and still needed a shed load of luck, Burton don’t matter, rest everyone, Wycombe in the playoffs😊 Stockport at Wembley is how I see it.
Hopefully the occasion and the size of the pitch will upset Stockport🤞 Whatever, the best season since Bowyer’s promotion team
Shit Town…. Shit Stadium…amazing what 20 mil can buy you….will not shed a tear when Hollywood walks away and they fall back down the leagues.
Sour grapes. I dont see the 2 "'stars" pulling out anytime soon & most likely will back Parkinson in the summer so they stay up. Probably spend £10m-£15m on a few players & get mid table.
Am I right in saying a win next week will guarantee us 4th irrespective of the Wycombe v Stockport result?
Depends on the results
Stockport or Wycombe win then yes we get fourth
Stockport and Wycombe draw... then it depends on our result
- 7-0 win and we get third from Stockport - 6-0 win and we get fourth from Wycombe
The score line was the worst aspect of the defeat today, as our Goal Difference which we did well to claw back against Wycombe, has been destroyed now, meaning that a draw between those two doesn't do anything for us.
Too many square pegs in round holes. Finished with four strikers, two DMs and left footed Gilbert seemingly RWB, although pub did switch to boxing when 3rd went in so can't be sure. We all know MG cant play in the middle of a three, why doesn't NJ?
Jones had to go off to save him for the play offs so obviously Macca going to go CB and he did ok as the game had gone and Smith was on fire. The usual OTT about our win at Wycombe, now the same about the loss against Wrexham.
Great achievement by Parky to get 3 promotions in a row despite having the luxury of 7 experienced strikers to pick from!

Doubt it... We'd have been forced to compete with Wrexham on wages as well
But its easy to throw other people's money around.
Indeed it is. But then of you dont spend where does that get you ? No point buying a loss making club & not spend to get promoted. Stay in League 1 & the losses will mount.
Today showed what ambitious owners can achieve. They brought in Smith in January and we brought in.......? Our lot still think they can just use the Academy to bring us success - yeah, Anderson, Kanu - not quite in the Sam Smith class yet.

We spent money on Kirk, Fraser and others under Sandgaard... Got us no where
Wrexham paid all that money for individuals, and yet they're finishing above us by just a handful of points; Birmingham have scored ten more goals than us - Yes I know both are enjoying the fruits of promotion now - But throwing money at the problem is the "easy" way out.

No new injuries today
Gave 2 youngsters a run out

”they did the basics better than us, they were more clinical than us, and probably outworked us”
It was the risk of playing him though, and is likely why we didn't play Small / Berry
