  • Nobody anywhere near our first team should be involved next week for me. We know we now following that have potentially a 3 game tournament to define the season.
  • Their first goal, all our players in our box, no one picking up the scorer on the edge. Uphill battle from then on.

So we send out the U21's, get spanked by  Burton, and that's supposed to inspire confidence...🙄

    Relegated?!
  • On another thread a few days ago I said I wouldn't mind Ahadme off the bench, and I'm sticking to that opinion after today

Bloody hell your quick, amended it...🙄
  • You have to ask again, with Jones injured why the hell isn’t Mitchell getting game time?

Think the chances of him still being here next season are zero
I'm starting to see a pattern. You get the wrong side of NJ and you are frozen out. It started with May, and had followed on with Ahadme & Mitchell.  Then there are fringe players like Gilbert & Dixon who should have featured more.
Dixon doesn't look ready to me.
Do Mbick and a rusty Kanu look more ready?

Don't forget Dixon has actively been playing for Jamaica when called up already.

Think I’m going to have a break from here until the first leg - two hours since the final whistle and I’ve had enough of the Golfie whining already
I've seen plenty of others doing it too so unfair to call out one person.
Think we are all frustrated that we didn't turn up today but let's hope we can do it the hard way now.

Yeah, probably guilty as charged also, frustration as you say, be better after a good nights sleep hopefully...🤞

We'd have won that if we still had Alfie May.

We'd had won it if we had not bought Ahadme. I mean, where is he  ??  Is he injured??  If not then is he that bad that Mbick (no league goals) and Kanu (just back from 2 injuries) can get on front of him.

The fact that the 2nd half season run had been carried up front by mainly Godden alone is remarkable. Leaburn had a couple of good games once fit but no other striker had been worth their salt.

The issue isnt that we sold Alfie.....the issue is that we didnt replace him fully enough & also went into the season relying on 2 unfit/injured strikers (Aneke & Leaburn).
No we didn't, Leaburn and Aneke hardly featured as first team starters. The first part of our season had a forward line of Ahadme and Campbell, Godden was getting over an injury but once back to full fitness he took over from an injured Ahadme and over the season Godden and Campbell have been our first choice. Leaburn's first starting appearance was 22nd October away to Barnsley and Chuks has never started a game. Leaburn has started 11 games, Chuks has started none.
???. That's what I'm saying. We've mainly relied on 1 striker this season......Godden. TC isn't a striker and the rest have either been injured or not very good.

We are now going into the play offs with Mbick & Kanu as back up strikers. Leaburn is our for the season & Aneke will miss the first leg.

Perhaps Nathan will fnow look fo the key to the closet & let Ahadme out.
I hear you on their availability Golfie and yes we know Chuks will never start a game, as for Leaburn, we'll we all hoped that his injury problems were over, clearly they are not. The problem Charlton have is that we have Ahadme, Leaburn and Chuks under contract. According to figures released at the start of the season, Chuks is on £6400 a week, Ahadme on just over half of that and Miles on £4000 a week, Charlton's annual player wage bill being seven and a quarter million, to bring someone like Sam Smith in would be great but there is no way that the board would sanction that expenditure when we aleady have three forwards  drawing almost 15 grand a week. Mistakes have been made, Chuks on a four year deal, Ahadme not finding form but poor Miles struggling for full fitness is sheer bad luck. I would probably agree that Mbick is not ready but normally clubs like Charlton produce high quality youth products every ten years or so, the last crop produced Lookman, Konsa, Gomez and Pope and we have continued to produce players such as Karlan Grant, Docherty and Aribo in the meantime. It's only my opinion, but I think Charlton are better served by these players but you need a board and manager who can see those players as the way forward, I think we have that now, whatever happens this season.
  • Shame we couldn't retain the same level of fight and spite as we have over the last few matches. Never expected 2nd but we really need to be on it / on a roll for the playoffs.
  • It's amazing how quickly fan confidence can turn. Monday evening after a 4-0 battering of a top team we were planning our run to the Champions League final on here and then an away loss against the second best team in the division and there's stacks of people pulling out receipts on our recruitment, posters who haven't appeared on a post-match thread in months appearing to criticise and plenty of hand-wringing about how we'll lose in the Playoffs based on this performance. The internet age of football supporting is wild.

The important thing now is that we throw the game against Burton. We've proven we just can't win 4 in a row and beating Burton would set us up horribly for Wembley
We don’t have to win 4, 3, or even 2 in a row to go up!

It won’t be that team playing in the play offs so confidence won’t come into it. We need our players fit for the final three games , if they aren’t you can kiss goodbye of getting out of this awful league.

    Streamlined squad…🙁
Yep. Been saying it since Feb. Madness decision especially then saying we're turn to the youth team if we need to.

£2m would have got you Sam Smith in January & most likely 2nd tonight.

But we decided we could turn to Mbick & Kanu. Nothing against the 2 young lads but you could see today it was men against boys out there.
So once again you decide facts are not important  in your posts. In January, we had Leaburn, Godden, Chuks, Kanu, Ahadme and Campbell, I will leave Hylton out of that list. So that's six forwards, I've been going to Charlton since 1968 and you, Golfie, not long after, please tell me when we had seven first team forwards on our books and whilst you are it find me another club that has that same number, it never happened even when we were in the premier league, if anything at most clubs it's probably four, maximum.
The same number, you say? Wrexham have Fletcher, Rodriguez, Marriott, Palmer, Mullin, Smith and Faul. The youngest, Faul, is 22, and has 87 league appearances behind him. None of them has had the injury problems of Chuks, and none of them are  Gas Ahadme.

I happen to agree with @ForeverAddickted that it's easy to throw other people's money around, and January is rarely the time to splash money unless you already have the squad structure very much in place, which Wrexham did. We were very mucha work-in-progress.

But you need to make sure you have got your facts together before dissing others, even the hapless Golfie.
I would suggest that Wrexham's squad with that amount of forwards is rarity Prague and perhaps you can tell me when we had seven forwards on our books ? There is one other thing about Wrexham that doesn't fit with the norm, that's the age of their squad. They have done very well by getting three promotions and they would have every right to declare that their purchases were the right ones, but they will have to replace a good majority of that squad as, in the majority of cases, they are the wrong side of thirty by a good margin and that will cost. They have some serious decisions to make this summer, good luck to them and I hope it works out but to purchase players able to thrive in the championship and balance the books will take some doing.
  • Of course it is disappointing, but better to know now than next Saturday when the disappointment might have been harder to swallow.
It is now all about preparing for the play offs, and accepting we might play away in the second leg of them.
I think we should realise how good and tough we can be, and face those games in a positive fashion.
We have Aneke available for the second leg, so there is that.

OK, I was referring to "The Club" with the confidence remark...
I am fully aware of the fitness thing and agree entirely, but the team need to get today out of their system, and the best way is a good performance against Burton, but yes some will need resting i agree.

    And Millwall.

Next week will prove if there is a God or not. Final game of the season & they need at least a point away to Burnley. If they beat them & get into the play offs I'm selling my soul to the devil.

If it's the U21's getting spanked then its only their confidence that will be dented.....not anyone from the 1st team.

None of them look ready but we have no other choice. And it's what NJ said we'd do if necessary.
