Bad day at the office. We have one of the best first XIs in the division, but I don't think we have the options when the chips are down. Game was a bit like last week in reverse; effectively settled by two classy goals early on. No complaints about the result, they deserved it. Just hope it's the Wycombe Charlton and not the Wrexham Charlton that turns up in the play offs.

Nowhere near our best but not surprising without the outlet of Small and Berry. Sam Smith was the clear difference though. Can't complain about that result.

Get them and Jones back fit for the playoffs and we're in with a very good shot

Why did we keep slipping over and they didn’t?
My guess is they watered the pitch a bit much? - Its their ground, their players would have known so made sure they had adequate footwear.

If thats the case though... Why didn't we?

Did we have a shot in anger?
    I can't remember it.
The occasion got to us. Wycombe losing put a whole new spin on this that I hadn't thought about.

Still. Dust ourselves down. Hopefully Jones has got them watching some of the celebrations and using it as a lever.
Have a free week next week. Rest a few. I'm really not arsed by who we play and when.
Need to get our heads right for it

Simply not good enough today. Need to forget that and get ready for the Play-Offs. Tempting to rest key players but a win next week gives us a good chance of 4th and a home 2nd leg. Interesting to see what NJ does.

Shame to see them go up. Comfortably the worst set of 'fans' in the league. An American in the home end spent the last 5-10 minutes rubbing it in our faces. His football knowledge was so poor that he thought that Wrexham finishing second today meant that we had been relegated to League Two!

Then queue a bunch of Liverpool fans, piggybacking onto Wrexham (who couldn't even get tickets as they didn't give a shit about the club before) being c**** in town.
  • Fair play to Wrexham they did what they needed and were probably better than us over the whole season. We did not have our best 11 starting. Anderson and Watson were poor and we offered little up front. Sky's biased commentary was annoying and they got what they wanted.

Need to sort injuries now so we have a chance. My only concern is Stockport but let's win next week and ensure we regain the momentum. COYA

Jones didn’t look fit. Not surprised he came off. Took a risk on him and it didn’t pay off. It looked like men against boys to me today. Wrexham totally controlled the game. They bought Smith and Rodriguez in January, who did we get?
Don’t like Wrexham but I have to say what they have done is remarkable.
I also thought that Nathan Jones comments before the game were ill advised.

Disappointing obviously but so it goes. Ultimately, probably thinking we could absorb the noise from the stands and then get at them, we let them dictate the opening proceedings and that did for us. We let them funnel the ball down our right like they wanted for 30 minutes and we paid dearly for it. We don't have a proper replacement for Small and it took far too long for Watson and Ramsay to figure out where they were supposed to be in the first half, either because Jones told Watson to sit deeper because of McClean or just because of his natural defensive mindset. That knocked on to Ramsay's positioning and we got caught out for both goals by him being out of line with his defenders and playing them onside. The nous in Rodriguez and Smith meant they took full advantage of it. It was annoying to concede two goals so quickly as we were never getting what we wanted out of a game where we needed 3 goals, not against this Wrexham side and their defensive record. Eventually Jones managed to get the message across that we should put the ball where we wanted it, not where they did and we started getting Campbell on the ball and looking dangerous. As often happens, show the opposition the need to double up on Campbell and when we do switch there's suddenly space down the other side and Watson had a great chance after a good run but couldn't convert. Failure to scare them with that goal before half time was the end, and they will have been laughing their holes off at the way we lofted the ball up into the box at an increasing array of children rather than try and stick out building something, though the injury to Lloyd forced that a bit. It was exactly what we would have wanted a team to do against us and it's a bit furstrating we didn't try to do something different.

I don't know what Wrexham did to their pitch today but our players spent more time on their backsides than their feet and that didn't help. Wrexham did to us exactly what we do to teams like Huddersfield, Peterborough, Barnsley, Orient and Bolton, being incredibly hard to score against and pouncing on chances when they appear. What we would have given for a Rodriguez, Matty James, McClean or Steven Fletcher today, players with a bit of experience at the top level who can see a game like that through comfortably. In the end we turned up at Wrexham needing to get a win against a team who have lost twice at home all season and a couple of silly mistakes meant it was beyond us after 18 minutes. Now we just need to be the toughest bastards left over in the Playoffs. Stockport, Wycombe, Orient and Reading can't boast anything like the budgets the top 2 can and we just have to be the best of that lot through hard work and grit. It's deflating but we've run out of road to reach top 2. Now to be the 3rd best at the end of it all.

I think we have as good a chance as any team in the playoffs IF we get Small and Berry back and Jones who needs a rest.

In my opinion this lack of quality beyond the 11 players is down to a dreadful January window, two so so loans and no quality to back up players like Ransay, Jones, Small, Campbell and Godden.

    This is on the Board.

If we go up great but either way whatever league were in the owners need to spend, simples!

Bit of a deflating performance really, they were so much stronger than us and looked worthy of going up. Squad depth is a concern we’ve had a good run of a settled side I think we got a little exposed today hopefully a couple of weeks to get ourselves back to what we’ve done do well lately.

Today was like finding a packet of gingernuts, get euphoric at the thought of that crunchy deliciousness, to open the packet to find them riddled with mould.

Our captain did not show up today at all. Where was the leadership and battling? He shrank.
TC head wasn't in this at all, occasion got to him and he gave up early. he's a young lad, hopefully he'll learn.
I hope Jones hasn't fucked himself by playing, was clearly unfit.

This was always going to be the Wrexham show and it was a circus , just a shame we didn't buy tickets for it.  The best team won.

Let's put this to bed and make sure we get Small , Jones and Berry fit for the play offs which is the most important thing.

Don't care if it's Wycombe or Stockport home or away first legs just lets have the fittest strongest first team available and sadly that doesn't include the likes of Watson or Anderson.

Let them play against Burton by all means and maybe rest a couple more .

I really hope we don't play Reading in the Play Off semi. Our record against them away from home is dismal.

As for today, never looked like we believed we could win and quite frankly we were awful. Too many senior players were miles off it. Lloyd Jones was limping heavily when he went off, Watson yet again can't last a whole game. Squad is getting stretched now.

What's the danger that both Wycombe and Stockport will decide to play for the draw to secure that home second leg? Or will they both go for the win in hopes of avoiding a particular team in the semi final?

Nah we'll have Stockport or Wycombe in the Semis - We need them both to draw on the last day, whilst we need to win 7-0 to get 3rd now

Never mind, promotion is still on and we can ensure our key players are fit and fresh.

Sam Smith is a bit of a bellend, but he's a really good League One striker.

These players always are when they play for the opposition but Smith was strong and looked a championship player today along with Rathbone and the evergreen Matty James with his 300 odd appearances at a higher level. Wrexham have 7 strikers and Paul Mullins is now rated at 7th and can't get in the 18 !
Weirdly I didn't notice Dobson today I must've deleted him from my vision !

The best team won and the usual fans who get too high when we win will now pile on but I felt negative at KO as it just felt we were extras today and we may have lost anyway but Berry and Small were big misses.

We move on and as one dream dies the play off dream needs to emerge.
  • Agree let's rest players next week as we need our best starting 11 for play offs. We can beat those teams now the £££ are up.

Just shows how far off this team is from the championship….. would go straight back down

Crazy how much the table can change in one game. Looked so good after Wycombe and now looks like a 5th place finish and an away leg second in the playoffs is a real possibility.

We need Small and Berry available for the playoffs. Basically our best XI can compete but we have no depth at all.

Not our day. Move on to Burton, need a win to lift the team as we go into the playoffs. Hopefully the feeling of losing and seeing them go up is a reminder we need to be bette, NJ will make sure they are.

I don't think we can unless Wycombe and Stockport draw and we win by at least 5 goals against Burton.

I'm not buying into the 'whole rising against the odds' narrative here for Wrexham.  Spent loads of money and bought the best players, not exactly a surprise.
Got heading toward 500 games worth of Premier League experience in that little underdog side of theirs. It can be impressive that they've risen so quickly but call it what it is

Can’t claim we’re the second best team in the league and put in a performance like that in those circumstances. Just have to pray that Jones, Small and Berry are fit for the playoffs otherwise we’re in trouble.
If we play Wycombe we'll roll them over.  Hopefully the scenario takes us to Wembley then a one off anything can happen.
Heart says promotion, so does my head.
