What an ending to what may have been a frustrating evening. The Addicks played some great football in the first half
Charlton went into the lead when the Peterborough defender handled the ball in the area. It was harsh but given nonetheless and dispatched expertly by Matty Godden. Then to compound their troubles a lunging and reckless tackle on Thierry Small saw their defender given a red card. Charlton looked then to cruise to all three points but instead faced further frustration. Unfortunately, the lead didn’t last too long when, ten minutes after the Addicks went ahead, a penalty was awarded the other way and Peterborough brought it level.
Changes were made, with Alex Gilbert coming in to provide some creativity and Miles Leaburn and Chuks Aneke coming on to give us height at set pieces. Though the gamble made us less mobile up top, it did pay off. It was Macauley Gillesphey that popped up to head home the Alex Gilbert corner with barely four minutes left in normal time. Peterborough’s continual time wasting now working against them, the Addicks saw the win out to rise up to fifth, further cementing themselves in the all-important promotion places.
Blushes were spared at the Valley and a poor run of form against Peterborough was finally put to bed. The Addicks have come into great form and long may it continue!

Good sides dig out three points from tight games and find a way.We haven’t been able to do that for donkeys years.

5th place. 4 points off 4th with a game in hand. Just beat another bogey side. Things are looking up in SE7. This team just does not give up. I haven't enjoyed supporting Charlton this much for 5 years. UTA!44

Was watching whilst working - I'm very pleased with the result, but the scoreline flatters our opponent again.
We should have been 2 up by half time, Berry came especially close. We could have scored four or five tonight with a bit of smarter decision making from Small and Campbell, but they're getting in the right positions.3 -
9 ponts off second 👀34

26 points in the last 11 matches. Difficult to argue with that and no one can say that this side, regardless of the match situation do not give their all for 96 minutes or even more.26

9/10 times we win that comfortably.
Miles better than them. Well done Gillesphey.19 -
Looking at the table @Dazzler21 posted on the match thread Orient is a real 6 pointer we mustn't lose now.7

Fcking brilliant. Didn't think that was going to go in for us at the end. We absolutely battered them. On another day we would have 58

Talking about the rest of the season, the run of form as a whole rather than this particular match.
But one aspect I've always found interesting when comparing with 2018/19 is the run that we ended up going on in the second half of that particular season... the fact that we needed so many results to haul ourselves into 3rd, and would be difficult to replicate it, if we ever found ourselves in a similar position.
Based on 2019 where we are in 2025 having played seven games.
We've won five (we won three last time), we've drawn twice (we drew three games that season), and lost the once (replicated)
Long way to go, but we're on the right track, and as I mentioned before the Match Thread got closed, long way to go yet, still a lot more points to be won and dropped, but those last two away matches against Wrexham and Wycombe could be absolutely MAHUSIVE!!8 -

I also speak on behalf of Charlton and Posh fans when I say that ref was awful. Was utterly determined to be the star of the show.
Got all 3 big decisions wrong. Both weren't pens and it was never a red.17 -
Absolutely love the spirit this group has. Don't seem to give up ever. Go into the last 5 minutes of games thinking we could score now when I used to be terrified we would concede. NJ might be a lunatic but he's our lunatic and he's a bloody good manager19

There is something about this group I really can’t see them dropping off. Good teams score late goals when needed. The fitness levels are miles above previous squads.
can we get a petition up to force an NJ cam ? It would be hysterical10 -
HMS Piss the Play-Offs at the moment, but she may well be remained to HMS 2nd Place if she keeps this up.soapy_jones said:

Missed this whilst working away …. Never giving up feels like it’s significant !!0

We're digging out those results. Looking like a decent 'team' for once.0

Good 3 points to keep up the momentum and you couldn't fault our effort.
But when teams come to park the bus, we look clueless in being able to break them down.
We're all 100mph huff & puff, hasty long ball, little guile or composure.
Tonight in the final third, we just needed players to put their foot on the ball and look up.
But hey-ho, there you go ........it should have been a whitewash - but we got there in the end!

@seth plum are we still getting relegated?7

I thought Gilbert's corner delivery for Macca's goal was superb. It was like an Exocet missile , pinged across with pace and precision. W ehave lacked killer set piece deliveries so I am hoping his arrival in the team will bring more goals from the dead ball.29

I actually think the red was fine, wasn’t in control, over top of the ball and caught the man half way up his shin studs up. Both pens were very soft though.cafcnick1992 said:I also speak on behalf of Charlton and Posh fans when I say that ref was awful. Was utterly determined to be the star of the show.

Having seen replays of both incidents, I don't think either of those were penalties. Not much the Peterborough bloke could do about the handball and Ramsay barely touched him - the bloke was on his way down before he was in the area.
Made very hard work of it. Should have been 2/3 up by HT and then really huffed and puffed after the sending off (which was a definite red).
I do wonder whether Jones will mix it up a little at Birmingham. I think we will need a physical presence up front or we are likely to see very little of the ball and imo there were a few tired bodies out there tonight. Campbell was a notable one and Berry faded quite badly in the second half.
Pleased to see Gilbert get involved and make an impact straight away.
And as much as I still don't rate him, I am actually pleased for Gillesphey. Was a great header.
Really don't think Chuks and Leaburn works.15 -
Agree... As the game wound down I was fully in the opinion that we were entering a phase of the match where we could score and so steal the win, rather than hanging on or having the game end in a nothing match - Even if we lose again (which I imagine will happen), I fully expect us to bounce back with vengeance.fenaddick said:Absolutely love the spirit this group has. the header seemed to take an age to go in. glad it did though.11

One of the worst, if not the worst this season. He had a shocker.cafcnick1992 said:I also speak on behalf of Charlton and Posh fans when I say that ref was awful. Was utterly determined to be the star of the show.

Disagree on the handball pen, he had his arm across his midriff then flicked it down by his side as TC pulled the trigger. Deliberate as it could get.cafcnick1992 said:I also speak on behalf of Charlton and Posh fans when I say that ref was awful. Was utterly determined to be the star of the show.

Some real big 6-pointers coming up before the end of March.LenGlover said:Looking at the table @Dazzler21 posted on the match thread Orient is a real 6 pointer we mustn't lose now.
Away to Stockport & Orient
Home to Huddersfield & Barnsley.
Dare I say it.....any team on 40 points are now irrelevant to us.
